About 3 months ago I convinced my sister to do a strongman/woman contest with me this coming May. The idea is awesome, a team of one male, one female compete in a bunch of team events to see who has the strongest team. The main problem was how male dominated the sport is. A bunch of us guys wanted to do it but no one had partners.
So I decided to create my own. My sis has always been a huge strongman fan, but never from the training side. She has always worked out, but never for strength development.
I offered her a deal...All the free training from me, all she has to do is work with my schedule and show up. In exchange she is going to be my partner. Now that she has started training she loves it and consantly refers to "Getting Jacked!" But she still has one limitation for me, she wants to decrease bodyfat and doesn't really want to gain any weight. So far that has been no problem.
I figured some of you ladies and guys would be interested in seeing her progress and following her training while we see just how strong you can make someone in 6 months. I figured this was the best time to start this up because we are through the more borning, "break in" type workouts and are really getting into the heavy stuff.
She had her first training day on the events two weeks ago and loved it. This weekend we are going to Eau Claire to do a bunch of training with about 6 other females and about 25 guys. It should be a blast.
I should also mention that she has already deadlifted 135x6 which is just about 5 lbs under her bodyweight. It was awesome.
I will do my best to update this every workout, but sometimes it will be less often, sometimes more. Not only will I put workouts, but anything else that goes along with making the transformation from regular gym-goer who workouts out to a Strongwoman who trains.
Let the project begin.

Gabe - I told her and she was excited about it. She loves publicity.
OG - I couldn't decide which forum to post it in. I don't think I have the mod power to move a thread, but if you guys want it in the Training Log forum feel free.

Hmmm, introducing your sister to the guys on this forum ... you sure that's a good idea?
Good luck on Natalie's training and your competitions together. I'm sure you guys are going to have a blast. Look forward to following along with your adventure.

This is interesting! I live in the Cities and grew up in Eau Claire. I'm relatively new to weights (about 2yrs) and it's kind of hit & miss finding out where the 'real' lifters are. There is a married couple who are powerlifters at my gym and they've helped me tremendously with my squat form. Other than that, there are a few people who look like they're more in tune than the norm but it would be fun to see a real competition. Good luck!

I think I have her convinced to log-in and post. That should be fun.
Alco - She is not too upset with weight gain, as long as bodyfat levels go down, but would rather stay smaller. Plus its not really a big deal, we are already the smallest team by quite a bit. Facing off against a bunch of pro-strongmen make this contest more for fun than anything else.
And guys - I am training her so she can kick all of your asses and I don't have to worry
I will log her first workout of the latest phase in just a second.

I'm excited for Natalie! Way to go Danny. This is going to be fun to follow. I hope Patricia will see this thread. I'm sure she can offer some good tips for strongwoman prep.
Supine hip extension with leg curl. They are done on a stability ball. Most of us recognize this silly acornym from the NROL forum and training logs. It's just too long to write it out all the time!
A1) Plate Front Squats w/ band around knees
2x12 10 lbs
I have had a ton of problems teaching my sister to squat properly. Keeping her weight on her heels has been a huge problem and having the flexability to go low enough is another. On just about any quad dominant exercise she wants to raise up on her toes. These are awesome though. I am training her glutes to actually work during a lift and she could keep her weight back. Thanks Bill Hartman!
A2) Seated Cable Rows - V-handle
2x12 40,45
B1) Bulgarian Deadlifts
2x12 20 lbs
B2) Incline Dumbbell Presses
2x12 12.5, 15
C1) Lateral Step Ups
2x12 10 lbs
C2) Low to High Cable Rotations
2x12 30 lbs
D1) Overhead Presses
2x12 25 lbs
D2) Assisted Pull-ups
2x12 #18
Its really funny that we both have the same weak points. We both suck at pressing exercises and squatting but are great pullers. Damn genetics.
This workout had to be really quick today so there was a very limited warm-up. Normally I would detail that stuff here too. Even with only about 30 minutes of training I still kicked her ass.
Saturday is her first training day and since it is contest style I am having her take the rest of the week off to rest.

I'm Natalie of the Natalie King Project. Danny has been telling me about this post and that I need to check out the site, so here I am. First of all, thanks for your interest and support.
I've been working out regularly for several years, and I thought I was in pretty good shape... and then I started working out with Danny and I learned what REAL working out is. He's been training me since the middle of September and I can't believe how tough it is. I frequently wake up feeling like I was hit by a truck and think "ohmygosh, I physically can't get out of bed" or "I hate my brother so much". But most of the time I wake up feeling really strong and proud of my hard work.
I am a die-hard Strongman fan/groupie and there's nothing more fun than spending the day watching a competition. I am not sure what it will be like to actually compete, but I'm eager to try it out. I have a long way to go to get as "jacked" as I wanna be, but so far, so good.
Welcome to the board, Natalie. Your brother is incredibly well-respected and admired around these parts. Many of us envy you having such a great trainer (let alone brother). Best of luck on your training and preparation for competition. We will all be watching your progress with interest. Cheers.
