No bad food here since Saturday - even had the steamed platter at the chinese restaurant. Portion control might be a little issue (yesterday was FL II B5, so I was really hungry), but I can safely say I'm eating according (mostly) to plan.

That's good. I think I mentioned that when I did the NROL FL programs I gained weight because I was SO HUNGRY! I used to work out on a Saturday or Sunday morning and then go eat an ENORMOUS omelette made for 5 men. It was not good.

NROL Fat Loss II, Workout A6
30 seconds rest between exercises
Front Squat 3x8@120
Wide Grip Seated Row 3x8@195
Hip Extension w/Leg Curl 3x8@20
Push Press 3x8@45
Dynamic Lunge 3x8@70
Upper Body Russian Twist 3x8@40
Notes:
Well, as you can tell from the subject, this is the last A workout in Fat Loss II.
I had the woman who runs the gym check my form on the Front Squat to be sure that I had proper form, and was going down far enough (I was - yay).
I may have to find some other variation on the wide grip row as 195 is the highest weight I can use on the stack. (170 on the stack + 25lbs in platemates).
Hip extension with the leg curl was sloppy in the second for some reason today - not exactly sure why. Thankfully the third set recovered it.
The push press is hard for me to start (the set that is) - once I've started it's easier to keep going. And a small increase in weight too.
The dynamic lunges were pretty good - not as many balance problems, and I was able to control the movement better.
Increase in weight for the upper body Russian twist, some control issues, but I think those were the exception, not the rule.
On the whole a good workout - the new temporary employee at the gym said (when I came over to log the last exercises on my card) that I was working hard - to which I replied, "I always do". Still, it was good that someone noticed.

Great job, Tom! It always feel good to complete a program. Fat Loss III should prove to be a sufficient challenge, but you are ready for it!

Just some random notes for now...
Didn't spin last night as a friend invited me out a great local Mexican bar/restaurant. Definite cheat night, but the socializing was worth it (and they make damn fine margaritas). I had probably the best chicken quesadillas I've ever had last night - the tortillas were thicker than what you'd get at the chain restaurants, but they were soft with just enough crispiness to get the mouth to notice. The inside was basic - chicken, soft cheese and onions I think - but was so thick they looked like mini sandwiches. Delicious. Dinner was what I'd call their Mexican version of Shrimp Fra Diavolo (Camarones de la Diabla I think was the name of it on the menu). Spicy shrimp served with a spanish rice that included diced ham, olives and other good stuff, plus a good helping of beans. All healthy I'm sure but portion control was non-existent. Still, it was fun to be out telling stories and shooting the breeze with some friends.
The same friend that got me out to the bar got a job at a local gym, so he was suggesting my getting a membership there. I'd been a member in the past, and while I'm tempted because they have a power cage and barbells and the like, I'm not sure about the scheduling nor the cost compared to just getting the gear myself.
The last Fat Loss II workout is today - am excited and afraid - I'm hoping I can deadlift the two 80 lb dumbbells today, as they are the highest weighted dumbbell pair the gym has. I could add platemates to get it to 170 or a little higher if I had to. But doing the 80's would be a nice little ego boost, esp since when I started the Break-In I was using the 20's.
The BSS will prove challenging again I'm sure. Even though I'm not doing the workout as written, I feel like I'm accomplishing the goals of the workout in that I am improving myself on that exercise to the point where I CAN do it as written.
As I did with Fat Loss I I hope to post a summary when all's said and done.

I'd imagine that over the longer run, outfitting yourself will prove less expensive, provided you actually stick to using it.
You're obviously quite strongly self-motivated in this, but would it be of any motivational value for you to work out in a larger facility with others? I can't say that it does for me, although it seems obvious at the gym that some really do find interaction with others there useful for motivational support. There are all sorts of mini-competitions in different lifts, for example, that seem to help provide them the social network support they need to keep at it.

Paging back through your log, your progress is indeed impressive. You've had quite a journey already. Good luck with today's deadlifts!

Hey Stingo (BTW, Sophie's Choice was on last night and I watched a bit of it), good luck with your LAST FL2B workout! I hope your BSS w/OHP go well. You can do it!
As far as the gym goes. I actually like to go and work out at the gym. Even though I don't really talk to many people (one of the good/bad side-effects of the advent of the iPod), I like being there. I think I would miss it if I didn't have it. However, working out at home also has its appeal - especially for those with limited time AND an abundance of motivation. I guess you need to decide what works best for you.

Wow, I can't believe you are already finishing up on FLII. I am very scared of FLIII, so I will eagerly watch you make your way through it first!
I have to say that I love going to the gym. I don't socialize at all, really. With only 60 seconds rest between sets and I am basically gasping for air, well.....there's not much time to form complete sentences!! LOL!
Good job, and I can't wait to see the FLII summary report.

I love to go to the gym. I like having a few things around the house, but I'll keep going there for my power cage and big weight needs. Some people don't care for the gym, at all. I can see the home gym benefits, if that's your personality. Not mine, though.

Egham, if you'd asked me that a few weeks ago, I'd've said that social interaction really didn't matter one way or the other to me. But since I've gotten a friend doing NROL, we tend to work out at the same time - she's finishing Break-In today, I'm finishing FL2. And it is nice to have someone else doing (roughly) the same thing you are, or at least on the same path. So being social is something to consider. And thanks for the encouragement - it's always appreciated.
Jill, with the way you workout you must have a rep by now at your gym lol (and I mean that in the best possible way). The main concern with working out at the corporate gym of course is that they aren't a fully stocked gym - no barbells, no power cages or squat racks... Plus they are closed whenever the company closes (like on major holidays - e.g., Labor Day) which I know one local gym which is open nearly all days of the year (though not 24/7). Yes, it'd be more expensive to join a gym but I'd have see what I was getting for the extra time/possible inconvenience.

Jane, having done most of FL2, I can honestly say I'm not afraid of FL3 in the sense that I know I'll do what I can, and what I can't, I'll modify so that I can. Getting the goals of the workout accomplished is my prime consideration which I'm sure I can do (which I wasn't sure about before). Learning the importance of progression was a great lesson from doing FL2.
Roland, I know what you mean... Even though I don't socialize per se at the gym it's nice to see people to at least wave and say hi to. (which is something I do at the corporate gym now). So it's definitely a consideration.
