I bet you're right, Egham... I'll try it when I get home for grins and see.
Julie, you silly lady.... you crack me up.
Good night, all.

Thanks Victoria. I try.
This morning: HIIT run (fartlek-esque)--3 miles/28 mins. To starbucks and back--it's 69 degrees, sunny, and breezy in Michigan right this second. Lovely.
I think I found a house--it's a 1930s Spanish Mediterranean type home, with all hardwoods, a gas fireplace, 3BR/1.25 BA, a library, a formal dining area, a basement, a covered porch, a balcony off the master BR, and it sits on the top of the highest hill in Vallejo--also has a 2 car detached garage. It's in the Vista neighborhood, which is apparently very ritzy. I sent her a good faith deposit to hold it until I get there.
My husband informs me there are FOUR starbucks within running distance from it as well.
The electric bill is gonna KILL me though.... she is on a monthly budget pay and it is 150.00/month withOUT central air. YIKES! I have a couple other must-sees as well, so I won't sign anything until after I see the others, but it is one cool pad.

House sounds nice -- good luck in finding/choosing a place.

The house sounds nice. Be prepared for relatively high electric bills wherever you land in that area. CA's rates are among the highest in the nation.
4 Starbucks within running distance? How long before you start running a loop that takes you by all 4?

I hope you get that house (or another cool sounding/looking one!) I love older houses with all the nooks & crannies (had one in college for a year) that you don't find in these modern ones.
4 Starbucks? Could that be like HIIT? Sprint to Starbucks, recover; sprint to next SB, recover... The Coffee Afficionados Workout? We could sell it on the internet! ($97 seems to be the going rate for everything these days!)
Safe travels!

I like the way you think, Brenda!
We can run a "one time only special" of 59.00.

I agree - sounds nice - and CA Electric will kill you anywhere in the state - make sure you have a new(ish) 'fridge as that can be a real electricity drain.

I hope the house turns out to be nice! It sounds awesome. I'm so jealous that you're moving to CA. I need to move back there some day. Last night on my way home from work I had to pull off the freeway to get gas in city of Detroit. In not a good neighborhood. I'm looking around thinking...what the hell am I doing living here?
I'm excited to see what your finishing numbers are with the SFM. Watch out Roland.

I've been to Detroit twice and both times have left me feeling that way and I don't have to stay there. The most recent time, dh & I were driving from the airport past all these burned out homes and junked cars on the interstate and wondering WTH? outloud.

I'm sure you know you're moving into earthquake country - it's easier to setup a house as earthquake resistant than to try to do it after all your stuff is in there. In a moderate quake, cabinet doors can open and contents will fly out, the fridge door may open and contents fly out, a range/washer/dryer/hot water heater may try to dance away from the wall, bookshelves can topple into the room if not attached to the wall, certainly the books can topple out, precious breakables can fly off the shelves that were displaying them, TVs can tip and fall, computers can fall - all of which are loads of fun to clean up after the fact and with the appliances can be hazards as well.
welcome to Cali

Brenda's trepidation is spot on. I got mugged in Detroit when I was a twenty-something... purse stolen right out of my car when I stopped for gas.
I chased the bastards down the street (did I mention that I was shit-faced at the time?) but didn't catch them.
Get yer butt back to N Cali, Jill! I need a permanent workout buddy.

Roland's right of course - we've just had lots of damage (small & bigger)from quakes in the family so we're a little over the top in terms of being prepared for the next one - that said, we don't think them about after getting prepared -
