I am so jealous. I need to do that next year, even though I suck at running. I just want to run on the track.

I know it sounds pretty cool, but the track sucked.

It was very crowded and kind of boring. The 1st few minutes were cool, and so was running across the bricks at the finish line. Other than that, it wasn't any better than the run down neighborhoods that we ran through.

They did get some good pics of you, Jamie. Good finish line shot.
I wasn't impressed by running on the track, either. It might be cooler if it was earlier in the race.

Or if it ended with crossing the bricks.

New Rules of Lifting
Strength II: Workout A-2 5/10/07
Superset
Barbell Bent-Over Row: [90, 90]x4 (Warm-up) 135x[4, 4], 115x8, 95x12 (180 s)
Barbell Bench Press: [155, 165]x4 (Warm-up) [185, 195]x4, 165x8, 135x12 (180 s)
Superset:
Chin-ups: BW+10x[4, 4], 125x12 (90 s)
Dumbell Shoulder Press: 80x4, 100x4, 60x12 (90 s)
Dumbell Upper Body Russian Twist: 15x[6, 6] (90 s)
Notes:- Bench press felt pretty heavy after minimal benching over the last few weeks.
- Shoulder press was a little too light.
- Through 2 workouts, I think Strength II is my favorite segment of NROL so far.

I'm holding up pretty good. I was actually feeling really good the night of the race at the baseball game. However, the soreness really started to hit me on Sunday afternoon. Monday sucked. Then, Tuesday I was brilliant enough to start Strength-II with a bunch of squats and lunges.
Needless to say, my quads were pretty roughed up until Thursday. I've felt pretty good since then, though. One thing that is encouraging is that my knees/ankles/feet didn't hurt at all- which is pretty unusual in my racing history.

1 Mile Run 4/23/07
Distance: 1.51 Miles
Time: 12:58
Pace: 8:33/mile
Notes:
This was a short, but awesome run. I really tried to push the pace and ended up with a pretty quick time (for me). I think I'm going to concentrate more on speed and less on distance over the next few months- assuming I keep running. I'd like to run my next 1/2 marathon in under 2 hours and working on my speed is obviously the only way to do that. Fortunately, I'm pretty slow to begin with. So I can only get faster, right? :p

5/14/07 Softball
That's right. Tonight was opening night for the good old church league and we started off with a bang. We're playing doubleheaders this year, so that we only have to play one night a week. We won tonight by a combined score of 46-13 (22-11, 24-2). Nice work. We were so on fire that I can't remember how many times I batted. I got on base about half the time and scored almost every time I got on base. I even slugged out a hustling triple in my 2nd at-bat. Good start, with lots of hard running around the bases.
Church record: 2-0

New Rules of Lifting
Strength II: Workout C-1 5/15/07
Deadlifts: [155, 185]x4 (Warm-up) 225x[4, 4, 4], 175x12 (180 seconds rest)
Rack Deadlifts: [SKIPPED]x3 (180 s)
Superset:
Bulgarian Split Squats: 70x[8, 8] (90 s)
Back Extensions: 25x[8, 8] (each leg) (90 s)
Hanging Leg Raise: BWx[6, 6] (90 s)
Notes:- DL's felt pretty good. I was happy to do some of those again.
- I skipped the Rack DL's because the only squat rack int he gym was in use the whole time I was there. So were both of the next best alternatives (Smith Machines
). I had hoped that I could skip them and then get a spot in the rack at the end of my workout, but it didn't work out. Oh well. Next time, I'll try to get to the gym at a less crowded time.
- I think BSS's are in every single routine in NROL. Not cool.
