What a jagoff.
Yesterday I was doing my NROL workout (FL2 workout A5, so it's 30 seconds rest between sets) and I'm on the ground next to the squat rack doing supine hip extensions w/leg curl. This woman comes up and asks if its okay to use the squat rack. I say, no - I'm using it. She says, oh - she only wants to do one set. Ummm....can you you use one of the other three empty squat racks? No, it hurts my wrist when I move the bar to adjust it to my height...yours is at the right height, so can I just do a set? Fine...go ahead. So she quarter-squats the bar I was using for barbell push presses (65#) for a few reps then takes off and starts doing some box jumps. How annoying is that?
Oh, and here's a question for you? Why do some guys insist upon wearing knit ski hats to workout? There was a guy wearing a knit hat that he kept taking off to reveal seriously gross hair that was sopping wet (i wonder why). He also had the world's dirtiest t-shirt on. Visions of Mickey Rourke in Barfly kept popping into my head. Yuck.

OK, that word? LMFAO!!! Funny.... and fit for mixed company :p
The gym I USED to go to, there was this one guy, very fit but OMFG, the STINK on this man. Even with no sweat on the bench, if you sat down after he was on one, you picked up his stench... like the worst BO I have ever encountered outside of the homeless shelters. ICK.
Just had to share that one... seems like there are just some really gross people in the world!

I'm sure I still looked like a fool, BUT I had my head/neck better supported this time so I couldn't see myself in the mirror.
I must be doing ok though. The guy (there's one in every gym) who always flirts up the cutesy 20something girls (you know that one, he's always chatting for 10min between sets, shaved bald, you know that one... I swear there's a clone in every gym I visit!). Anyway, he nodded and said "hi" to me. I guess I could probably pass for 39 yet! Tomorrow is my 10th wedding anniversary. Seems like yesterday. No big plans. We got married in Las Vegas (planned) so we've been lowkey from the start.
Rain here. I'm sick of rain. I'm sick of cold. I'm sick of laundry. I'm sick of viruses. I'm sick of DOMS. I need a vacation to someplace warm with low carb, high protein tropical beverages!
My next workout is going down to the 12 reps per set. I'm looking forward to that. 15 seems like sooo many. Then again, I guess I need to add a little more weight too. It's always something.

Well HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Come on, ten years...?!?! At least let the man buy you some bling or something....

I'm still here...
I'll be back soon. Things have been busy. Great anniversary -- tenderloin, giant crab legs (both grilled) and a bottle of Asti (same as at our wedding). I think he loves me or somethin'!:p
Spring break this week so I'm up to my neck in kid stuff. We did take them to a waterpark hotel with an awesome gym (ok, it had 2 different bikes, a treadmill and dbs) so I even got my workouts in. I now know 100% that HIIT on the bike is killer for me. I dropped it after getting sick and thinking it was my thigh issue but the granny lady was doing 3.2mph on the treadmill and was taking her morning mile plus so I knew I'd never get it and had to opt for the recumbant bike (the guy who looked like he was wearing a sweater, but wasn't, had the other bike bogarted). 10min HIIT session and the next day I had swollen upper legs that could barely let my jeans pass over. (ironically, it was the start of Passover this weekend, but I'm not Jewish so...) I meant to jump rope today to see what that did for me, but instead did the sprints that laundry gives me up & down the stairs over and over again.
So, when I get settled into my normal routine again I'll be around like usual. I am getting to the gym so that's normal, at least. I'm finding that FLI (actually break in as well) are really hard on me recovery-wise. This ain't DOMS baby! It hurts. Not a "I'm injured" hurt but a "I'm not recovering" type of hurt. I'm kind of ouchy even when I'm not moving. I've got 1 more A-B cycle of the 12 rep sets, so really only about 10 days left of FLI. I'm thinking I may go back to Waterbury or try Jen Heath's suggestions (although I like full body better than splits; I just feel worked out that way).
LATER...

