Workouts? In a log!? NEVER!! Actually, there is a reason why I make a distinction between 'working out' and training. I train.

hey - I was still on page 1 !

calories - Gabe was confused - I think he was pointing to Tina's low cals but posted in here by mistake -

workouts in a log (or training ) - yeah, every so often. Not really logging the none training days when I just do mobility, stretching, some steady state cardio, etc.

which brings us to yesterday
Mon Aug 18th.

This day just started off badly. Somehow, after I went to bed Sunday night, I flexed my right knee quickly (turning over maybe?) and had SHARP pain on the outside of the knee - only in the last few degrees of flexion. I tried my normal quad stretch - no pain at any ROM. Moved it quickly again - same thing at the last few degrees. Resolved not to do that any more and went to sleep.

Mon AM - driving to work, maybe 2 miles from home and the car is sliding in the lane. Hard to hold the line. Then - bam - thmp thmp thmp - blew left rear tire. After negotiating through the lines of less-than-polite morning commuters got pulled over. Removed junk from trunk into backseat - compact spare seems light on air (and I've already used it 3-4 times at 20-30 miles each). Call ACSC (AAA in So Cal) - he arrives, puts air in the spare and changes the tire. Drive to a gas station 1.5 mi from home, get a quote for 2 tires and authorize. They'll "have it done today" but there are many ahead of me (being Monday morning and all). Get home.

Get a call - we were putting the tires on the front and your brake pads are almost gone - sure, do the brakes too.

Back to fitness - I'm working from home and playing with the dogs - go to put the right knee on the bed to kneel on the bed - SHARP pain again - same place at same ROM - nothing on a slow stretch.

Go get car. Didn't need that expense just now.

Migraine starting to build.

Go with dogs & J. & scooter to the park - rabbit a few runs for the team. Walked across some uneven footing (deep bark mulch) - did something to the left ankle. Not a twist but like it over stretched in all directions. Great. Walk back home, rabbitting for the team again.

Iced ankle. Seemed much improved. Knee still behaving oddly - fine on slow motion, but if I "kick my butt" - can elicit the pain. Not particularly happy with kneeling either yet not sharp in that motion.
Migraine still building - not blunted by my usual attack strategy.

Final outcome - no LB workout - no mobility - just advil & listening to Olympics with ice on head and early to bed.

Today - shadow of a headache still - keeping it at bay. Haven't tested the knee yet.

That sucks. The only good things about days like that is that they tend to be few and far between.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Headaches suck.

X2 - feel better soon! I HATE unexpected car expenses ALMOST as much as I hate mysterious nagging pains in my body

The car is 14 years old (some parts are much younger though ) - sure some of the "next car downpayment" can be used to offset the repair costs - but still - that pushes back the timeline a bit more.

Nod. That's how I feel every time I do something for my car. 16 years old, and I'm having a hard time justifying it, but it's still not another car payment so… *sigh*

yes - setting aside a 1/2-3/4 of a car payment every month into a "big repair savings" account - mentally I think this is the way to do this - but then I should have actually DONE it starting 9 years ago when it was paid off - or even 4 years ago when I finished school again (car payments went to tuition/books instead for that period) - but sadly, didn't do that either. Oh well. Only 113K miles for 14 years so it is gently used.

Better than mine. The odometer is stopped at like 180k some time ago. Put that in the column of "things that don't need fixin."

I can't believe your fellow commuters in Orange County would be anything but concerned for your welfare.

I'm the same with my current gas guzzler. I love it in the winter for its 4WD but it's getting to the point where I play 'need or not' when there's an issue. Decided that a working speedometer was a need this week.

Tue 8/19
Workout A: Lower Body
Dyn Warmup: toy soldiers, hip flex/quad stretch, bridges, ankle drill

plan
A. Static in-line lunge with dowel 2x12, each side
B. Wide Stance DB RDL, 2x12
C. Crab Stance SLR 2x12, each side
D. Toe-Touch Squat Drill, 2x12
E. Reverse SLR, 2x12, each side
F. Planks, 30s, 1

Static Stretches

actual:
A. Lunges with right leg back "bothered" that rt. knee after 5-6 reps. Tried a few more as shallower singles to finish out. 1 set.
B. No issues. 2 sets.
C. Did off the ball again. No issues. 2 sets.
D. Knee was pissy after 5-6 reps, ankle was done at 12. No 2nd set.
E. No problems, 2 sets.
F. 1 set

Stretches -
Warrior hip & quad - didn't include quad. Knee not happy to be knelt upon when giving lots of hip stretch (hip in front of knee)
Side-lying quad - no issues.
Single knee to chest - bothered knee unless I was very careful in how I bent it and held it - then OK.
Others were fine.

Fairview Park in Costa Mesa - Sat & Sun mornings (only if not too hot) around 7-8 or 9 AM
The group is "off" right now until late Aug or Sep when things cool off - but there may be people out there still

yup - I guessed ITB too
not rolling my ITB (it wasn't on my list - or if it was I missed it) - guess I'll start.

what's the verdict on painful movement - OK if you can make it through or stop when it hurts?

I did think that it was likely someone else (different first name for the photographer), but nice nonetheless.

Also nice. Funny, but yesterday our next door neighbour's daughter came into the backyard to take pictures of some of our flowers. Her boyfriend had purchased a new camera and she wanted to try taking pictures of it. I was in the middle of my weights workout so I never got to look at the camera though.

Loved the dog pictures, particularly the two who decided it was time to rest - they just stopped and smiled.

Let's avoid painful movements.

I thought of you constantly this weekend ... Gray's course was AMAZING!!!

Let me collect my thoughts and then I want to check in (via email) to see how things are progressing. I will likely want new video ...

achilles still painful off and on.
At the beginning of the long weekend I decided to try taping up my arches to try and give unshod/unsupported support. I think it's helping but it is hard to be certain since the pain is off and on. But I think there were fewer times last week when I'd stand up at work and be hobbled walking to the coffee room (yes, my orthotics are in my shoes at work but I don't think they give any support when I'm just sitting so that's where I think the taping is helping - as well as when barefoot at home).

Knee has been painful or annoying more often - e.g. not just in stretching or workout motions but also things like kicking covers in bed, getting out of the car (flexing), and recently sitting still at work (because I tend to flex the knee more) and walking the dogs in the evenings. I do ice it at night if I think about it or notice it acting up, but haven't done too much in that area.

In other news, I had a nasty migraine on Saturday so that pretty much killed the weekend (only threw up 3 times (sorry if TMI)).
