G, I'm a terrible squatter. I'm going to start out with DB's and work my way up to the bar.

Just remember the tips I gave you and you should be fine. If you keep thinking you can't do it then you never will. So shut up and squat Bob! What are you doing to warm up before squatting?

I generally just look at the squat rack, it gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. :p
I plan to get there a little earlier and do some foam rolling of the legs and hips. And then I'll have at it. So I'll be squating tomorrow. And deadlifting. My favorite.
I do remember your tips and they have helped me. I'm not as bad as I was before. Thanks.

it's easier (IMO) with the bar than DB's. There's less to think about and the weight is easier to keep in one stable position. but you do what you do.
I don't know if you have "starting strength" or not, but it's a fantastic book. It made squatting a totally different excersise. Two tips:
1: Stare at a fixed spot 6' in front of you on the floor. Don't let your eyes drift.
2: ALWAYS keep your chest out (everything else will fall into place if your chest is out). If you're struggling or thing something feels off...puff out your chest. You want to go deeper...puff out your chest. It's like Jesus himself came and blessed the squat. It's amazing.

Hi, neighbor! Sounds like you've got yourself geared up for some major mental changes~ Looks good to me--except for the part about rolling out of bed at 3:30 AM. I could never handle a 4:00 AM WO without dropping a DB on my foot. Yikes!
Good luck to you, Mr. Early Bird.

Hey neighbor, thanks for stopping by. The 4 am gym time is not too bad, I've gotten used to it (well, when I was going consistently). This morning there was no one else there when I arrived and only 2 people showed up while I was there. I have the gym to myself.
When I used to work out at night (6-7 PM) I used to have trouble getting to sleep, was too pumped from the workout. I don't have that trouble anymore, except when the brain won't shut off.

Anything to keep you motivated and Jenn's boot off your ass unless that's the stimulation you're wanting....

Day 3 Break In
3 in a row (hush, Jenn ). Today was some lower body work, So 5 good sets of front squats, good depth, felt good. OH squats were a different story. I'll need a lot more practice with them. Deadlifts, my favorite. 5 good sets at a moderate weight, felt real good. Some walking lunges, got some strange looks doing those (there are 2 guys who come to the gym early and in the 6 months that I have seen them there they have never, ever done any leg work. So I get some strange looks at some of the leg stuff I do). Finished off with some step-ups. I expect I'll have some good DOMS by Friday.
So some HIIT tomorrow, more weights on Friday, and next week I'll do the routines as written to get the pacing right. Food is going good, trying to get on track with that. Taking my supps. Moving forward.

Bob, I too read and liked MA (despite it being focused for men!) ... and I too am not great about remembering my supplements ... if I could just take them all at once and be done with it ... but it's the spreading out through the day that kills me!! I'll be watching your log with interest ...

Good job Bob! So are your legs tired out now Two more days til the weekend. You'll be taking breaks on the weekend or are you going to workout on the weekend to? Have you decided to use the bar or db's with your OH squats. I'm with Gobbla on this one, the bar allows for greater stability and allows you to focus on the squat and keeping good balance. Great for the core.

Yes, my legs are tired now. Good thing there are rails in the bathroom stall.
I'll be going to the gym on Saturday but it's for HIIT (what a way to screw up a Saturday, eh?)
I did DB's today. The bar felt uncomfortable. I also did the OH after my 5 sets of front squats so my legs were starting to get tired. I'm going to try them again on Friday when I'll do mostly upper body. But yes, you can feel it's really good for the core. And I was able to get pretty deep with them too. It's just practice now.

I hate cardio too, but I have been doing different bodyweight stuff for cardio instead of machines and it is great ... so I might warm up on a bike for 5 minutes (and use it for cool down), then for my "work" I'll do squat jumps or burpees or bodyweight squats or mountain climbers ... and for "recovery" I'll do marching in place, or hop back on the bike or whatever. I just keep my stopwatch with me and switch when my time is up (whether it is 30/60 or 60/90 or whatever). It's made it a lot more interesting ... and I sweat buckets!!

I have to keep that in mind, Julie. Although once this program is over I'll probably not do any cardio for a long time.

Focused on their biceps, are they?
You took on some heavy-duty lower-body work all right. Sore? You'll be lucky if you can walk! :p And getting up from a chair is going to be murder.
