I hear you on the wine. I am contemplating some Miller 64's to soothe my sore throat and headache. Not sure if it is a good idea, but definitely thinkinig hard about it.
Sorry you spent the day in the ER and I hope you get back to 100% real soon. I planted tons of flowers today and I thought of you.

I won't be posting in the challenge update. There are a few people who seem to be overly critical of my progress and/or results, and it's been a bit unnerving, to tell you the truth. It's unwarranted and I feel like I need to just keep things to myself for a while. I know the path I am on. I know what my end goals are. And, I know that I am on target to get there. That's good enough for me.

I took my pics and did my stats this morning, and I am very pleased with my progress this month. I worked really hard, so I'm glad to see it's paid off.

I'll continue with my own monthly stats updates, and will post progress updates as I see fit.

I hate to bow out of the challenge, especially since I'm the coordinator, but I won't slack on my duties! I'll follow everyone through to the end, and be cheering you all as well.

I'm not ruling out any future challenges, but right now I need to just keep my stuff to myself.

hi jane. I totally understand your reluctance to continue posting pics. really looking forward to seeing the results of all of your hard work at the arnold next year, maybe even sooner if the stars align and the private jets start flowing. you look maahvelous dahling, and those that can't see it are just jealous of your lethal combo of fabulous genetics and relentless work ethic.

You've got that twisted.

I am one of the people who privately voiced concerned to Jane because I am concerned about her. Has nothing to do with jealously. Has to do with her stated goals and path. It's too bad that you chose the catty route for comment instead of one of positivity.

P.S. Jane: I've said my piece. I won't carry this any further in your log.

Thanks for your support, as always, Wendy! And, we'll make it happen, private jets or not!

Jane, I'm sorry to see you drop out of the challenge. I do understand that you have to do what works for you and will continue watching your log to see how everything is going for you.

Jane I am sorry to see that you are bowing out of the challenge last minute like this. I think your progress is one of the more "interesting" ones since you are now in a lower bf% than where most people trend. This area of recomp gets really tricky and therefor is more interesting to read about. It is likely that you will make mistakes on your first and subsequent trips to the lower bf%. I think we all do as it becomes a game of recomp instead of just fat loss. It also (unfortunately) draws a lot of critisisms from folks. Since your mind not as functional (it is harder a lower bf to hang on to those rational thoughts) it plays too much on the emotions. This mirrors my own (crazy) path somewhat, so I was following along with much interest actually. Because I am also doing a similar thing, albeit somewhat less "warp speed this time... I totally get what you are feeling too. (Note how I dropped out of the challenge awhile back after my first deep drop - a lot of the same reaons....)

But I am reading something here that is even more interesting now.... Did Wendy mention that you are planning on showing this year? Figure perhaps? Just drawing conclusions and making leaps but hoping you respond.

awe tracey, just trying to support a friend by making a silly joke, as is my tendency when I am trying to make someone laugh. so sorry you took it as catty. not meant that way at all.

jane, so sorry for my arnold comment, lol. didn't mean to start a rumor that you are deciding to do a show. while you would certainly kick major ass in any figure competition that you decided to train for, I know that our goal at the arnold has more to do with seeing the sites, indulging in some power-shopping, and eating some good food. some of these goals just might be counter-productive to a show goal!

Well, I am ready for Hypertrophy! Need to cut WSFL short by a week because I am where I need to be (yeah!), so here's my first Hypertrophy workout:

May 31, 2009
NROL Hypertrophy IA
Workout 1 of 24

Superset with full rest (90 secs)
DB Incline Bench Press
5x25's
5x27.5's
5x30's
5x30's
5x30's

Cable Seated Row
5x87.5
5x87.5
5x87.5
5x87.5
5x87.5

*****
Superset with full rest (90 secs)
DB Shoulder Press
5x20's
5x22.5.'s
5x22.5's
5x20's
5x20's

Wide Grip Lat Pulldown
5x75
5x87.5
5x81
5x81
5x81

*****
Superset with full rest (90 secs)
Barbell Close-grip Bench Press
5x45
5x55
5x60
5x60
5x60
*First time ever doing these with close grip and it felt really strange. I was afraid to go any heavier because the movement felt to different. Need to feel my way through this one over time.

High Pull
5x55
5x55
5x60
5x55
5x45
*You'd think with my oly training that I could go heavier on these, but my form felt off today, so I backed down to the oly bar only on the last set. I think I'll be in trouble the next time the A workout comes around because I need to do 15 rep sets of these.

*****
Swiss Ball Crunch
3x15xbw with straight arm, feet on bench, with 8 lb DB overhead

Then, 20 minutes of foam rolling, dynamic and static stretching.

I am sorry you backed out of the challenge. I almost did the same, but its my first and I want to finish it through. I am sorry you were in the ER. Take care of yourself okay??? Good luck with Hypertrophy. I plan on doing that plan once I finish out the OPT workouts.

hey jane, awesome workout. I hate those days when form is off--it is amazing how important technique is, I had no idea about this until I trained with harvey.

hey caitedid4, terrific job on the challenge this month. you look strong and fit in your pics. interestingly, you and jane are in similar places, both in terms of plan goals, and height/weight.

frame size is one of those fascinating things to me--at 5' 6.5, I would look very very thin at 130, but you and jane both look incredible. numbers are just one piece of data, and I continue to be amazed at how different bodies look even though their heights/weights are similar. it all goes back to building YOUR best body, and their are as many routes to that body as there are people who are pursuing those bodies!!

