Yes, I thought it a bit odd too, but figuring if you can curry rice or couscous, why not steel cut oats? (I'd not try it with rolled oats though.) I really like the flavor and it certainly adds flavor without adding many calories.

NROL Fat Loss III, Workout B1
60 seconds rest between giant sets, no rest between exercises
Front Squat 4x12@90
Under Lat Pulldown 1x12@25, 2x12@30, 1x12@35
Step Up (Bench) 4x12@20
DB Push Press 4x12@35
Squat 2 x20@90
Wide Grip Lat Pulldown 2 x20@80
Step Up (Step) 2x20@24
DB Shoulder Press 2x20@30
Swiss Ball Crunch (feet on bosu ball) 2x10
Notes:
I went deliberately lighter on this workout so as to better spread out the loads between the sets. Some, like the DB Push Press could definitely be increased. Others, like the Step Ups provded adequate challenge as they are. A learning process to be sure, but this workout wasn't as bad as A1, partly because of better load management but also I think perhaps my body is starting to be more resilient to such stress.

Like Stingo said, oats are a grain. It's easier to think of the steel cut ones as a grain. But here's a pretty good recipe. From Johnka (John Williams)...
Shakshuka
You won’t find many Levantines eating a sugary bowl of cereal for breakfast. Shakshuka, a seasoned mixture of tomatoes and eggs, is a common breakfast in the Eastern Mediterranean. Here is a version with the added goodness of oats.
Ingredients:
1/3 cup steel-cut oats
2 large tomatoes, chopped
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 large egg, whole
¾ cup raw egg whites
salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
Bring the oats, tomatoes, and tomato paste to a boil in 2 cups of water. Cover and reduce heat to a simmer for 25 minutes.
Sauté the onion and garlic in a skillet coated with cooking spray and add these to the pot when the oats have finished cooking. The consistency should be thick, but a little soupy. More water may need to be added at this point to achieve the desired consistency.
Spread the whole egg and egg whites over the surface, stirring gently to break the yolk. Cover and simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve it up.

Spinning
I have no idea where it came from, but apparently I had the energy and stamina to take spinning class after the above strength workout. Still, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Feeling quite happy right now because of this, and because someone said it looked like I was losing weight again. So a good day on the workout front.

Woke up feeling a bit stiff today, but otherwise pretty ok. Though I know I'm not out of the woods yet, as it's usually the day after the day after a tough workout that DOMS resurfaces.

The workouts are looking good. If you can do spinning afterwards, it's time to pack on more weight. LOL
Nice going, my friend.

I was thinking the same thing. But I always use the first workout to find out what weights I'd need to be using. I'm finding that this is especially important in FL3. Still, I felt better spinning yesterday than I have in a while - even when I strength trained the day before. (Plus I had a really good night's sleep on Monday night so I'm sure that helped.) Regardless, I think it was one of those workouts where you can do anything.

Spinning
Cool class today - open road, but anyone could get up and try to take the lead. When they did everyone else would have to get up and accelerate too. It was a fun class indeed. I was surprised at how many times I did the leading, and the legs performed well.

Fat Loss III A2 tomorrow... The woman that runs the gym is apparently interested in what I'm doing and how, so I'm going to try to go in early so she can see me get destroyed by FLIII A2 lol. I didn't think she'd meant what she said when she'd mentioned she'd be in the gym later today and that I should come down so she could see the workout. But she asked me when she saw me when I'd come for spinning why I'd not showed up. It's kind of amazing to me that I'd be doing something that someone else would be interested in seeing - especially because the workout itself is so exhausting.
