Default Another NROL Log: Jamie's New Log of Lifting

For those of you that read my Book of Muscle Log, this entry is a long time coming. My last BOM workout was on 10/18/06. The gym that I trained at was losing money and closed on 10/20. At least I finished the program.

I also found out the next week that the company I worked at would be closing and I would be laid off, effective 12/18/06. So instead of joining a new gym, my wife and I decided to be conservative in our spending until I found a new job. Well, I will be receiving an offer from a new company this week for a job starting the 1st of the year. Perfect timing! With this job offer, I can resume weight training.

Over the last month and a half, my workouts have consisted of the following:
  • Basketball once a week
  • Random push-ups and chin-ups a couple times a week
  • Random running a handful of times
  • A couple games of touch football
  • Eating sweets
On Saturday, I tried a new gym out that's just a couple miles from my house, while doing the 1st workout from the NROL Break-in program. After the break-in program, I will do Hypertrophy I. My wife is pregnant, so she wants me to gain weight with her. This should be interesting, considering that I will start half-marathon training in February. There's a chance that massive amounts of food will be consumed. Let's hope it's mostly clean. Anyway, I hope to put on about 10 lbs over the next 3 months or so and see where it goes from there. Hopefully, I'll get swole.

New Rules of Lifting

Break-In Program: Workout A1 12/9/06

(60 second rest periods)

Straigh Sets
Squats: 135x15, 135x15

Supersets

Static Lunge: 65x15, 65x15*
2-Point DB Row, Elbow Out: 35x15, 35x15*

Supersets
Pushups: BWx15, BWx0
Swiss-Ball Crunches: BWx20, BWx0

* denotes each leg/arm.

It's been a while. I had DOMS 15 minutes after this workout. As you may have noticed, I didn't finish the last superset. That's because I felt like I was about to throw-up... which I did 5 minutes later, in the bathroom at the gym. Apparently, my body was a little surprised by 15 rep sets with 60 second rest periods. Needless to say, this kicked my butt. If I don't get sick next time, it shouldn't be too hard to finish. I had a hard time walking yesterday.

Good times!

Congrats on the new job, new baby, new gym. Wow - 2006 is ending on a great note for you Jamie.

Good luck with NROL.

New Rules of Lifting

12/10/06

1-Mile Run: 9 minutes, 5 seconds

I thought that I could loosen up my legs if I ran a mile and did some foam rolling and stretching. I'm not so sure that it made a difference. I'm still freakin' sore. At least the Colts and Lions played well this weekend. Not really.

Thanks, fin. I've been a little discouraged about my job situation and kind of getting out of shape, but things are starting to look up... and right in time.

I'm not sure who the mods are in this subforum, but I misspelled "Another" in the title of the thread. Normally, I wouldn't care, but since I plan on posting in this thread for the forseeable future, I'd love to have it fixed. If a mod could take a minute to fix it, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

LOL! I was just going to point this out, Jamie!

Have fun with the prgram. I've just recently started it as well. Definitely puke-inducing!

Congrats on things looking up for you. It's going to be great to meet you in Indy for the race!

Yeah... That spelling error was a pretty ridiculous move on my part. I just scrolled down to the bottom of the training log subforum and realized that Danny and Ian are mods. I pm'd Ian, so hopefully he can hook me up.

Things are definitely starting to look up. Hopefully, things will be squared away with my job over the next couple days and I can put that stress out of my life. The Mini is going to be a blast. It will be a lot of fun meeting you and the other guys. Hopefully, I can get a little faster between now and then.

New Rules of Lifting

Break-In Program: Workout B1 12/11/06

(60 second rest periods)

Straigh Sets
Deadlifts: 135x15, 135x15

Supersets

Static DB Lunge: 25x12, 25x12* (25 DB's in each hand = 50 lbs total)
DB 1-Arm Shoulder Press: 25x15, 25x15*

Supersets
Free-Motion Lat Pulldown: 80x15, 80x0
Reverse Crunches: BWx20, BWx20

* denotes each leg/arm.

This was interesting. I tried another gym last night and it was a little difficult to do all of the exercises that I needed to do. Supersets will probably be out of the question here on most days, due to the large crowds.

I was supposed to do Step-ups on the 1st superset, and not lunges. I was looking forward to doing the step-ups, but there weren't any steps or boxes anywhere to be found, so I settled on the lunges.

I was also supposed to do closed grip lat pulldowns, but the traditional lat pulldown machine basically had a line of people waiting to use it. So, I jumped on the Free Motion machine, which was kind of weird. It was a decent piece of equipment, but had me starting with a very wide grip, which is why the weight was so low.

Anyway, this gym gets my approval, due to the fact that my wife wants to workout there and they've got pre-natal aerobics classes. The lady that gave me the tour said that the crowds are at their craziest on Monday nights, so I'll try it out again on Thursday and see if it grows on me.

Jamie,
I took care of the spelling blooper. The rest of the log is no blooper, my friend. Congrats on all the great things happening in your life.

Of course. That will give us more time to drink some beers at the end.

Thanks, Bill. I'll be a a Service Coordinator for a small company here in Indy. Basically, I'll be the customer's main contact after sales are complete. I'll also do a little purchasing and maybe even have a little engineering/design influence. I'll probably post an update my previous "job search" thread in O/T tomorrow after I've accepted the offer. You've got a free subscription to the jruck37 Insider going on here, though. You heard it here 1st.
