Maybe you should:
a) up your weights so you need the longer rest period
b) actually take the rest period in the weight training
c) warm up and cool down on the HIIT and on weight days
d) all of the above
OK, I received a clarification over at the MA forum. It's 5 hours of exercise related actvity per week and that time could be outside of the gym. So I need to come up with another 2 hours of activity to fill out that time.
Damn, sucks being single.

Good workout. Went up in all the lifts except for the shoulder press. My definite weak point. And one of the Bicep Boyz was actually working legs today, although it was only leg extensions and curls. If I ever see him squatting or deadlifting I'll know the world is coming to the end.
To the shower. Lata.

Jamie, I do all that. Still only takes me 30-35 minutes. They were amazed at the MA forums that it goes that fast. One guy said it took him an hour to do. I can't see that.

Okey-dokey smokey! You're just super fast. I didn't really pay attention Monday how long it took me to lift, so I'll pay attention this morning. Also, the 5 hours were in reference to people that were satisfied with their results...surely there were people in the study that exercised less and still were pleased. Also, it seemed like a "how you feel" study and not "are you healthy" study. So, if you feel good and like the results you're getting in less than 5 hours then you should be good...right?

Well, it's only been 10 days so for my results we'll have to see.
Figure it this way. Todays workout was 14 sets. At a 301 tempo, in the 5-7 rep range a set takes 20-28 seconds. 90 second rest for a total of 2 minutes per set. 14 sets = 28 minutes. With my warmups 30-35 minutes. I think that's a good pace. And I'm lilfting using a 6 rep weight, and I increase every workout.
Check it out when you workout today.

I agree it's a short wo. Today was upper boday and I totally could have done something after I was finished. My upper body was done, but the rest of me felt like I could do more. I am considering adding core work to today's wo.
Maybe you're supposed to chitchat with the Bicep Boyz between sets. That'll eat up some time at the gym.

I don't think so. The one guy comes out of the locker room, puts his iPod earbuds in and never shuts up. And since his ears are plugged he's so freaking loud. Maybe that's why his partner wasn't there today - he needed a break.

Way to go, man. Is there someway you can spice up the HIIT?
Yesterday I did basketball HIIT -- shoot, rebound and run like crazy for 30 seconds, then slow it down and walk from shot to shot for a while. Gets some weird looks but it's way more fun than the treadmill or stationary bike.

Nah, my gym doesn't have that. It's just a lifting gym, no BB courts, pool or the like. The thing that gets me is I'm sitting on this bike that's going no where and there's all these other toys that I'd rather be playing with.
Ah, well, I'll get to play with them tomorrow.

steady state is great if you like it. especially if it's outside. you see stuff, you get a little light headed and euphoric. good times.
You're right ... but to me that isn't steady state ... that's a fun bike ride or rollerblade or whatever ... it's not exercise for the sake of exercise!! I used to like to run, but now that I'm an old lady, the arthritis in my ankles/feet doesn't like the pounding too many days ... I can maybe run once every 2-3 weeks ... but in the summer I bike almost daily with my kids!
If it was warmer, and I had pretty new shoes, I may try it. By the time it warms up I'll be done with this program.
Ha!! Tomorrow will be the day to run outside!! What's the high supposed to be? Around 12 degrees here I think ... NOT!!!! I'll be bundled up inside with my wood stove!!

My sentiments exactly.
OG, you've got me fired up. I'm going in for an HIIT session tomorrow. About time. (But it won't be at 4 AM, that's for sure....)
OK, they are predicting a temperature of 16 degrees with wind chills of -2 at 4 am. I'll have to get up earlier just to warm up the car. This should be fun.
It's going to be colder further up north. Damn, I don't know how you do it.

AHHHHH a balmy 10 degrees. It takes a long time for leather car seats to warm up. And there was no one else in the gym this morning. Not the whole time I was there. The guy behind the counter even put on the rock station for me. And he was the only one to see my DB OH silly walk lunges. It was a good workout.

That's why my car has built-in seat heaters ... I love my butt-warmer!!
Well, at nearly 10:00 am it has finally risen to a balmy 5 degrees!! It could be worse ... we could live in North Dakota where it is normal for these temps!!

Ah, if only I had that. My cars and '88, I don't they thought of heated seat back then. At least not for the lower end cars.

Another good lower body day. Increases on all the lifts (except for the swiss ball lag curls. Although they are not getting easier). Fun workout, although I notice that this is the time I start getting bored with a program. JB says to change exercises every 4 weeks, which is what this plan will do. Once I start getting into the thrid week of doing the same routine it becomes, well, routine. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to see this through the end. But I wonder if changing your routine every 2 weeks would affect any gains you might be making. Too much pondering for a Monday morning.
Brain: "Are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
Pinky "I think so, Brain, but where are we going to find a duck and a hose at this hour?"

RL gets bored easily, too. And I get irritated with him b/c it feels like he doesn't have any stick-to-iveness, but he's been doing this longer than me and it doesn't help to get agravated. So change it if you need to; I'll bet if JB were working with you personally he'd change it up if he knew you were bored.
It's not that I get bored, but that my body gets bored and adapts very quickly. The strength plan of TMA shouldn't be an issue though, because I only do every workout four times before changing to something new. NROL had me doing six or more repeats of the same workout before a change, and I could tell that was too long (for me, anyway).
What's the biggest factor for you, Bob -- emotional boredom or physical adaptation? I couldn't quite tell from your post.