Hey Jane, you need to do what is best for you. Take care of yourself.

Great start to hypertrophy! I was just telling my bro over the weekend I hope to get to a point this summer where I feel am a ready to build some muscle this fall/winter.

Yeah, I debated on whether or not to wait until Fall, but we'll see. I may find that after this Hypertrophy program I might want to rotate back into strength. We'll see. But, at any rate, it feels good to finally be at the point to at least start it!

You sure nailed it on the form. I think that many would be surprised if they really concentrated on proper form and took the time to perfect it before upping the weight. Truly a real eye-opener. If the form in my gym is any indication of the general population, then I'd say that MOST do not use proper form.

And, I think you nailed it on frame size, too. I have a very tiny frame, very small-boned, so my ideal weight is lower than someone with a bigger build/frame/etc.

Frame size IS key here. I've met Jane and she is definitely small framed and she is not unhealthy, at all. Quite the contrary.
That is why those damn charts make no sense. They don't take in to account the frame sizes. We are all built differently and a chart can't take all of the variables into consideration.

I'll be anxious to eventually see your progress, Jane. I know how devoted and committed you are to this. I also know you are making smart decisions and would never put yourself in an unhealthy category.

I thik lean women can be misinterpreted out of genuine concern, by others. As long as you are balanced, happy and healthy, in good relationships with others, you justa gotta keep your head high and go for your goals, graciously

What Jedi said: if you still feel healthy & strong, there's no reason to not want to 'reach for the stars' when it comes to getting as lean as you can.

Sorry to see you go out of the challenge for the reasons Karla posted.
And sorry again to have to go to ER with your mom & having to be there w/o decent food.

This is me totaly. This is why I hesitate at times to post weight and height. Currently, 5' 7" 124lbs and not particularly lean. I don't start getting lean till I hit 120. I would love to have a six pack, but I'm not willing to diet that low.

Anyway, Jane, I'm impressed with your dedication and I follow your journal. Good luck on any goals you choose.

3sweeties, I met a woman at running camp with your stats, she might have been 127, and her body fat was high for a competitive runner. They told her she was 5-7 pounds from optimal running weight. The method was underwater weighing in a laboratory, so a decent approximation for sure. I saw her in a bathing suit and she was definitely not too thin. But she has a classic runners build- very lithe, with small bones. But she definitely had a bit of body fat in the abdominal area.
Of course I am the queen of running with plenty of bodyfat! Will get after it in the off season.

I will be sorry to not see you finish the challenge however I certainly understand why you'd want to keep things more private.

I've admired your dedication and your results. Sorry that some people have been critical. I think this is a classic example of where it's important to look at the forest and not the trees.

I hope both you and your mom will be feeling better soon.

I LOVE this talk of dieting down and being too low weight with higher amounts of bodyfat. That is EXACTLY what happened to me everytime I dieted down. I would have to get under 115lbs in order for belly fat to go away. (I too am small framed.) And that is EXACTLY why I am not doing that way anymore and why I am focusing on adding lean mass instead of just losing fat. It is a different look but I am learning to love it too.

Jane... This is good stuff you bring out despite anything bad that you hear. You have made "concerned" comments to folks as well so I know that you can understand where people are coming from. It mostly isn't jealously or mean. It really is just not understanding the other person's perspective and special conditions. While it is somewhat painful on one level, I am very happy to see you come to this place. It is a very cool and happy place to be actually. I look forward to seeing how you grow or shrink or whatever from here.

I def. hear you all on Frame Size. Its much harder to gain muscle with a tiny frame if your Body Fat is too high, at least its less noticeable. Jane, I think that Hypertrophy is a great step to aim towards. I absolutely am looking forward to the NROL workouts in 2wks. Lets kick some butt this summer!

Yes, you do have a small frame, and apparently let your hair grow in too.

LMAO. At first I was like , huh? And then realized you were talking about your little furbaby

Alas, I'm having a small frame too. If Santa Claus existed, I'd ask him for bigger bones as it would make it easier to be crazy-ass strong as well as to put on muscles.
Actually strength can be independent of bone-size but does it occur to you sometimes that the weights you lift are too heavy for the bone structure you're having?
(Nearly) every single strong(wo)man I know has crazy 'big bones' . Can we be small-framed crazy ass strong too?
Karla is!

So how does one determine if they are small framed/big framed? I remember the wrist circumference test...but now its got me wondering what I am. Hmmm.

That is a serious leg workout Jane! I remember doing deadlifts with BSS and shelc's in FLII I think? and it was a killer combo.

Bree, I'm not sure how scientific this is, but here are some guidelines. And, for reference, I am 5'7" and my wrist is 5.5".

If your height is under 5 feet 2 inches, then a small body size will have a wrist measurement of less than 5.5 inches; a medium body size will have a wrist measurement between 5.5 and 5.75 inches; a large body size will have a wrist measurement over 5.75 inches. For women whose height is 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 5 inches, then a small body frame will have a wrist measurement of less than 6 inches; a medium body size will have a wrist measurement between 6 and 6.25 inches; a large body size will have a wrist measurement over 6.25 inches. For women whose height is over 5 feet 5 inches, then a small body frame will have a wrist size of less than 6.25 inches; a medium body frame will have a wrist size between 6.25 and 6.5 inches; a large body frame will have a wrist measurement over 6.5 inches.
