I couldn't imagine adding weights to the lateral rolls.

Paula: I couldn't imagine adding weight to them either. Those buggers are tough as it is... But I have to say they were ever so slightly easier last time I did them. Thankfully it's an A-B-A week so I'll only have to contend with them once this week.
Egham: maybe it's system overload in that there's just too many things going on with the body that it can only react to so much. I find I can never remember what grip I used on the mixed grip lat pulldowns and stuff like that. Hopefully this is a sign that the workout's working.
I've got one more FL1 workout and then I'm going to be going straight into FL-II. I decided not to take a week off since I'm participating in the challenge.
I figure I'm going to visit my family at the end of the month. I'll just take a 5 day break then.

I'll be interested to see your results... It's funny, if one thing NROL's taught me it's the value of rest. Before I'd NEVER take time off from working out, but now, I think I can see that it's a good idea to do so.
Thanks Lance, the Bulgarians and the lateral rolls may me have redo Fat Loss I again, so I can be sure I can do them well. Both are making progress, but I'm not sure I will be as proficient as I'd like to be with them (especially since FLII combines the bulgarians with an overhead press).
Ugh!!! I HATED the BSS w/ OHP. That is one exercise I was not able to nail by the end of the program. I kept having to stop every few reps to catch my breath and let the burn subside a bit before I could do a few more, stop, then a few more, etc.
But, you know what? Go after it, man!!!

Yup - I expect that the level of nastiness will be the same or exceed that of when I first started the BSS to begin with. That's why I want to be as prepared as I can be for them. Thanks for the encouragement.
I actually screwed the order of these up - I did the hip extensions with the lunges and the push presses with the crunches. Still was tired as heck when I was done though, so I don't think it hurt much.
While I was working out a woman I know came up to me and said she'd seen me in the cafeteria last week and had to look twice to see that it was me. I suppose I've changed enough to make it difficult to tell...

Well, it's certainly obvious in your photos. Good for you!!!

UM yeah. Not looking forward to BSS with overhead presses.

When I first joined this board not too long ago, it was because I saw that Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove post here, and that there were quite a few people who were doing NROL. It's cool to see how other people are doing the workouts and seeing their progress, just as it's nice to have people comment on the workouts I do.
In the process of reading others' training logs, I've come across what look like equally good programs/gear - like Ballantyne's TT workouts or the TRX system. Heck I just ordered Enamait's Never Gymless book because I've been looking for something bodyweight oriented with a different approach, and it looks like Enamait's fits the bill. It's almost like being a kid in a candy store, it gets addictive at times. Heck even doing Fat Loss I I'm learning how to do exercises I'd never think I'd be able to do (BSS, Lateral Rolls, Walking Lunges etc). I like the idea of progression too... I know that once I finish Fat Loss I I can "graduate" to Fat Loss II, or something else entirely. This is a good thing - a kind of "let's see what I can do today" kind of feeling.

Good job stingo! I inadvertently mess up the order of things sometimes, and I don't think it hurt my progress at all.

That's a VERY good sign that you're succeeding. Good job and....keep on truckin'!

Interesting you should talk about this... my boyfriend and I were talking about this kind of last night. I said something about being really nervous about FL-II. And he replied "Remember when you started the first program?? You were like 'OMG I've got to get to the top of the hill." then you got there and you looked towards the next hill which was a little bigger and you sat there and wondered how you were gonna get up the next hill. But you did it and then there was the next hill and it was even bigger. You are doing it. Don't worry and Just do the next hill."
I'm very lucky I have such a good encourager

Yup - every little bit helps. I remember being told a story of an athlete who won a very difficult race. He'd said the challenge wasn't finishing so much as getting started.

Hey, I ordered the Never Gymless book too! I'm really excited to do some of his workouts. If I can be 1/100th as strong and badass as that guy I will be a happy gal. I totally agree with you about this site really opening up new horizons. I found this place the same way you did when I was starting NROL. Since then I have done various TT and Waterbury programs while also playing with Kettlebells and TRX. Variety keeps things interesting as far as I'm concerned.
Plus, the people on this board RULE! They are some of the nicest people ever.
What'd you think of the kettlebells? That's another thing I wanted to try...
I love my kettlebells. I have a few at home and I use them frequently in my backyard workouts. I usually only go to the gym 2-3 times a week due to my work/travel schedule - so my remaining workouts are done at home. For my needs, KBs are perfect. You can shove them into the corner and they don't take up much space, plus you can do some fun stuff with them. Lots of people say you can do the same stuff with a dumbbell and maybe that's true, but I like doing swings, cleans and snatches with a KB rather than a dumbbell.
Hill class today - was a good ride. I think our regular instructor forgot that the Tour de France is on now. We would usually do whatever they did in the race that day, except in miniature to fit a 55 minute class.
I agree with you on your thoughts regarding this forum. I thought I was so out of place when I first started posting. Everyone seemed so knowledgeable and into so many different routines and equipment and ways of doing things. I was overwhelmed. But, slowly I've been learning things of my own, trying new things, and like Jill said, truly enjoying all the friendships and camaraderie...it's an amazing community. I'm glad you've joined us, too!

Thanks Victoria - In a sense it levels the playing field... You can see someone report big numbers and feel happy for them and yet at the same time you don't feel inferior because deep down you feel that with enough time you too can do it. So "I can't do that..." becomes "I can't do that... yet..."
Speaking of which... when doing the quad stretch after spinning class, I was standing on my left leg and holding the right to do the stretch. It took me a few seconds to realize I wasn't holding on to the bike. I'd always had to hold on because I'd topple off my balance, but this time was different. A small thing perhaps but a really really big one to me. (Of course in trying it with my better leg, the right, I was too self conscious and did topple once, but I stayed up after that.)
I'm quite pleased with this workout for the most part. Gains in every exercise, and a great start on the split squats, but the 2nd set was a disaster. I have to be sure to use proper form and get down as far as I need to, particularly with the left leg. Also, I was able to remember which grip I used from set to set with the pulldown... yes, little victories I know. And though it's not on here, the warmup routine is actually starting to feel like a warmup routine now, even the t-pushups and walking lunges. So yeah definitely much to be happy about.
Nice workout Stingo! Bulgarians really do help to isolate each leg -- I know-- I have the same trouble when I go down with my right leg.
Not that y'all have to know this, but I can really feel it at the bottom of the gluteals/top of the hamstrings... To the point where when I just get started walking I have to hobble like an old man (preferably a dirty one because they have more fun...)
Did a condensed Tour de France ride - rolling hills, with an uphill finish - today. Was fun. It seems like the substitute is getting comfortable with the class and we're getting comfortable with him.

Got Never Gymless yesterday and started reading it. Good information, clearly presented. I got up to the pulling exercises, but had to go to bed. Looks like it will be a good alternative to NROL, for when I'm not around the gym or just to change things up.