Thought I'd have time to run through and do some catch up, but the little dears are waking up so I have to be quicker than planned! We're having a fun week though. My sister's kids are visiting my parents so we all met at a skating rink yesterday. I got some good exercise in that way and am looking foward to trail skating this summer. Mom had my 18mo neice (brother's kid) along so I took her out for the dance things (hokey pokey, chicken, etc). She seemed to like it. DD almost won a hulahoop contest. She was neck & neck with an older girl so they said to do it on 1 foot and she dropped.
Workouts are going ok. I'm finding more & more than I'm kind of bored of repeating the same two workouts over & over. Anyone else feel this way? I don't hate them, but it's becoming kind of routine and boring. At the hotel last weekend, I was able to do my entire workout without my journal along. It's that memorized. Only 4 more FLI's left. I plan on plowing through,but... I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I've always done well on CW's stuff. We'll see. I've got a week to figure it out.
Have a good one!

Yes. I've never done NROL, but TT was like this, too. At the time, it was fine, but after 6 months, I went on TT for Mass, which has a bigger variety in the week. It made it hard to go back to TT for Fat Loss again.
I ended up doing something like this:
M: A
W: complexes and high rep db snatches
F: B
Could be worse. Home Grown Muscle's first phase is the exact same thing, the same horrible tri sets, two days per week. For weeks on end. Ugh!

Glad you had a nice anniversary ... regarding the slow recovery time ... I think that's one reason that Alwyn recommends that EVERYONE do BreakIn ... these workouts are metabolically demanding and it takes the body time to acclimate! Two thoughts ...
1. How are you sleeping? How many hours uninterrupted?
2. What's your nutrition like? Any pre- and post-workout nutrition? How about supplements (specifically BCAAs)?

I found the Break In programs to be very taxing, but once I adapted and moved into the fat loss programs, it became much easier to recover. I am one of those people who loves structure and can do the same thing over and over without getting too bored. Right now I'm actually shopping for a new program and am considering either TT or one of Waterbury's programs. Not sure yet. One thing I find about NROL though, it's very hard to do if you aren't eating enough!

I did do the break in and didn't really feel bored there. This is just monotonous. I don't know if it's the workouts or the recovery issue that is making me almost dread workout days. It could be a combo.
Sleep is pretty good. I rarely wake up and usually get about 8-10hrs/night.
Nutrition is always on my mind and lately I've felt like I'm spinning again. There's a part of me that craves being anal and tracking every last crumb and a part of me that doesn't want to get that obsessive again b/c it hurt mentally & physically. I've never really looked at pre workout nutrition. Usually I eat breakfast around 8:30/9am and hit the gym about 9:30a to work out. I always thought that was a pretty good spread. PWO is usually 1scoop PP, 1/2 banana & some other fruit (berries or pineapple mainly). The other day I tried a bowl of oatmeal w/PP & blueberries. Protein powder is the only supplement I use (besides a multi, calcium and some fish oil). I'm just not big on non-food things.
Supplements bring up another point that's been mulling around my brain lately. Basically, when is it "good enough?" Cards on the table -- I'm 40. I was fat/overweight/obese for about 10-12yrs. I've given birth twice. I'm not training for anything competition wise. I want to look good; who doesn't? But, how do I set my goals when I'm just about 100% happy with my current body? I have a few little areas that I'd like to look better. Is there really a maintenance out there? I guess that's what I'm trying to rassle with right now -- figuring out where I am and where I'm going or even really want to go.
WRT workouts... I think I'm going to go back to Muscle Revolution and following some of those cycles. I need the constant changing.

This is it ultimately ... if you are happy with where you are, then workout for fun (ie keep it as intense as you feel comfortable with) and keep your nutrition sensible ... if you want to train for something (ie a triathalon, a 5K, a strongwoman comp, whatever) then set your goals for that. It is hard when your goals for so long have been physique-related and now that you are where you want to be physique-wise, what do you do?

Brenda - I just bought Muscle Revolution and I'm thinking I'm going to start doing some of Chad's workouts when I'm done with NROL FL2. Which of his programs have you done so far? After reading MR, I'm thinking I should follow the "Increase Strength and Lose Fat" protocol, which would have me starting out with BBB. Have you done it?
I hope you're enjoying your easter break with the kids!
