LD, when you say you'd toss in a TRX workout once a week, would that be to replace a resistance workout or as a cardio workout?

It looks like everyone else went with bumble bee yellow. I dare to be different.
It really seems to come down to which instructional materials you want to start with.

I usually only plan out two of my lifting days. Then I either wing the rest or have a semi-plan. My other days are usually bodyweight, sandbags, or my TRX.

Well, come on up. If you do manage to drag me to a race, we'll grab some Carolina pulled pork BBQ with hush puppies and maybe some Brunswick Stew for lunch afterwards.

Then get one! Join us when we get the TRX group log up and running.

Aw, you could have just made something up! It's very laid back... just some good-natured ribbing between teams.

OK, I'll jump into the mix in August.

July 8 - 9
Nutrition: Full Compliance both days
Exercise: None that counts for either day. Some yardwork before heading to Chapel Hill on Sunday, but that's all.
We saw the UNC specialist about Mrs. Egham's vertigo yesterday. Basically, she's just going to have to learn to live with it and try to manage it better.
There is surgery to repair the dehisence in her right ear, but she's not a candidate for that because of her loss of the balance mechanism in her left (That ear hardly responded to the warm/cool air portion of her ENG test). The Dr. said he would not operate because there is a real chance that the balance mechanism in the right ear might be further damaged. If that happened, as he put it "A difficult life could become one of sheer misery....Imagine going through life barely able to use a walker due to permanent spinning and disequilibrium".
There is surgery to fix the vertigo due to her left ear problem. Unfortunately, she's not a candidate for that either. There's a very real risk of damaging or destroying her hearing in that ear. Since she lost most of the hearing in her right ear due to the dehiscence, that could effectively leave her deaf.
Now to figure out how to manage it better and live with it.

Well said... That's a lot of stoicism and resilience to show in the face of troubling news. She's lucky to have you, just as I'm sure you're lucky to have her.

I've been noticing that you do this. It looks like a great way to keep things fresh, not to mention more fun. I just may start trying to mix things up a bit more myself.

gobbla, stingo -
Thanks, yes it really does suck....BIG TIME. However, now that we know what the situation is, we have to work with what we've got. We did manage to get some hopefully useful information on common triggers and coping mechanisms. We've also decided to try earlier, more aggressive drug intervention when she feels a vertigo attack coming on...Hopefully we can mitigate the severity and duration.
The Doctor seemed surprised by the number and range of questions we had for him yesterday - We kept him tied up for almost 2 hours with a break for the ENG test and we're highly thankful that he was willing to spend the necessary time with us. We're both very analytical - our jobs require it - and our goal was to as fully as possible understand the situation and our options. We felt our session was a success in that regard at least. No, we did not hear what we had hoped to hear, but we did manage to learn enough to have some hope we can do a better job of managing the situation.
I realize that the full implications of all of this may not have fully registered yet, but we'll work through that as it settles in.
stingo - I've always felt the lucky one.

Sorry it was hard news. I hope that coping mechanisms make it all tolerable. I suspect/know that one of the best mechanisms is to pursue happiness: Declaration of Independence, philosophical sense of the term. Anyway God bless, good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear you didn't get the answers you were looking for at the doctor. I know nothing about Vertigo. Is it something that comes on out of the blue with no known cause? It sounds horrible.

Thanks Jill. Vertigo can be caused by a number of different vestibular disorders. Hers results from vestibular neuritis in her left ear and a superior canal dehiscence in her right.
It's difficult to determine just what brings on a vertigo attack, although we do seem to be closing in on some of her possible triggers - large pressure changes, severe muscle tightness & kinks in her neck muscles, dehydration, fatigue, some vibrations, and loud, low-frequency sounds. At this point, we're tying to take precautions to assure that her exposure to any of these is minimized. I wouldn't be surprised if we find other possible triggers, but we do seem to have a place to start.

wow - both ears for different reasons - that is terrible.
both of those links (neuritis and dehiscence) offer some hints at using physical therapy to facilitate retraining to minimize the vertigo - has she had any relief with that?
Is there hope that the neuritis flare will settle-down/relieve at some point so that she doesn't get it from both sides?
