Yeah. I've only hit the gym a couple times since February and each time it wasn't pretty. I'm looking forward to getting back in there more regularly.

So I've spent the last two days stumbling around like Frankenstein. both days I woke up thinking I wanted to either run or lift that day, then realizing when I couldn't make it down the steps without putting both feet on each step that perhaps it was another day of recover for me.
I'm still stiff today, but better. I have a busy day planned, but if I'm up to it and get the time, I'll do Break-In B this afternoon. If not, I'll do it in the morning.
I am settled on my goals. I don't want to take so much time off of lifting again this fall. So my goal will be to stay in shape for a ten miler in Mid Sept. and half marathon's in Late September and late October. The late September is supposed to be challenging terrain, and my goal will be simply finishing comfortably. I may concentrate on speed for late October. I will try to balance this with lifting steadily through mid summer and continue to lift some in late summer. I will also be swimming and kayaking.

Didn't I used to be a runner once?
Last week we had about fifty trees removed from our property. This week has involved serious shoveling, weeding, and mulching. Somehow, hitting the gym hasn't seemed necessary.
My husband put up pictures from several of my past runs. There are a lot of pics here, and I doubt that even my most ardent fans will want to see them all, but I'll post the links.
My first long run. A ten miler. The 2006 Bridge run:

Which was a training run for the 2006 half marathon:

After which I blew of running for several months. Then I started training for the River Bank Run. As training, I did the Striders Ten Miler:

And, finally, the 25K River Bank Run:

Great shots Dee, looking forward to having you back running. I understand how life interferes with training, I have my Mom in a rehab hospital from her knee surgery and that extra 1.5 hours stopping in and making sure she is doing OK really takes a chunk out of the day. But with what she is going through and seen me through it is the least that I can do.

I'm still alive. Still healthy. Still maintaining. However, I'm not running or in the gym. Today I spent about five hours clearing brush. There's a huge, overgrown, neglected hedge at the back of my yard, and yesterday I got tired of looking at it. So I started hacking away at it. It's about 100 feet long and 30 feet high. It was about 30 feet wide, but not any more!
Friday I tried weeding around my juniper bushes. I decided to trim the bushes to reach the weeds. It's hard to know where to stop on those suckers, so I took 'em out. They also hadn't been trimmed much since they were planted 20 years ago. Well, they're gone, now.
That's the kind of stuff I've been doing over the past few weeks. We bought this house a few years ago on a 1.3 acre overgrown lot. I've been intimidated by it, and afraid to make it my own. Well, once the tree guys took out those trees, I kinda got inspired. So I'm hacking and ripping all over the place.
I guess there's no need to go to the gym and do woodchoppers, then pay a landscaper to chop your wood
I do need to get back to training soon, though. I want to do a ten miler in mid September and a half marathon in late September.

I know what you are talking about Dee. I just finished all of my yardwork at my Mom's place. You don't exactly feel like going out for a run after that. At least it looks nice when you are done.

I finally ran today. I'm a little ashamed of how long I went without running. And I felt the break today. But, I'm really mostly OK with it. I tend to get obsessive, and I needed to get away from it for awhile. But I don't want to give it up, so I'm back out there.
I printed off Hal Higdon's Intermediate I Marathon plan. I'm still only planning to do the half marathon in September and another in October (and a ten miler in September), but I figure if I'm really raring to go after the long break, then I'll keep up the Marathon. But I won't feel bad if I drop back to a half marathon plan.

Oh, it was a three miler in the neighborhood. It felt long, but I did about 10:30 per mile.

Five miler. Horrid time. Humidity is high. Most of the run wasn't pleasant, but I know it's going to take time to get comfortable again, and I'm not going to whine about it... much.
Still, there was a point during the fifth mile that I felt that old feeling. Where breathing just feels like a pleasure.

Yep, I'm still alive! And for all the work I've done on it, my yard looks worse than when we started I know I've missed some decent running weather, but it was decent for yard work, as well.
I ran five miles this morning. It was supposed to be a pace run, but I was still over ten minutes a mile. I felt alright, though. I'm kind of surprised how quickly you lose speed when you take time off. I hope I won't be disappointed by how slowly you recover it Still, I'm far better off than I was a year ago. At this point last year I was training for my first 10K.
Today I'm going to destroy another bed of junipers. I really do love the destruction phase of "gardening"

Yeah, I don't have much of a green thumb. More of a black thumb of death. eww...that just sounds gross.

Well, since we're still in the destruction phase, a black thumb is just what we're looking for!
Next month they're bringing a freaking bulldozer and 70 TONS of rock to build a beautifully terraced hill and patio out of my moonscape of a back yard. Our landscaper says it will be one of the the nicest before and after shots he'll have ever had. I'm thinking that's not much of a complement to our current "landscape".
Meanwhile ten bushes died by my hand yesterday. Buhahahaha.
And today I ran nine miles, though I had eight on the schedule. I'm now weak as a kitten, and the remaining bushes need not fear me. I felt good during my run, but I'm very slow. I imagine I'll be repeating that comment every run for at least another week.

Nice run. You have any races planned for the summer or are you just waiting for the fall? I'm sure you've probably laid out your plan earlier but I don't remember.

My next race is the Coast Guard Festival 10K in late July. That was my first race last year, and if I can't beat 1:11:44 (325 of 353!) then it's been a wasted year
I also plan to do the Bridge Run and the Holland Park to Park. I haven't made a final decision for late October. I'm currently training for the marathon, but once the miles start ramping up, if I'm not enjoying it I'll drop back to a half. If I do a half, it will be in GR. If I do a full, I may do Detroit.
