I've been a member for a while, and the 61 day challenge is just what I need to get myself motivated to make the improvements I want to see.
As an aside, I began working out about three years ago. I had become overweight and lethargic. My weight went from 225 down to 170 lbs over the course of the first year. The next year I maintained at around 175 lbs, while getting into more strength training, and doing a bit less cardio. This past year I have definitely done less of both cardio and strength training, and my weight is up to around 195 lbs, and my clothes are more snug (or don't fit). I have continued to workout, but it seems to go in streaks for me recently. This challenge is just what I need to get back on track. So...
Nutritional Goals
Eat whole grains
Limit chocolate intake
Eat correct portions
Eat six small meals/day
No soda (I drink very little right now)
Eliminate eating in front of the tv
Fitness Goals
Strength workout 3x / week (probably NROL)
Bike 2.5x / week (90 minute sessions) - I'll accomplish this by biking to work - 45 minutes one way (this will be interval training as well)
Run 1x / week (30 minute session)
Personal Goals
Lose 10 lbs of bodyweight
Lose one inch from around my waist
Keep this journal up to date
Competitive Goals
Pewaukee Sprint Triathlon
Brewers Sausage Run 5K
Lapham Peak 5K Trail Run (mid August - after the challenge is over)
This should be fun. Good luck to everyone participating!
Lance nice to have you with the challenge. Good Luck on hitting your goals. You can always do the Riverwest Beer Run 1.8 miles on June 10 if you need an event during the challenge.

Beer Run sounds like fun, GG300 -- I run for beer. I have some other commitments that weekend, so I'll have to pass this time. Actually the Lapham Peak run is one of my favorites, partly for this reason -- the beer at the end.
Just general out and about exercise today. I have been coaching my youngest son's soccer team, and we had our last game today. We were expecting rain, but it held off, so that was good. It was a really fun team (U-8), and I'll miss hanging out with these kids every week.
Eating has been well today -- that is a tough area for me. I was tempted a couple of times, but then thought of this challenge -- so joining the challenge is so far helping me to stay on course.

And, that's what it's all about! Great start, Lance!

I can relate to this! Nutrition is the hardest part for me also! Good on you for avoiding your temptations!!

I'll agree with Victoria. That's what I had in mind! So somehow I missed posting in your thread though I am certain I have read it a few times. You goals look good and I think it is neat that you are biking to work. I personally walk to work but I could bike if I wanted to. I really don't like but about 100 yards away. You might not be surprised that many of my neighbors work at the hospital too and drive to work. Wow!
You're lookin good
It's day 3, what can you do today to "kick it up a notch"?

Thanks for the posts of encouragement all! Today I got out for a three mile run, something I haven't done in at least a month -- so once again this challenge is helping me stay motivated. It was a tough run, but I'm very glad I got out there this morning and did it! Felt awesome after I was done.
Weekends are the hardest for me nutrition wise. So far, so good today.
Well...today WAS going really good. I've been doing yardwork today, cutting some brush and trimming some trees. Got our three kids to help me clean it all up, and they were a big help. So, I took them out for custard - we have an excellent custard stand just down the road. Well, I didn't get anything, I resisted the urge, but then one of the kiddos couldn't finish, so I ended up have about six or seven bites. Really good, but I'm only counting a half day for my nutrition being clean.

I love soocer , travel round the world following my team. It's great that your volunteering for your son's team; that age group is great as they all just follow the ball without any concept of tatics....... but have a great time doing it

kingkop - that's cool about following your team -- I have really grown to enjoy soccer over the last five years or so -- before that I knew nothing about the sport. It's a great activity for kids to keep them active.
Jen - agree that weekends are tough -- but I sure do like them!
Today - 25 minutes of bodyweight exercises following TT program. I was short on time this morning, and this is the first time I did a TT workout -- it was great, especially with my limited amount of time I had.
Nutrition was good today, however -- I some non-whole grain bread at an offsite work meeting today -- and that goes against one of my nutrition goals -- so it wasn't a perfect eating day.
Thanks for stopping by my journal. I apprecite the support.
SOmehow it just seems wrong to run for beer and sausage

I planned to bike to work today, but rain this morning changed those plans. I instead got a good weight workout in this evening -- so it all worked out.
BB Benchpress: 1x8x115, 1x8x120, 1x6x120
Bulgarian Squat: 3x10x10e
Reverse Crunch: 3x10
I've struggled with my benchpress for about the last year, when I had a shoulder problem after trying to bench too much weight. It is finally starting to feel no pain, and so I'm working on increasing my bench, as I feel thats a real weakness for me at this point.
Nutrition: Right on today.
On a side note, I was out in our garden after working out, and found our strawberries are starting to get ripe. I love strawberries, especially fresh from the garden. They're small, but tasty. I think I'll have them tomorrow with breakfast -- if the kids don't get them first. Yum!
Lance, which TT program are you doing? I just started the DB/BW Fusion Fat Loss program. I like it so far, but want to give it a couple weeks worth to really form an opinion. I think it will be difficult for any program to stand up to NROL.
Don't sweat the food stuff. Just remember, you do get some leeway (10% non-compliance). Perfection is not the goal, but being pretty close is just as good.

I don't know much about soccer myself. When I lived in the dorms, some of our soccer players lived in the same corner as I did. They were from England. Cool Guys. We had a lot of fun tossin back some cold ones and watching Manchester United.

Victoria -- I am signed up to the online program, and have downloaded a TT 4-Week Bodyweight program from about 1.5 years ago. I am typically doing a slightly modified NROL, but the TT Bodyweight program works well when I have limited time to workout.
Biked to work, and will bike home again tonight -- 23 miles total. Was cool this morning (about 45 degrees), so cold to start, but by the time I got to work I was definitely warmed up.

OMG 45 degrees?? I don't think it's been 45 degress in Houston for 5 months!!:p
It must be nice to be able to bike to work!! I'm a part-time teacher and I would sweat too death if I biked to work... and my school is only about 3 miles from my house!! I guess that's what you get living in TX!

The temps this year are crazy... a friend of mine that lives in New York (buffalo area I believe) said they had frost warnings for last night or the night before. Another friend who's daughter is in Tahoe for her birthday said it was snowing there. and now 45 degrees in June in Wisconsin??? that's just wrong!

I'm so jealous you have strawberries already! We only have flowers ... but I just put the plants in this year in early May. I can't wait until next summer ... maybe I'll have strawberries AND asparagus!!
It's been cool here in the mornings too ... I think it was only around 50 this morning ...
