She does pretty good in the other styles for a classical ballet dancer. I usually DVR the show and watch it later but for some reason I was watching it live last night while also working on the laptop and that routine just caught me.
This week:
Training:
Wendler's 5-3-1 - Cycle 1 Week 1: Done
Food:
Protein Power (with minimum 1g protein/lb LBM): 90%
Supplements:
Fish Oil, Vit D, Ca, Mg, multi-vit: 75%
I'm liking 5-3-1. Some days I do accessories, some days just the lift. I like that. So far I'm not burning out. Week 3 this week and then deload. I'm going to stay on this for awhile I think.
Finished Cycle 1 week 3 of 5-3-1.
This coming week is deload week.
I'll be working on a new plan for assistance for the next cycle - this round I concentrated on prehab-ish - face pulls, ytwl, Pallof presses, etc. Next time I want to get in the big upper body pulls and then some more assistance for the main lift in a different rep range. So that's what I'll be thinking of and/or practicing this week - new assistance plan.
Yes, I'm liking 5-3-1 so far. I have a terrible problem with longer programs because I have recovery issues and after 3 or 4 weeks I'm toast. Especially if I am eating low-carb and at a deficit, but even when I'm not I have the burnout issues.
The 1 primary lift + accessory work format seems to work really well for me, and I get a deload on week 4 before I crash so I think I can do this for awhile and get my numbers back up on the main lifts.
On the TRX thing, I've been oogling it for a while but refuse to pay money for a bunch of straps and handles. It looks like a (simpler, rougher) basic homemade version could be rigged up. Thoughts?
I think a homemade would work pretty well. There are also less expensive versions around. The trickiest part would be the adjustable part, but most movements are either full length or completely shortened so worst case I guess you could make two fixed length sets. Let me know if you want measurements or close up photos.
Ooh, that would be cool but only when you're really, reeeeeeally bored one day. Hubby's building my new weight room in the well house (and there's room for TRX-like stuff out there) so it'll be a few weeks before I'm actually able to do anything.
That's funny, I was thinking of doing 5/3/1 next also. Why let the boys have all the fun, right? But I'm basically just starting HIAH so I've got a while. Though I'm not completely sold on it as of right now.
Notes: For assistance, followed primarily Triumvarite (listed below) with occasional bouts of "I'm not doing sh!t today". A couple of days I either doubled up 2 days and did no assistance, or altered the OnOnOffOnOnOffOff pattern.
Overall, I liked it.
I didn't really test my true maxes before I started. I looked at the last time I did the lifts on Starting Strength awhile back and just extrapolated maxes from those numbers. Probably too low but Wendler says to err on the size of easier and that you'll progress anyway, so I went with it.

and then, once looked at, it'll appear in the thread.
Nope, no picture. Not sure if Aoife was talking to me or to you, Lisa. But I used quote and there's no link here now while I type. Will see what happens when I post this.
Yah. Showing. Nice. I haven't looked at 5-3-1 closely, so I'm not really sure how it works, but I'm impressed with the numbers just from an exercise point of view. I just read the section in Starting Strength about the press, and it seems really hard to do. 50lbs. from dead start on shoulders? Hard. I could hardly do 50 with the FSPP and the help the push gives!
