LOL @ LCP... they used to serve drinks & pizza right out in the middle of their fitness floor on Friday nights. Try working out with the smell of beer & wings drifting onto your elliptical... Love that place!!!! (explains why I worked there for a whole long 29 days before quitting about 5 years ago)

I wasn't looking forward to my last depletion workout of the week tonight, but my Chuck's were just delivered!!! I can't wait to try them out. Damn the machines....I'm doing REAL lifting tonight!

Second depletion workout of the week is in the books. Neither of them were as intense as I should have made them. My plan is to make Friday's tension workout a bit more than usual -- more sets, but less weight to ensure I am fully depleted prior to my carb load Friday PM. Also, will be taking in a bit less carbs this load than usual. I have been pushing the load to the upper limits and this time I'm going to target more of the mid-range. Then, see what Sunday's Power workout is like before I decide about next week.

Woo hoo! It's Friday and we all know what that means.....carb load! Once I hit Friday, I feel like I have made thru another week (even though my cycles end on Monday). Once I make it thru Tues, Weds, and Thurs, it's all smooth sailing! On to week 8! Will be back with my tension workout stats later tonight.

Fridays are doubly good for you then I am sure you will rock that workout tonight.

Speaking of Friday's we watched the season finale of Curb a few nights ago and I just died when Larry walked around the little town with his "real" parents in the T.G.I.F shirt and fanny pack. I totally want that shirt!

LOL! Hysterical....just love him. The new season starts September 20, by the way.

ETA: I just realized that you are a season behind....that was the finale of season 5 and season 7 starts on September 20. A LOT happens in season 6 and you'll be really lost if you start watching season 7 before you watch season 6!

Yes, yes; you have to watch season 6 first! They are all on DVD, so you can get it and see them before the new season starts.

Unfortunately, I don't have a TV, so I won't be able to watch the new season until it is out on DVD which could be a year . Don't plot spoil for me, girls! (Although I already know the Seinfeld cast is reassembling for some of this season.)

UD2 Tension Workout - Week 7

I did as I was supposed to do today and didn't push anything, since the purpose of this workout is to just deplete any remaining glycogen. I really want to save myself for my power workout on Sunday. I think last week I may have went to hard on my Friday workout and I didn't want to do that again.

Lifted in my new Chuck's for the first time tonight...loved it!

Squat
7x95
6x100

Front Squat
6x65
6x75

Deadlift
6x115
6x125

Romanian Deadlift
6x125
7x115

Bench Press
6x85
9x65

BO Row with BB
6x85
8x85

DB Incline Bench Press
7x27.5's
7x27.5's

Cable Row
7x93.5
6x93.5

DB O/H Shoulder Press
7x25's

Barbell O/H Shoulder Press
5x50
7x45

Swiss Ball Crunch
2 sets of 15

I just pounded down a huge PWO shake with 1 1/2 bananas in it and then scarfed down a giant bagel. Ugh. Gonna go take Violet for a walk and then have a pasta dinner with bread. That should get my carb load off to a stellar start. See you in about 650 carbs.....

I don't know if you have a SO but, if you do, he must be miserable until the carb loading days come. Happy weekend!

Jane, I just realized from reading some of your earlier log entries that Violet is still pretty much a puppy! I just found the pics you posted of her before you even brought her home. For some reason I had thought you have had her for years. (I have never had dogs, so I couldn't tell by her pics that she is young until I realized you just got her last year.) She must have recently had her birthday?

Depends how far back you go to know which pictures you are seeing!.....first I had Sophie. She was killed by another dog when she was only 4 months old. I was devastated. Sophie was my first dog and I loved her so much! I contacted my breeders and told them what happened and to let me know if Sophie's parents ever bred again (this had been their first litter). I didn't know if I'd ever be ready to another pup again, but wanted to know just case. Well, they bred again and Sophie's sister, Violet, was born! They are as different as night and day (except they look identical!), but now I love Violet to pieces! She'll be a year on October 1.

August 2
UD2 Week 7 Power Workout (after the carb load)

Carb load went well. No need to have been concerned about strength levels going south. All lifts were at or above previous attempts -- either in weight or in volume. So, hopefully, this indicates no loss of LBM. This means I will finish out the 8 weeks of UD2 before I break.

