The title of my journal is a math statement I saw on a T-shirt and loved: Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish which greatly trumps Did Not Start.

This is me: 36, formerly fit, mother of three (6yo, 4yo, 2yo), wife of one. I am very blessed to be home with my kids after a career in computer programming/process anaylsis. Last year, I completed a duathlon (run-bike-run) then laid off training too long, gaining 10 pounds (um - it's not muscle). I found this site from a thread on the Oxygen forums and like the dynamics here very much.

61-Day Goals:
Nutrition: Adhere to my guidelines - total calories = bodyweight x 11. 1 gram of protein/pound of bodyweight. 30% of total calories from fat. Balance of calories from complex carbohydrates. Aiming for 90% compliance based on 5 eating occasions per day.

Fitness: 3 resistance workouts per week (1 Group Power class and 2 full-body workouts). 1 interval cardio workout and 2 runs per week. (This will hopefully make more sense in the context of my competitive goal.)

Personal: To fit into a favorite pair of pants and to leave the television off during the day. What a time-drain!

Competitive: I love multisport, but am WAY out of shape. I want to finish the Pittsburgh Adventure race (sprint distance) on July 15, but that's very aggressive. I may have to re-evaluate what I can accomplish. It's a kayak, bike, run, and the run is my weak spot.

Many thanks to Newman for getting my account activated! I am very open to critique and suggestions for making this more geared for success, so share away. I'll get a helmet in case I'm way off.

More to come later this p.m. - will post food and what this morning's workout was.

WIC, cool title...I love stuff like that, makes me think!

Welcome to the challenge. You'll be running that race July 15, no doubt!

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the welcome!

I typically work out first thing in the morning (5:30 - 6:30), except for riding and outdoor runs, which happen whenever DH can be home with the herd.

Yesterday was Group Power ( http://www.quantumfitness.ca/programs/power.asp ). Today was a slow 2.5 mile run on the treadmill and core strength (crunches on the ball, back extensions, and planks), plus stretching. I've been lax about taking my log with me to the gym except for lifting days, so I have to fix that.

Food so far:
7:00 - 1/2 c (dry) oatmeal, 1 can tuna, 1 cup sweet red peppers, hot sauce (I know, it sounds gross, but I love it.)

10:00 - 1 T nat pb, 1/2 c carrots, 3 oz. turkey

1:00 - grilled chicken breast, green salad, 1 c pasta (no oil)

Headed for a snack of slivered almonds, turkey, and an apple.

Love your journal title!

Correct me if I'm wrong... sprint distance tris for run distance = 5K, right? You can easily be ready for that portion with a month and a half to go.

Nobody said you hafta WIN, right?

Anyway, welcome! You'll have lots of cheerleaders (and not a few whip-crackers, if you need them).

Yep, it's a 2-mile paddle, 12-mile bike, 3.2-mile run. Pittsburgh's kind of hilly, although close to the rivers it's not too bad, so I need to work my runs on real terrain.

I'd like to at least be competitive. There's a grand total of 12 people registered for the race so far. (Although there are about 120 for the tri that is the flagship event, so I might not stick out TOO much. Someone there is bound to be as slow as I am. )
