What a great trip
You know, I never really think of myself as altruistic because I'm such a cynical bitch about most things.... but this trip was fantastic. The people we saw actually NEEDED to see a doctor, unlike many who normally come to my office with imaginary skin rashes and such. It was awesome, awesome, awesome. We stayed in a town called Taxco in the Mexican state of Guerrero then drove 2.5 hrs to Copacillo where 250 or so patients lined up starting at 430 AM, some coming from 7 hours away. Incredible.
Yesterday, I finally got a workout in:
Run 1.7 miles or so/15 mins
Horizontal push:
Bench press bar plus 20kgx5, +30kgx5/5
My pounds to kilo conversion was in error, this is, what, approximately 2.2 lbs/kg? That would mean that I beat my last w/o in this rep scheme by 12 lbs
Core stuff:
SB roll outs 3x10
Dragon Flags 3x5
Miscellaneous other stuff:
DB squat/thrust 4kg ea x10, 8kg eax10/2
Scissor jumps 10x3
straight arm pullover (on lat pd machine): 20kgx10/3
lateral raise 4kg eax10/3
Done.
Food was truly difficult this trip; I had the choice of enchiladas, tacos, or nothing. Yesterday was a modified cheat day due to this, but I did manage to eat some choco truffles at breakfast.

2.2lbs = 1kg
Good job on the PR. Glad to hear your trip went well.

Hey Tina, sounds like you had a fantastic trip. Sometimes it's nice to be reminded of why we do things in life. I have a friend who is a pediatric cardiologist who does work in the Dominican Republic two weeks every year and comes back refreshed and rejuvinated.
Don't worry about being off track last week, today is a new start. Great workout by the way! Welcome back chica!

Taxco! I've been there! How much silver did you buy? I just remember how quaint and pretty the town was. We went to some old, old, old church in the square and then had pizza on a rooftop restaurant that was like being in someone's house. Pretty great stuff when you're 15! (oh and there were these birds that, for some reason, picked one guy in our group and used him for target practice ALL DAY!) I know we went into a silver mine and bought earrings for like 10cents. Are the streets still paved in stones?
Maybe it's ok to be more cynical in your "real world"when you know there are times when you can let that down and really do something for someone who really needs you. Great job Tina!

The old church in the square is still there (St Prisco? Something like that) and just unbelievable. All the streets are still cobblestones and all of the buildings are whitewashed--it seems like it's still the 1800s there, you know? No silver for me, although I did look for some.
Yes, my goody two shoes are hung up, Roland. I'm back in the midst of bullshit.
So, Jill, tell me about your refeed in Paris... mmmmm! I am jealous. The fruit was damned good in Mexico (only that which was peelable, but still--YUM), but the pain... ehh.
this morning:
HIIT elliptical 23 mins. Again, ehhh.

My refeed was good. I didn't really have a one-day BIG refeed as usual, I stretched it out over the three days I was there. However, I ate really well for the most part. I did indulge in some beautiful pain au chocolate as well as some kickass dark chocolates from an unbelievable chocolate shop. I had three delicious dinners and wine and champagne on a couple occasions. So, it was in control, but I enjoyed and didn't sweat the small stuff. I'm back on track today and feeling really good. No refeed hangover this week!
Oh, and the cheese....did I tell you about the cheese? Divine.

Mexico! Sounds pretty ... and nice to be doing good medical work ... I know what you mean about people with imaginary ailments ... if they could only see what real troubles are, you know?!
And nice job on the surprise PR!

Dammit, I just lost my post
OK--try again, over....beast like workout this morning, to commemorate this post number
Core rotational:
cable chops 12#x8-10/side x 3
bb swings 3x6/side
Box squats 5x5@115
Good mornings 5x5@85
Scissor jumps 5x5/leg
GHR 5x5 (tried to add a 5# db on a few sets but screwed my form up)
Also did a bunch of mobility shyte, shoulder work as well for a change.
I am looking leeeeean today ; last night I had veins all the way up to my shoulders and across my upper chest. Emergency IV access should NEVER be a problem for me . If I replace my camera, I will post pics this weekend.
Hi-ho, hi-ho... off to work I go. Gahh.

I should be able to comply with your request this weekend
My camera is, unfortunately, at the Advantage rental car counter in Mexico City--I hope.
This morning:
Run 3 miles/27:45 in a nice little spotty drizzle. It was marvelous.

Nice to do something where you are really needed. My wife is going to Bolivia in September on a medical mission. I hope she finds it as rewarding as you found your medical mission.

I have heard great things about Bolivia in re: medical missions; several docs I know have gone there and raved about it. She should pack snacks though--the eating schedule leaves something to be desired
Today's workout: horizontal push
Well, there is something to ignorance and bliss.... I was unable to achieve anything close to my PR from the weekend on the bench press:
BB bench 5x5@85,95,92.5/3
Something about KNOWING what I'm lifting, I guess.
Explosive BB UL shoulder press 55x8,10,10
Explosive BB UL row 55x8/3
This was using the BB in the holder thing, like you would use for BB swings.
BB curl oly barx6,7,7
DB tricep extension/pullover 10x10/3
Floor wipers 15# barx12, 25# barx16/2
hard to describe the tri exercise, but it essentially works the piss out of them by putting the start position like a french press but waaaay behind the head, toward the floor.
And those floor wipers are awesome!
Jumped rope for 6 mins; did some fancy arm cross things today and was looking all Rocky-esque. Fun workout.

Sounds like a fun workout Tina. Are you following any plan right now or just going with what sounds good?

El Diablo trainer has me on a four day split of 5x5 for the power movement and 3x8-10 for 3-4 other ancillary things, plus core work alternating between frontal plane movements on one day and rotary the next. It's a horizontal/vertical push/pull split, so basically Hpush, Vpush, Hpull, Vpull or something like that. I'm using bench for Hpush, deads for Vpull, squats for Vpush, and rows or pulls for Hpulls. It might not be exactly the plane of movement, but it's close enough for government work.
It's fairly flexible; I am planning to switch the big moves every 3-4 weeks. I also have some sort of explosive move in there almost every workout which should help with my oly lifting as well, although this jacked up shoulder alignment doesn't help matters. I am actually doing my I/O again, started today so hopefully will get back into normal human anatomical alignment someday...
