So sorry Lisa. It's never easy when people you know die. Even if they aren't close friends, it always seems to affect us. Take care.

it is funny when it is a colleague - half my brain is thinking about her and her family and the rest of her department - and the other half is thinking of an annual project where she had all the knowledge and experience from the business side and wondering how it will go this next time - weird.

Stopping by to give you some hugs ... (((((Lisa)))))
My neighbor died last Sunday from cancer too ... about 9 months out from his diagnosis (esophageal cancer).
It's just a bummer ...

I've been in such a funk lately wrt anything at home (like working out, cooking, cleaning), other than occasional TRX workouts and a few bike rides (which were like pulling teeth to get me out the door). I got on the scale last night for the first time in about a month (yes, at night, but needed to see) and OMG! So much for maintaining (even though I have a lot to lose, I had been at least maintaining for awhile).

I just can't decide if I even care though - that is, care enough to actually get my butt in gear to do something about it.

I think that's my concern about staying away from the scale. I'm trying to wean myself back to once a week (although I still sometimes check mid-week). I know that if I don't watch it I'll slowly lose control though.

In the end you have to decide how much you want to lose the weight. Sometimes (for whatever reason) you don't want it badly enough to start working on it. That's neither good nor bad, just the reality. You'll figure out at some point what you want to do.

I love the History Channel almost as much as the Science Channel(s).
If you haven't seen The Revolution series, I highly recommend it. I've seen it off and on for several years now, but it is running back-to-back today (of course).

For some reason, in school, we didn't really learn the details of the Revolutionary War. I guess because we were so pressed for time and we only got the highlights. In college I took Am Hist after Civil war so didn't get it then either.

This series really does a good job - until I saw it the first time several years ago I didn't really know what Benedict Arnold did or why, why Washington crossed the Delaware and how critical that was, how much controversy there was in the execution of the war, how dire things were, who the other generals were and what they did, etc. Absolutely fascinating. There are other History Channel series as well, I think one is "the Generals" or something like that where they look at Morgan or Nate Green or LaFayette in some detail.

The whole series is like $30 on Amazon I think, pretty good bargain for good history for adults or kids.

Yeah, I read a couple of books on the war, years ago. Pretty fascinating. Then, I learned about the War of 1812, which was basically the continuation of the Revolutionary War. Who knew?

LOL.. I knew that! (I teach Canadian history to my 6th graders).

I really should check out that series Lisa... I watch so little TV these days that I am totally clueless about what's on anymore.

Haven't been here in awhile... just wanted to add my sympathies on the loss of your co-worker and friend.

How is your other friend doing?

got my Vit D level test results yesterday from grassroots.org

13 ng/ml

granted their test is a mail-in bloodspot test (not a professional draw) but I'm pretty sure it is fairly reliable

Looks like weekends at the beach for me!

Nice excuse for the beach!

A little late to the game here but couldn't help notice that your funk followed your coworker's death. I think that is perhaps an okay thing to grieve in this way. You'll come back to caring when you are ready. In the meanwhile thanks for the history channel nudge. I don't have TV but do enjoy it. I always forget I can just get DVDs.

thanks.

Aoife - your avatar plays tricks on me. Sometimes I scroll down a thread you've posted in and I see first a white ball with a hole in it - like a round birdhouse - and claw-like prongs (like a ring setting) holding it.
Then I see the painting as it is -- and then the shadows pull me back to looking closely and trying to figure what the light source is - very intriguing.

Hi Lisa, I just read some of your log. I've been thinking of getting a bike, with all the great trails in OC it's a great way to exercise.

Sorry to hear about your coworkers/friends. I work at a breast center, so I see a lot of patients with cancer, and it's always hard. Especially the young ones, like today I had a 35 year old woman who is facing a mastectomy on Monday. It's just so sad.

Exercise gets those endorphins going though, and is very cathartic.

Not logging many workouts here - still working though.
But for anyone that reads -
I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance - and it's fun but OMGoodness - the routine with Melissa & Aday on their 2nd number. My goodness. What beauty and what strength they showed.

I haven't been watching because I just can't be bothered to turn on the TV anymore.

I watched this video, then watched the full-length version to see the judges reaction. WOW.

Then I went to the official website to see if either of them had ever danced hip-hop (yeah, I'm that persistent).

After watching Janette & Ade do hip-hip, I have to say I think he is a fabulous dancer, but he has a problem. He has no "sparkle" to make you keep your eyes on him.

Hey Lisa, I have been very appreciative of your advice and help on the board, so wanted to stop in and say thanks! I skimmed through your log... but just wanted to send some late condolences for your loss.

Sorry if I missed this, but do you have a TRX at home or do you use one at a gym? I think they are pretty cool and hope to get one someday.
