Weight is up but waist is down, for whatever reason.
well, I always like that combination most of all. But I don't expect it to happen so often (I don't actually take the measurements needed to know this)
Now, I want to read beer reports of you again! Except if the lack of those is the reason for the measurements to go in the right direction.
Ommegang's Rouge - on tap - I've always felt that Sour Flemish Reds are an acquired taste, and this present example is no exception. Pours a hazy dark brown with ruby highlights, with a proper head that quickly reduces to a light froth at the top of the beer. The sourness definitely comes through in the nose, but this is a musty acidity indeed. Like the nose, the taste is unflinchingly sour, but rounded with dark cherry notes in the mid-palate. Mouthfeel is somewhat light, which suits this beer well, allowing it to be more refreshing than it otherwise would be. It reminds me a lot of Duchesse du Bourgogne, but that seems a somewhat darker hued, less tart ale than Ommegang's offering. While this, (or any sour Flemish red for that matter) should not be your first beer of the night, I'd suggest having it after the palate's warmed up a bit first. (This is particularly true, if, like me, you would eat salt and vinegar chips until you absolutely had to drink something to cut through the sourness.)

tom, I had a great beer at a food/wine/beer festival saturday. kona brewing company, they have an amazing porter that has kona coffee in it. two of my favorite things!!! it was the same feeling I had when I discovered choc-0-bloc, a tawny port steeped in dark chocolate. what do the beer geeks say about the kona porter?

I've heard of Kona but have never had any of their products. I'm guessing you mean their Pipeline Porter which is well-received in the reviews I've read. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
