So why aren't you walking around one of the beach/boardwalkie things with cookbooks? If I wasn't an old married woman, I'd bite at that! That's HAWT! (said in best Paris Hilton voice)

I might have to start doing that. I might have to settle for a coffee house...

I was able to squeeze in a quick workout before picking up the kids from school (minimum day).

Sumo Deadlift
135x10
225x6
315x6
365x3
405 (failure to launch)
405x1
405x1
405 (failure to get above knees)
405 (failure to launch)
315x6 (deficit)
315x6 (deficit)

That's all I did. But I feel like it was more. Deadlifting make me hungry, too.

Damn nice pulls Roland, and I like your "new" philosophy. Your not fat by a long shot. Just train hard, be active outside, and you'll get big in the right places and slimmer in the others.

btw, not just cookbooks but bring culinary books. Indonesian cuisine or something similar and the coffee house women will be straining necks to get a peek
*I've never tried it but it sounds like it'd work*

And he cooks too ... wow! My dad always did all the cooking growing up ... he's a gourmet (not by profession, just by interest) ... I lost 20 lbs when I went to college because the food was so bad!!!

Nice DLs! 405 ... is that a PR?

No, I've hit 405 before. It's the most I've been able to do. I'm very happy that I got it back. I hit that PR 4 or 5 months ago, then lost it! Couldn't get close anymore. So, I'm pleased.

Thanks. It was a relief to hit it again. Gotta keep the form right. That's been my problem. Practice.

First training run, this morning. Meaning it was the first time I actually ran on purpose with the intention of building up to 10k.

5k, 3 laps around 1.1 mile lake
29 minutes. Yikes.
1 cute woman with dog. I said good morning on lap 1. Hi on lap 2. She was on the phone on lap 3 (bitch). Ruined my whole plan.

I got a little hotspot in my left shoe when I was 5/6ths done. I hate shoes. Stupid freakin' huge feet that I can't find shoes for. I've even had these ones for months. I sprint in them all the time with no problems. Crap.

My best shoes are these shoes I've had forever. I always thought they were cross trainers, but I saw some on clearance last year. Basketball shoes. I'd been running hundreds of miles in basketball shoes. Basketball players do it, I guess. These are my Sand Challenge shoes, now. No going back.

bullshit, buy good shoes or you'll fuck yourself up. If you're running on sand 99% of the time then it probably doesn't matter as much, but if you're running on trail\asphalt\concrete you NEED good shoes.

http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/..._urlID=6663958

if you don't like the shoes you can send them back (even after you wore them), so even with your freako feet you should be able to get something good going on.

Yes, sir.

Maybe I should go to a running store and let them evaluate me? I'd feel better returning shoes that didn't work after they told me they'd work, you know?

I hear you're not supposed to have to break shoes in, but is that really true? All my life, I've broken a new pair in over a week or two. Then, they're cool. If they are totally bad on day one, I won't keep trying, but usually I slowly increase my time/distance. Is this not true? Should shoes be good to go from day one? Hell, even my new pants aren't good to go on day one.

I think if you have a hard-to-fit foot, it's worth going to a good running store to have them fit you. But, you've got to go to a good running store where they know what they are doing to make it worth it. They'll watch you walk and look at an old pair of shoes to see where they are wearing and they'll help you pick the right shoe for your needs.

Running shoes should feel pretty good right out of the box.

You could go to a store and get fitted and then go find them cheaper online . Most shoes need a little bit of break in, but like Jill said they should feel good right away. If you don't feel comfortable that "these feel good" when you're in the store, put them back and try a different pair.

Having an official "break in" routine seems a little much, with no more than you're running there shouldn't be any real problems even if their is some friction or odd fit.

Not telling you NOT to go to a professional to get the perfect shoe but that website has a shoe finder tool that'll do the arch\pronation\use if you're interested in getting a general idea of what you're looking at.

I wouldn't call it an official break in routine, more of a desire to feel a problem before it gets bad. Once, I got some new shoes. They felt great. I ran for miles. Then I went for 5 miles and got a blister on my arch at mile 4. Had to run barefoot the mile all the way back.

The blister healed quickly, but I had to wear moleskin and/or vaseline for 6 months until the skin toughened up.

I don't think you need to "break in" shoes anymore ... with all the new technology ...
I have hard to fit feet too and I'm scared to order online without trying them on in the store first ... that's why I haven't gotten Nike Frees yet ... waiting to find a store near me that carries them so I can try them and then come home and order online ...

Busy day, today.

Ran a mile, then did hill sprints.

It was Tone's birthday (9), and he wanted to hunt lizards and frogs. We saw lots of lizards and caught zero. We heard some big frogs, and using triangulation, we pinned them down. Too well hidden, though. Didn't even see one.

The creek area looked like that stupid Tom Cruise unicorn movie, with the "stuff" falling down gently from the trees the whole time. It was cool. But, there was a bit of itchy feelings after a bit.

Gym time.

A1: Renegade Rows with Pushup, 3x12, 25lbs
A2: YTWLs, 3x12, 5lbs

B: Sumo Squat. Worked up to my biggest number ever. 275. And parallel, to boot! I was stoked. I guess my mobility work is paying off.

C: Sumo Squat, 3x6, 225/225/205

D: Prone Bridge, 4x60s

More running on the treadmill, plus 5 intervals that weren't exactly sprinting, but very hard.

You're going to murder the hill challenge...murder. They're going to stick your ass in jail. Men will fear you, Women and small children will be awed. It's going to kick ass.

Do you have a method behind your madness currently?
