Thanks, all. We had a wonderful time this weekend and I don't regret at all the fact that I fell off the wagon for a couple of days. Unfortunately, they may prove critical days for the challenge since I calculated in what I knew was on my calendar when I started and things were very close. We'll see....I'm not dead yet!

Nutrition - Full Compliance
Exercise -
- 7 mile run at dawn - 50:58 min, which I don't think is too bad for a nearly 56 year-old geezer- especially given the humidity.
- NROL FL I A late this afternoon - I probably should have waited until tomorrow to do this, but.....
Since I was able to eat dinner within my window for heavy carbs, I prepared one of my favorite, yet relatively easy and quick dinners - - Raspberry balsamic chicken
- Long grain & wild rice
- Green beans with lemon-dijon vinaigrette
- Strawberries with a tad of whipped cream

Thanks! I probably should have put off my NROL workout until today. I don't feel any worse for it, but I also do not want to push too hard and end up with problems. I didn't really plan to run yesterday. I was up at dawn and the temperature wasn't too bad, so I took advantage of what will be an increasingly rare opportunity. Once I got out there and moving, I hit my stride and kept going.
With summer moving in - the humidity is definitely rolling in and the heat is right behind it - running is becoming more and more difficult. I really enjoy outdoor running, but until about early October, I'll pretty much be an opportunistic runner, seizing the opportunity to get out there when conditions are tolerable.
As Cappy suggested, today is a rest day.

Well, so much for my rest day, I guess I'll take one tomorrow. It's been a fairly nice day out and Mrs. Egham finished a couple of her pressing work projects so she decided that she wanted to canoe out to the small island about a mile away (it's shows in the background of my avatar to the right....looks like perhaps a point of land extending out). Once we got to that island, she wanted to go to the large one about 1.5 miles behind it (that island looks like the other side of the lake from our home).
So, I got plenty of exercise, especially since Mrs. Egham really doesn't like actually paddling the canoe. She likes to sit up front and dip her paddle once in a while, but that's about as far as it goes. I have to say that I don't really mind....I'm fairly experienced, having several week-long canoe trips under my belt.
On the way back in, I did the last 1.5 miles as HIIT. Talk about an upper body workout!

That sounds like a fun workout for the day. I am glad you and Mrs. Egham got to go and visit the islands. It sounds like you live in a nice and scenic area. I went kayaking for the first time last year. I was actually afraid I wouldn't fit inside...fortunately I did...

We live on Lake Norman, an approx. 28,000 acre lake formed by the local power company in the early 1960s. The water quality is very good, the fishing (for those who care to fish) is improving, and the sunsets can be spectacular. As development to the north of Charlotte and around the lake has increased, however, boat traffic on the lake - especially on weekends - has become extremely heavy and dangerous. It's still quite nice to sit in our living room or at our lakeside seating area under the oaks and simply enjoy the great view, however.
Canoeing out to the islands gave us a nice break yesterday. We haven't done much of that in recent years since most of our area has been developed. I used to enjoy spending the better part of the day nosing around the coves and walking undeveloped shoreline searching for arrowheads. It hasn't been the same since the woods and quiet coves have been replaced with million$+ homes and piers replete with multiple boats, jet skis and other aquatic playthings.
I never thought about canoe HIIT before.....Might be a good way to get some HIIT in when my legs are too sore to do sprints.

The old carcass is feeling great; doubling up on exercise yesterday didn't bother me - no soreness at all. I had planned to take a full rest day, but that didn't happen.
Nutrition - Full Compliance
Exercise - 5 miles canoeing, including about 1.5 miles HIIT
Today: Full rest day. We'll be driving to Chapel Hill late this afternoon for Mrs. Egham's appointment with the ear specialist tomorrow morning.

Hi Tina -
I appreciate your kind thoughts.
Her local ENT did not think so until fairly recently. Her symptoms and test results didn't seem to support that diagnosis until her huge flare-up a couple of months ago. I asked him directly about this 3 weeks ago and he said that he now thinks that she has a variant of Meniere's.
Since then, the Chapel Hill specialist he referred her to has preliminarily diagnosed her hearing loss as due to a dehiscent cochleas. I haven't found much on-line about it, but one of the descriptions I read suggests that the symptoms build over time. Both of us have lots of questions for the specialist when we see him tomorrow morning and I'm interested in finding out how that impacts the Meniere's diagnosis and possible treatment approaches.
The past 3 years have been rough on her. She's been hit with vertigo attacks while on vacation, attending out-of-town business meetings, and even just sitting at her desk. They're unpredictable, with just a couple of general exceptions, and debilitating.
Right now, in her words..."I want a new head".

I sympathize with the sensitivity to drugs. I am the same way - I take the kids' benedryl for example. I am equally sensitive to alcohol.
We have a friend that lost hearing on one side gradually until he was in college. He has been to tons of doctors and specialists with no answers. I was rather surprised that something like that could go unsolved.
