Hi Julie - yes it was a grand time indeed. Thanks for the well wishes.

Right now we're between books (both of my choosing). We've just finished Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte) and we are about to start The Eyre Affair (Jasper Fforde). The latter is Fforde's first book and quite an inventive and audacious one at that. If you're into books, I'd imagine you'd enjoy it, but with the caveat you read Jane Eyre immediately prior. Once we've finished the Fforde, we'll be reading (again, at my request) A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens). After YEARS of watching various and sundry versions on the silver screen, I felt it was time to actually read it.

What are you reading now?

Hmmm ... I've never read Jane Eyre ... might have to add that to our list ... we just finished reading "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls ... if you haven't read it, it was amazing. We are taking December off from reading (and are going out to dinner instead) and haven't picked yet for January ... the woman whose turn it is to pick usually picks something interesting ... I'll let you know when she picks.

Julie, I agree, The Glass Castle was an amazing book! And, hard to believe it's true, too! Amazing!

Default NROL's Hypertrophy I, Workout B8

All exercises 5x5, 90 seconds rest except for abdominals which are 3x15, 60 seconds rest

A1 Squats 75

B1 Deadlifts w/Shrug 75

C1 Bulgarian Split Squats 20, 20, 20, 25, 25
C2 Step-Up 20, 20, 20, 25, 25

D1 Reverse Crunch (w/6 lb Medicine Ball between Knees)

Squats and Deadlifts - I was initially daunted by the weights, which proved to be psychological, as once I started lifting I was ok. Grip issues are still there, and I will watch form more closely too, but on the whole these went surprisingly well.

Bulgarian split squat - For the first time since I tried to do these, the left leg did as well in terms of balance as the right. The funny part is, there's a cable machine that I'd hold onto to help my balance to put my right foot on the bench. Well, today, I was able to get into position WITHOUT holding on to anything, and I felt much more balanced as a result. I think the heavier weights holding me down helped, but it was more the setup. Also too, I felt quite strong doing them this time. Hopefully this will continue for when I do the 3x15 workout later this week.

Step-ups - Still need to work on truly proper form, but these went well too.

Reverse Crunch - with 6lb Medicine Ball between my knees. Something different and a bit different challenge in this exercise. I might use the 12lb one next time to see if I can do it.

Overall - I'm nearly ecstatic with this workout... Squats and Deadlifts felt great, and the bulgarian split squat is one step closer to becoming MY bitch for a change. Step-ups and reverse crunches were just fine too, if a bit anticlimactic after the bigger lifts.

Yup where the snow covers the trees so it makes it all white. Quite the winter wonderland to be sure. Had I thought to have a camera (and I wasn't close to being late for work), I'd've snapped a few shots.

Jeesh...snow already! I'm not looking forward to winter or snow at all. We haven't had any snow yet this year....and I'm keeping fingers crossed that we won't get any until Christmas Eve.

Yeah snow! We had just a dusting this morning -- just teasing me... I love winter.

Workouts are looking good. I always take it as a good sign when my grip and/or balance issues are holding me back. Progress on that stuff comes quick.

Thanks everyone. As a side note, I went to the local Dick's Sporting Goods to get a pair of goggles as I'm going to give swimming a go at the local Y tomorrow. (The friend who I convinced to do NROL is an avid swimmer, so turnabout's fair play.) While there, I decided to pick up some workout clothes, as I'd not bought any in quite a while. Ended up with Russell red short sleeve shirt and black shorts (our "team" spinning colors for the spinning class I attend at work) for the 2 hour Black Friday ride. The upshot is that they were Large, and I fit into them. YAY! (Not to mention they were only $8 each...)

Awesome. I think that also indicates your flexibility is improving, as well as balance.

Yay, indeed! Feels good to put on that smaller size, doesn't it?
