Looks like I am goint to hit the gym instead of the track/stands. It is so freakin' hot here in Houston! I just don't think I can make it!!!
I will try and do HIIT on the eliptical at the gym... I've never done it before on the eliptical, so we'll see how it goes!!!! I hope I don't make a fool out of myself!!

Good luck -- I'm sure the elliptical HIIT will be no problem for you!

So I made it to the gym... BUT did not do HIIT... I decided to try and run for 20 minutes on the treadmill. I used to run all the time, but I had a revision surgery in April and have not run (steady state) since then. My PS said I could start running again at 4 weeks, but I was too scared... so I decided to wait. I'm about 8-10 weeks out..I can't remember anymore!
I decided to try one of the new treadmills at my gym. It is upstairs and boy... it is MUCH hotter upstairs in the evening than I remember!! The new treadmill didn't have a fan on it either, so it was really hot!!! I usually run downstairs on a treadmill that has a built-in fan... yes spoiled... I certainly did not know how much I depend on it while running!!!
Anyway, I ran for 23 minutes. I did somewhat of an interval run.. adjusting speed and incline throughout.... Since I'm trying to build muscle, I don't want to do long cardio runs... I think it will defeat the purpose of my goal.... to gain a little muscle and of course the dreaded fat!! I think I stated in my goals that I did not want to do cardio over 25 minutes.... because in the past, I did at least 30 - 45 minutes 3-4 times a week. Now, I just want to do 2 cardio days... either ss or HIIT or stadiums.
Sorry... I'm rambling.... if I am making a mistake w/ my training in this journal... PLEASE feel free to advise me differently. I am open to change
I used my polar chest strap.. I forgot to start the clock... so my watch only recorded 21 minutes. Let me know if this looks okay:
Heart Rate:
Maximum: 179 (96%)
Average: 160 (86%)
In Zone: 149 - 167...... 5:18 minutes
Calories: 177, 25% fat

So, I have been looking into personal training certificates. My problem is that I want to take on site classes... not on a website or weekend seminars. I would really like something more detailed.
Any ideas?? I found this program through Sam Houston State University (a college here in TX) BUT it's an online program. I've emailed the coordinator w/ some questions.
If you have time, please look at the site and let me know what you think.... by the way.. it's through ACE.

Actually, I think it sounds interesting. The only concern I would have would be what the certificate is going to get you. I.e. is this certificate looked upon highly by those places hiring for this profession? Do you have to re-certify? I'd suggest you also post this same thing over in the "Fitness Biz" forum, where you may get a few more responses from more qualified people. In any rate, I will be curious as to what you decide.

Thanks Lance.... I am going to do a little more research and I will definitely post it in the other section...

Hey Amy...I haven't stopped by in a while!
I agree with Lance. Just make sure the certificate is reputable or will give you the credentials you want. In the end, I think what will matter most is how you interact and relate with your clients. You'll have the knowledge, but how will you present it? Also, is there a specific reason why you don't want to do any on-line classes? They have their benefits, especially with busy schedules and all. There may be some programs out there that are just as in-depth as on-site classes. Plus, with on-line programs, you may be able to complete it one class at a time which will spread out the financial expense. It might be worth looking into just to be sure. Just some thoughts. Keep us posted as to what you do!

I feel I would do better in a classroom setting... if I don't understand something, I can ask the question and receive an answer immediately.
I also have two young children at home. It might be a little difficult to concentrate while taking the classes online.
I am going to continue to look at other programs and hopefully make my decision soon. I know that whatever certification I go with, I will not be taking the test for several months. I hear a lot of the tests are very difficult.

Last night was rough... my daughter Rylee woke up in the middle of the night throwing up! This is the 3rd time in 5 days that she has thrown up in the middle of the night. So we are off to the dr. at 2.
I have no idea what's going on... she is fine during the day. But last night she threw up several times and also had "other" restroom issues... I think you get it!
Anyway, I will not be able to make it to the gym until my hubby gets home from work. I can't take a sick child to the childcare!!!
Here is my plan for the gym:
superset
dumb bell incline bench press 5x5, 90 sec. rest
cable seated row 5x5, 90 sec. rest
superset
dumb bell shoulder press 5x5, 90 sec. rest
wide grip lat pull down, 5x5, 90 sec. rest
superset
barbell close grip bench press 5x5, 90 sec. rest
high pull 5x5, 90 sec. rest
swiss ball crunch 3x15, 60 sec. rest
This is a workout I really enjoy.... I love shoulder presses, high pulls and the incline bench press.... It's those dreaded leg days I HATE!
By the way.. my legs are a little stiff today from running last night...... luckily I will be doing legs on Thursday.

So I read through your log since you were so kind as to stop in mine... DANG, lady! You're doing some serious work!
About that fitness summit...
The Fitness Summit (3rd annual, I think? First one that I attended, though) was held by our own JP in Little Rock this spring. It was fantastic--I'll be attending every year that it's happening. I learned a lot of info, but maybe more importantly, I met a lot of the forumites as well--what a bunch of great people!

Tina was also brave enough to actually raise her hand when Alwyn Cosgrove asked how many people in the room were steady-state runners.

I made it to the gym today!!!!
I did the workout that was scheduled for yesterday... upperbody..
The workout was a success, my arms are feeling very jello-ee like right now!!!
Tomorrow will be the dreaded leg day... I can't tell you how much I dislike these days.... I feel so great after I complete the workout, but I dread it the day before until it is over!!!
By the way... I've officially gained a pound I have been stuck at 110 and for the last three it's 111!!! Now.. I just need to gain a few more
My husband made turkey burgers last night and they were YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!
