Default Post-Hurricane Clean Up -- diet and workouts.

Finally getting life back together after the disorder created by Ike.

Went back to very low carb eating yesterday and am committed to doing this for at least the next 6 weeks. I'd really like to knock some fat off in a concentrated effort, then re-evaluate my approach afterward. My low carb problems come in whenever I allow ANY non-low-carb food into the menu -- my focus breaks, and it's Katy-bar-the-door after that. I'm going to really focus on always choosing low carb foods for the next 6 weeks, even if the most low carb option isn't always my ideal choice. It will be worth toughing it out.

Also spent a lot of time this morning re-arranging our garage so I can get back to my weights. We had a lot of disorder imposed on us due to the hurricane, and it's been two weeks since I could even get to them. I've got it arranged now and plan to do several days of re-break-in-type stuff before returning to finish FL II.

Right now, finishing up grilled pork chops and a roasted tomato for lunch. Low carb is gooood once you get yer mind right.

Isn't it nice to be eating fresh food again?

Sorry about the Sour half and half at Starbucks this morning

Default And . . . we're back.

Weigh-in: 227 and heading down.

Activity: Lisa's Energy System Drills with hip mobility and core emphasis.

Elapsed time: 19 min 38 sec
Finish time: 7:15 am

Whew! It's been a long time -- I feel weak and stiff! But, that should change here shortly . . .

Thanks, Tim! It sure feels good to be back at it!

Weigh-in: 227 (scale read 226.5 at first then changed, but don't think I'm not on to its little tricks!)

Activity: Lisa's Energy System Drills with hip mobility and core emphasis. Couldn't seem to find my balance today - kept stumbling all over the driveway.

Elapsed time for drills: 21 min 30 sec -- times are running longer, due I think to two 2 things: (1) out of practice; (2) I've switched my "course" to the back end of the long driveway, so it's longer. The front end used to be shielded by a fence so passing traffic couldn't see me flopping around in the driveway, but the hurricane blew that down.

Also added the following:
Deadlifts: 5 x 115, 126, 136
Swiss ball crunches: 3 x 10 @ bw+holding 33lb plate (tried holding it behind my head at first, but couldn't hold it steady enough without hyper-extending my back)

Finish time: 7:05 am

Thanks, Tom -- and thank goodness for semi-dark early mornings!

Back to some activity:

Weigh-in: 226.5

Activity: Lisa's Energy System Drills with hip mobility and core emphasis.

Elapsed time for drills: 20 min 20 sec -- still running long, but spent more time focusing on form than speed.

Finish time: 6:30 am

Work has been almost all-consuming lately, so I've made little time for exercise. The consolation is that my diet -- but for a few cheat meals -- has been on plan. Tonight will be another long one -- till midnight at least. I really like the fact that even if I don't have time to lift, I can still bang out a set of mobility stuff in less than 30 minutes and get on with the duties of the day.

So how long did it take you to get into work this morning.

I left my place at 6:30. It was almost 9:30 before I got to my desk.

Wow! That's horrrrrible!!

I waited until 8:30 and made it to my office at 9:40. The freeways have just been INSANE since the hurricane, and I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it. The side streets are functional again and the HOV lane is open.

What gives??

Not sure... this morning was a combination of Motorcycle accident at 2351 that had things back up to Bay Area by 6:50. Then there was the detour to try and get around it, and then came the rain. All I know is I was tired before I got here this morning.

Hit the Chinese Buffet for lunch yesterday with several co-workers, including my co-dependent, enabling, [insert your favorite pop-psych term here] friend. An old stumbling block for me.

But, I prevailed -- I ate only steamed / grilled veggies and non-battered meats without sweet sauces.

The payoff this morning: 225 lbs.

Boo-yah!

Very cool - I go to a Chinese restaurant every Monday for book club, so I know well the challenge of which you speak. (I order the steamed chicken and broccoli when I'm good, hot garlic eggplant when I'm not.) Well done.

