Great job on the pace run. It feels great when you dig deep and find something inside that you never knew you had.

March 31 4.5 miles. Tempo run. I sped up each seven minutes to 35 minutes, then jogged home.

April 1 - Informal half marathon. Slow - mostly between 11 and 12 minutes per mile. Overall pace 11:22. I picked another hilly long run:

I'm already sore. I'm taking tomorrow off

I felt fine on Monday. I forgot to glide myself before my long run, so I know exactly where the tag from my shorts was, but other than that I've felt fine.
Today (4/3) was an easy six miler. Avg pace 9:56 min/mile, pacing pretty even through the run. I stayed in the moderately hilly portion of the neighborhood instead of climbing out of the valley.

10 quarters. About 5 miles. Fingers frozen. Tea steeping. Must thaw.

4/8 3 miles. It's chilly, but wasn't as bad as I anticipated it would be.
Last night, my son wanted to try out his new BB gun while his dad grilled dinner. But the gun wouldn't work because it was too cold. So he came in and hand wrote this message, and held it to the window for his dad:

I tend to agree.

4/9 14 miles Average pace 11:35
What can I say? Chilly and slow. My water bottle leaked all over the front of my coat, then the temperature dropped. That wasn't pleasant. But this was my longest run ever, and the elevations were challenging. I wish I were faster, but I'll reach 15 miles well ahead of schedule, so I'll have a little time to work on speed.

This past weekend was the point that I ran my first 14 miler in prep for the Riverbank last year. Looking good.

Nice Job hitting 14 miles and I love your sons note. They are calling for snow and rain in Milwaukee tonight so if you figure out how to kill the weather let me know

Thanks, guys.
4/10 6 miles. Average pace 10:05. Felt slow, but this is a decent pace for my regular runs.
My son did say please, but to me the only good thing about the cold is that he can't use his BB gun. Hey, I am a mom, you know.

4/12 4.5 miles. Tempo run. I increased speed every seven minutes to 35 minutes, then cooled down for ten. Pace each increment:
12:27,11:06,10:17,9:11,8:19,11 :49
I'd have loved to have gotten that last fast increment, but didn't make it. Still, a nice run. I had no desire to run it in the cold, but it wasn't so bad once I got out there.

4/13 7 miles
Felt dead. I didn't feel like running, and I never really got into it. I don't have my splits handy, but I know I was slowing down as I went along, even though I started uphill and ended downhill.

One of those days, huh? At least it was nice out.
You still looking at doing the striders run next weekend?

And today was even nicer.
Easy three miler. Average pace 9:44.
So how often am I supposed to buy shoes? I'm going to ask over in the running forum.

I'm rotating 3 pair right now. (Yes, I know I have a problem! ) Most recommendations I've seen say you should replace them every 300-500 miles. Of course that is a very wide range. I can tell that mine are wearing out because I'll start to get achy knees and hips. For me and the kind of shoes I run in that happens between 350-400 miles. I usually make them last longer by relegating the old ones to recovery runs or wet, sloppy, muddy days.
My three pair right now have 43, 195, and 358. I don't smoke any more and don't go out drinking nearly as often. Running shoes have become my new vice. Almost time to buy a new pair.

15 miles. Very slow. All miles well over 11 min/mi, some over 12. Average pace 11:32. Elevations were a killer. I'd post a graph, but MotionBased isn't working, and I can't fix it right now, because I'm tired.

When the runner in me grows up I hope he can run 15 miles that slow.

I've been where you are
Today I ran six miles in under 9 min/mi. It was harder than I wish it was! I did this run at the beginning of March. It seems like it should have been easier by now.
