Good work on your 101 workout

Low carbs for an extended period of time make me insane when I'm working out hard (if you look back into my previous log when I was doing GSD and NROL FL2 you'll see). My obsession with food just goes through the roof. I'm still looking for a way to make it all work AND stay lean.
I think that if Roland keeps up w/the Ross workouts, he may need some more carbs too!

Hi Erin..thanks for stopping by my (sometimes trashy) log. It's really all Gobbla's fault. He starts it.

Just a word of warning to all you folks out there with "nut problems" ... you know who you are Tina!! Whatever you do...DO NOT buy any Marcona Almonds. They are as good as macadamia nuts and I'm afraid I may have to throw the entire container away (deep into the garbage can, under the cat food).

I loathe burpees with the intensity of one thousand white hot suns.
Therefore, they are good for us... right?
Seriously, burpee tabatas kick my friggin ass... and I can only get four or five in per work portion of the tabata interval. They're brutal.

You are correct...Burpees are the work of the devil himself. I may have to try Burpee Tabatas...a special form of punishment!

Stop! Now you're really doomed it by bringing in talk of taints. I was thinking of starting a new log anyways, since Chad and I are on a "break" while I'm learning some o-lifts. I need to think of a good title.

So, you dumped both Chad and Ross for more of a concept? Not even another person?

I question the logic of dropping one long while "learning" 2-3 lifts. What happens once they're learned? You going to start another log? That doesn't make sense now does it?!!

Poor Chad. Empty shell of a log. Empty shell of a man. Why not give him a nice paper cut and poor lemon juice on it?

I test-drove another TRX workout today. It was quick, but still tough. I don't know why, but the tuck jumps and scissor jumps were really getting me. Maybe because they're tough?
TRX Workout #3
A1: Assisted Pistols 4-6 reps per leg
A2: Mountain Climbers 10 per side
B1: Suspended Flat Pushups 8-12 reps or as many as possible (substitute chest presses if you can't do flat pushups. These are pushups with your hands in the handles and your feet on the ground)
B2: Tuck Jumps 10 reps
C1: Rows 8-12 reps or AMAP (you can do these all the way up to suspended rows)
C2: Scissor Jumps (aka jumping lunges) 10 per side
D1: Ab Rollouts 8-12 reps
D2: Suspended Pike (w/Abduction optional) - 8-12
I then did some shoulder stuff to help me strengthen/stablize the area.
Kettlebell walks w/2 18# KBs. You hold the KBs in an overhead snatch postion and walk. I did three lengths of the yard and a back.
Alternated KB walks w/ KB arm-bars. 3 sets of 2 per side.
It's funny, our neighbor's son who has cerebral palsy and autism, loves to watch me do the TRX workouts. Every time I do one of these, he drives his chair into our yard and watches. He never watches my other workouts, so these must be amusing. He drove his wheelchair back and forth about 20 or so times during my workout and nearly ran me over when I was doing the KB arm bars.

That's pretty amazing. There must be something about the rhythmic movements that he likes. Does it bother you at all that he watches?

No, it doesn't really bother me. I always say hello to him when he stops and watches and I talk to him. He doesn't make eye contact but I caught him sorta smiling today. He's pretty severely disabled so if I can bring some comedy to his life, I'm all for it. It's funny though...every time I do that TRX...out he comes.

I think that is probably more profound than we can realize! You are giving him quite a gift. You'll have to dedicate a workout to him!

I practiced my o-lifts today. My left shoulder is feeling much better, but I somehow slept funny last night and the right side of my neck is all stiff. This is probably all related since last week I had the same problem after my left shoulder started hurting. At any rate, I didn't push myself too hard.
Warmup: Dynamic warmup, shoulder warmup, warmup with oly bar.
Power Cleans 5x20kg (bar only)
Cleans 5x20kg
Clean & Jerk
5x20kg (bar only)
3x25kg
3x30kg
2x35kg
3x37.5kg
3x40kg (88lbs)
DB Upright Rows 3x8x15# per hand
One-arm braced DB OH Press 3x8 per sidex20#
GHRs 3x8x20# chain
External Rotators on knee 3x12per sidex5#
3 sets of 5 snatches w/kids bar (not sure how heavy that is)
I could have gone higher on the C&Js, but I didn't want to hurt my shoulder on the jerks. My next session will be Thursday and I figure I may be a little more ambitious then. Mostly I wanted to work on technique.
So far, the new diet plan is working well. Despite the attention to detail necessary to cycle cals/carbs according to workout intensity, it's easy to stick to due to adequate calories and delicious food options.

I've made a trail mix before with almonds, which called for toasting them, which I'd never done before and oh... they were ummm... terrible, yes - utterly inedible.

TJ's has spanish hazelnuts. They are soooooo good. Very light and crispy. I added them to my trail mix, too. They have a fancy name, but it escapes me.
Don't buy them.
I pretty much don't keep any nuts in the house. Sometimes I keep a big bowl of nuts in the shell. So I have to crack them to eat them. But, that's still not enough work.

I buy the raw almonds from the bulk bins the store I go to has. That and cottage cheese is my typical midafternoon (between lunch and dinner) snack. Past that I've not had a real drive for them - they're tasty and all but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way.

I usually keep raw almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds around the house. Never a problem. I can eat them in small amounts and I'm fine. BUT, I love macadamia nuts and can eat a TON of them. This is why they are banned from the house. I didn't think I would have the same problem with these Marcona Almonds...but I do. You live, you learn.
