Cold Stone is good... I'm having frozen yogurt cravings lately though big time.
I love the self serve places and unfortunately found a gooood one right on the way home from the gym... LOL.

I cannot get past the smell of the Cold Stone stores. Seriously makes my gut wretch from the sugary smells. Many bakeries do the same. I would probably love some of the wares, but fortunately my gut tells me, "no way" even before I get through the door. The smell is so strong it feels like it clings to me after being in there for awhile.

How stupid is that?

Hi Julie!!! So good to see you! Can you believe that Violet will be a YEAR old on October 1??!! I got her a little party hat that I am hoping to put on her little head just long enough for a picture, and that's probably asking too much! LOL! She's a little doll, though. Very attached to me, however, and sometimes that isn't always a good thing when company comes calling! She's can just get a little loud sometimes!

How's your puppy? I sure was lucky with Violet. I really only had a couple of things she did that were bad. But, she was house-trained in just a couple weeks with very few accidents. No chewing on furniture. She's never touched one of my shoes. Big difference from Sophie! LOL! But, yes, it's still exhausting! So, as an experienced puppy/dog owner, when does it get easy??

No idea! Duncan never really got easy ... But he was my first baby (as the girls will say) so there's that.

Daisy is doing great ... very few accidents as long as I am paying attention ... she does take stuff though (shoes, stuffed animals of the girls', books) but comes when called, sits on command, and gives them back without much fight. She also stays around in the yard, and is pretty good on the leash without pulling. She is growing by leaps and bounds and is so amazing. I'm totally in love!!

I cannot believe Violet will be a year old! How is that possible?! I can't wait to see that photo in the party hat. We got a Drs. Foster & Smith catalog last week that had some dog in a pumpkin costume on the cover. The girls wanted to get one for Daisy ... ummm ... NO. But maybe some "antlers" at Christmastime!!

Power Training
Strength Program - Push/Pull
Weeks 4-6 (Workout 1 of 12)

1-Arm DB Snatch
3x27.5
3x30
2x35
3x30

Squats
6x105
4x110
3x120
2x125
8x95

DB Incline Bench
6x30's
6x30's
5x30's
3x30's
*couldn't even get 1 rep at 35 today

Split Jerk
6x50
4x55
3x60
2x65

Seated Russian Twist
10x35 lb plate
10x35 lb plate

Planks
60 secs
60 secs

So, I decided to keep on with the PT strength program for now. These next 3 weeks we move into 6,4,3,2 reps and I like that a lot. Feels good to be back in the gym. Back to eating in a bit of a deficit, so lifts were affected a bit --DB presses for sure, and didn't feel like I could push it much further on the squats -- but all in all, a good workout.

My gym asked me to become part of their Member Advisory Board. Not sure what it entails.....the first meeting is in a week or so. I sure hope it involves a gym discount!

Jane, how do you get the dumbbells set up for the incline press? I was doing them with 27.5's today, and it was all I could do to get them in position. I could lift them fine once I had them up, but going from a sitting position to reclined back with the DBs in place was hard. I can't imagine what I'll do when I get higher weights.

Am I missing some basic skill?

Put your feet on the little foot rests at the end of the bench and put the dumbbells on your knees. So, you've basically got the dumbells between your chest and your knees as you sit on the end of the bench. Then rock back using the momentum from your knees to get the DB's up.

x 2. I have to get a friend to spot me during my set up. I'd like to know a good way to set up for days I don't have anyone around to help ....

The incline benches at my gym don't have foot rest things. But the momentum in sitting back might do the trick. I'll give it a try during Wednesday's workout next week.

Hmm...that link isn't working for me; I get a Jpeg pic from star wars when I click it.

But I think I get the idea from your description. That sounds like it'll work. Thanks!

Way cool!!!! And I would definately negotiate a gym discount (if not a free membership, depending what they expect you to do as a member of the board!!)

NICE workout!!! Back to kicking some ass, I see!!

Hmm; I didn't consider that it was spam. Usually those are ads or something. There was another post by the same poster in another thread I started. Seemed like he or she was just foreign and not good with English. Perhaps I'm wrong. If so, I apologize for thinking you rude; although your response to me was a little curt too. I guess I'll move along as well.

Definitely a spammer in training!! In fact, I had reported him before Ginger even posted.

Ginger, what's even funnier is that when I saw his first post, his screenname made me go EXACTLY there, too! LOL!

I haven't checked yet, but he's probably banned by now.

Me hate spammers.

Thanks, Wendy! I do feel stronger, but my reps are really low on this portion of the strength program. Granted, my weights are higher than the last time I did this program, but still...I couldn't do these weights at higher reps.

As for the red ink today, I'm blaming a huge traffic jam. I went to Whole Foods today and on the way home I am stuck in traffic on the freeway for AN HOUR in bumper to bumper traffic. So, I cranked the Led Zeppelin and broke out the tortilla chips and homemade salsa from WF! LOL! Then, when I finally got home, threw down a protein shake and my workout supps and hit the gym! So, it must have been my unintentional tortilla load!

jane, so funny about the led zeppelin plus chips and salsa. we must have been in a parallel universe time warp synchronicity sort of a thing. yesterday, we had some pace group drama for the 20 mile run, so I ended up doing the 3 extra miles on my own because I really didn't feel like participating. so it was me, led zeppelin, ac/dc and aerosmith just rockin' it out on the pavement. It was such a welcome escape!!! my tortilla load came later when ed and I went to tijuana flats for my favorite post long run burrito and chips and salsa.

Yeah, it was like a little Mexican party in my car sans the margarita!

By the way, Wendy, I wonder if the Boston group I saw yesterday at Starbucks was doing their long run yesterday, too?
