Hey Julie - I love travelling for vacation, but for work it's just ... work. I'm heading to Florida for a few days. I go there all the time for work. It's nice to see sunshine, but most of the time I'm cooped up in an office for meetings. When I first started my career I used to think business travel was cool and glamorous, not so much anymore.

I love hearing about your kb workouts. I actually picked up a kb yesterday. We worked out at a different club in our chain and they had all kinds of cool stuff. We saw the kbs after our regular wo's so we just kind of picked them up and moved them around a little bit. Nothing to even call USING them, but it was fun to FINALLY see what the fuss is about. :-)

You GO girl! Pistols always impress me... I am afraid to try the damned things. I think they're in the BOM somewhere though, so I may be forced to do so

Pistols are fun, once you get them. It took me a while to figure it out, but once I had the balance down it was much easier. When I get to the bottom of the pistol, I sometimes get stuck and fall over. That's why it's better to do them in the privacy of your own home!

KBs are really convenient and practical for a home workout - that's why I got them. I don't have space for a real at-home gym and kettlebells fit nicely in the corner and are really versatile (and fun). Next time you are at the different club, try doing some two-arm swings to start with. They really get your heartrate up!

I actually had a pretty good hotel-gym workout this morning. This hotel has a really decent set of DBs (not the usual pink and baby blue set shoved in the corner - these went up to 50#) so I was able to do some nice exercises.
Goblet Squats 3x10x35#
Push Ups 3x10xBW
Incline Bench Press 3x10x25# per hand
Step Ups 3x10x30# (10 per leg/15# per hand)
Two-point DB Row w/Elbow Out 3x10x25#
Swiss Ball Pikes 3x10xBW
DB Push Press 3x10x20# per hand
Swiss Ball Crunch
Dumbbell Swings 3x10x25#
Renegade Rows 3x10x25#
I was going to do a little HIIT on the treadmill, but of course ALL the cardio machines were full of people reading their newspapers. Bummer. I actually saw one guy on the eliptical wearing flip flops! Overall good workout though. Had fun, sweated buckets, burned lots of calories.

Looks great, Jilly!
Hey, I didn't know you were a Michigander.... I lived there for 28 years. My family is still all in the Detroit suburbs. Where are you at?

Hey Tina - I'm in the 'burbs. Bloomfield Hills. Where did you grow up? Do you ever miss the February gloom of Michigan? I'm not native to the area (grew up in CA) so this time of year I am hating it.

Jill, looks like a fun workout ... did the paper-readers give you any funny looks?!

Grew up in Utica, Royal Oak, Lapeer, Ferndale... all over your neck of the woods.
I miss the seasons, but NOT February. That is one cold month there. Brrr!

Oh, totally! Occasionally I would catch one of them looking over at me with a puzzled look. Probably thinking..."what the heck is she doing?" "Boy, she is REALLY sweating." "How is she going to get caught up on today's news if she can't read the paper WHILE she works out?" "Wow, look at the size of her calves!"
The paper-readers drive me crazy though...as far as I'm concerned, if you can read a paper, you're not working hard enough!
Wow, so many people with ties to Detroit. It really is a small world.

The paper-readers ... that cracks me up!!! It was magazines years ago at the gym where I worked out ... you'd get the cardio bunnies hogging the treadmill while reading a magazine ... @!#&**@@ ... personally, I feel nauseated if I try to do elliptical or treadmill with reading material ... the recumbent bike, maybe ... otherwise no way!! And if you can read, you are definitely not working hard enough!!!

 Oh, for heaven's sake!
I wish I could have been there to see them watch you doing the DB swings. That one knocks EVERYONE out!

I know Sona...what was he thinking wearing flip flops on the eliptical. I mean, at least he's doing something right? But, I would think you could hurt yourself! He was a middle-aged heavy set guy and was sweating like you wouldn't believe. After he drenched the eliptical, he decided it was a good idea to use each of the weight machines (which I'm so glad I don't use). Then he walked by me and leaned over the bench that I had left my hotel key on and completely drenched my key and the little paper holder that it comes in. Totally yuck.
Okay...tomorrow morning I am starting GSD. Watch out! I totally need it too...I got on the scale when I got home from my trip and my eyes popped out of my head. I'm hoping it's only water weight and GSD will take care of that in the first few days. Should I start a new journal or just keep this one?

Good luck soon to be shredded Li'l J! What meals do you have planned out? I know a lot of people were doing crustless quiche type things when GSD first came out.

Gettin' Shredded - Day One
Okay, so I started the Get Shredded Diet today after getting inspired by Tina's progress and her encouragement that it's not as bad as it seems. I ordered all the supplements and just dove right in. I am embarrassed to say that I was 131 pounds when I stepped on the scale this morning. This is an all-time (non pregnancy) high for me. However, I have gained quite a bit of muscle over the past few months of doing NROL, so my clothes still fit me. I haven't measured my body fat, but will do so tomorrow. I'm thinking I'm around 23% right now.
I am pretty tired today after having flown back from a business trip last night, and of course my flight was late due to all the crazy weather around the country yesterday. So many flights were delayed or cancelled. Travel really screws your body up because I was a mess at the gym this morning! This morning I worked out with a trainer that I use sometimes. The workouts she designs for me are always fun and usually involve exercises I would never do on my own. I considered stopping the personal training when I took up NROL, but it's fun enough that I've continued either once a week or once every-other week. Anyway, this morning she took me through and all-stability ball workout that kicked my ass because I was so exhausted. I was wearing my HR monitor and my HR was really up there. I burned over 400 cals in the hour which is about what I burn doing NROL workouts.
I'll detail out my food later today. I took Hot Rox this morning according to the plan, but I'm not so sure I like the way they make me feel so I'm not so sure I'll continue to take them. We'll see how it goes.