Unfortunately Chinese is in the realm of foods that make me swell. And I love Crab Wantons

Pictures from Galveston are in my journal.

A Fatloss Filler
Workout A 3.14159265358979323
(finished at 6:50 am; elapsed time (excluding pre- & post-stretching: 33 min 25 sec))
60 sec rest between sets, full rest between supersets

Front squats (crossover grip) 3 x 10 x 89 lbs
Dumbbell prone incline bench row 1 x 10 x 33 lbs, 2 x 10 x 25 lbs

Supine hip extension w/ leg curl 3 x 10
Barbell push press 3 x 10 x 89 lbs

Dynamic lunge 2 x 10 x (bw)
Upper body Russian Twist 2 x 10 x bw, 1 x 15 x bw

***

Been a long time since a lifting workout, so I did this while waiting to start a new routine. Somewhere toward the end of the FL II spectrum. I backed off the weights for several of the exercises since so much time has passed since my last workout.

Used no weight on the dynamic lunge -- a video inspection of my form reveals that my center of gravity is WAY off forward, so I concentrated on keeping my trunk up right and touching my back knees to the ground.

Weight pre-workout: 227 lbs (still paying for a cheat meal Saturday night -- beer & crabs.)

Surprising to me: my 11 year old son was looking over my shoulder as I was writing this, so I asked him how many digits he knew for pi -- the little guy had them all right!!

Default And now for something completely different . . .

Started my Link-zilla Lisa~ program today:
Finish time: 6:00 am

Single Arm DB Swing: 10 x 15 lbs, 10 x 25 lbs, 10 x 15 lbs

Stability Ball YTWL's: 3 x 10
Elbow Touches: 3 x 10

Lunging Step-up: 3 x 10 x bw
Side Plank: 3 x 30 sec each side

DB curls: 5 / 5/ 7 @ 25lbs

****
Wow -- looked easy, but I misunderestimated it! Had to back off of 25 lbs on the DB Swings because I couldn't feel whether the form was right.

YTWL's were much harder on my shoulders than expected -- they look so easy in the pitchers!

Elbow touches - they looked easy, too, until I realized my hips were still shifting. Dangit!!

Lunging Step-ups I took slow to focus on getting the lunge part in.

Overall, fun and a great change of pace.

Default Friday's Workout done on Saturday!

Here's what I shoulda done yesterday morning but ended up doing this morning:

MAMP for 10 minutes, finished at 8:50 am, elapsed time (excluding MAMP and post-stretching): 39 minutes 50 seconds

Front squats (cross-body grip) 5 x 89, 5 x 100, 5 x 111, 5 x 122, 5 x 133 lbs

Yates Row: 5 x 89, 5 x 100, 5 x 122, 5 x 115, 5 x 135 lbs
Decline push ups (22" bench): 5 x 5 x bw

DB King Deadlift 10 x 15 lb dbs, 10 x 10lbs dbs, 10 x 15lbs dbs
Incline DB Y's: 10 x 15 lbs dbs, 12 x 10lb dbs, 10 x 15lb dbs

***

These were different and a lot of fun. I've got some real progress to make on using a proper (non-cross body) grip on front squats and on getting form down on the king deadlifts.

I've overdue for a weigh-in. It was not a great week for me diet-wise, but I'll bite the bullet and weigh-in tomorrow (shields eyes...).

thanks, Bytsi -- I completely understand about the mindless eating thing. Still, it WAS your birthday . . .

Weigh-in this morning: 223.5 -- I believe that's a new low for me! I'm pretty happy with it, especially since yesterday we took the kids crabbing in Galveston, came back home and pigged out on the fruits of our labor.

Now, to nail this weight down and keep going . . .

You gotta go. It's so easy and fun. A pack of chicken legs, some fishin' line, and a long net is all you need.

Activity: Lisa's Energy System Drills with hip mobility and core emphasis.

Elapsed time for drills: 19 min 50 sec -- still running longer than before, but I also added a few reps here and there just to spite myself.

Finish time: 7:45 am (I'm no Mahler . . .)