Squat
5x95
4x115
5x115
4x115

Front Squat
5x65
5x70
5x75

**Really focused on form for all squat sets. Did a bunch of warm-up sets, not noted here. Fully ATG on all sets.

Deadlift
4x135
4x140
2x145
*I think that's PR for reps, but I lost my workout worksheet (DAMN!). I'll go back thru my log to see if it is and change it if it's now. At any rate, deads much better than last week.

Romanian Deadlift
2x175
5x155
2x165
6x135
*That 175 was a total mistake....loaded the bar wrong, but managed to crank out 2 for a new weight PR.

Flat Bench Press
4x75
4x75
4x75
10x65
*volume PR and MUCH better than last week. As pressing numbers are the first to go for me, this was highly motivating.

B/O Row with BB
4x100
6x95
6x95

Incline DB Bench Press
1x35's
5x30's
4x30's
4x30's
*still trying the 35's each power workout. Again, managed one. Need to get some add-on plates.

Assisted Chins
1 unassisted
2x16 lb assistance
4x28 lb assistance

4x28 lb assistance

Cable Row
4x106
4x106

O/H Press with DB's
4x27.5's
3x27.5's

U/H Grip Lat Pulldown
3x118.5
4x112.5
6x106

BB O/H Press
4x55
6x50
8x45
*much better than last week...again, good to see the pressing numbers not suffering

Plank - 2 minutes

Gym obervations today:
  • Guy came in with a CD PLAYER belted to his waist. I wanted to take him aside and say "hey, dude, there's this new invention I need to talk to you about....."
  • Just as the Black Keys came on my ipod, a guy walked into the weight room with a Black Keys tee -- freakay!

Great workout Jane! What's odd is that I went from portable cassette player directly to iPod. I think at first it was money... the cassette player still worked and everyone I knew with a CD player talked about how badly they skipped at times.

Your bench is really coming along nicely!

LOL about the CD player - I see them every once in a while, and I just wonder... I mean - you can get a cheapo mp3 now for around $20, right?

Well, today should be the start of Week 8 of UD2. It's recommended to do 6-8 cycles and then break. I thought I could push it the full 8 weeks, but my body is telling me otherwise. Having some weird water fluctuations the last 2 days and I just felt like I needed to bring things up to maintenance and take my break. So, the tentative plan is:

-- maintenance for 2 weeks; workouts will be strength focused
-- following 2 weeks will be cutting via lower carb with one moderate carb load a week; workouts will be focused on maintaining LBM; no lifting at max levels
-- vacation from Sept 3 - 9
-- Rest of September and beyond I'll be back to UD2, I think...

thanks, girls....I hope I've got a handle on it.

My vacation is sort of throwing a monkey wrench into all of this, but I desperately need to get away from all the stress (work, mom, etc), so I need this vacation!

I've also got some very aggressive and specific goals that I haven't publicly laid out yet, and am still working towards those. And, to that end, I really need to be dialed in on my diet and workouts if I am going to meet them.

I'm actually looking forward to a full-body strength workout tonight. I am sneaking in a chalk ball in a custom made bag and hoping to get away with it. Really want to test out my 1RM on deads.

Remember, it's just a week or two. Keep your perspective. Over the course of a season, a year, a decade, it's what you do with the rest of the time that matters. You are so dedicated... your hard work shows on your body and in your determination to succeed. A week won't undo ANY of that.

Admiringly,

The Wookie

Oh, felt sooo good to do a REAL workout on a Tuesday!

Squat
3x100
2x105
1x110
3x105
2x110
1x115

Quarter Squat
2x165
2x165
2x165

Squat
6x100
10x85

Deadlift
3x135
2x145
1x155
3x135
2x150
1x160

Whew, those last few sets of deads did me in.....cut the rack pulls out tonight. Still, a good workout! Felt strong. Also had a really nice talk with one of the only guys at the gym whose training opinion I value. Good advice and good stuff.

Oh, and I snuck in my new chalk ball and bag and it was a wonderful thing.

Great job on the dead lifts.
