Great idea, Nick. It is easier to conquer goals when they are smaller and more frequent, instead of conquering one massive goal. There is a variation of goal-setting using a 1/3/9 pattern - for every one long-term goal, set three smaller monthly or quarterly goals that helps reach the big goal, and then set 3 even more frequent goals or tasks for each intermediate goal. Keep up the good work.

Thanks!
I have the attention span of a gnat, so focusing primarily on long term goals doesn't help me. This way, I can make measurable--hopefully--progress, and break it into much more manageable chunks. It will keep my head in the game as well.

Monday January 8
Foam Rolling/Stretching/Mobility work
Front Squats
4x6 @ 135
I wasn't feeling it on these at all. Felt like 300 lbs. Weird.
DB Split Squats
3x8 @ 40 (EH)
Almost fell over on the first set with my left leg out in front. I didn't get that either. I had gotten a lot better balance-wise.
Buchberger 12 Day 2
Planks
2x50 seconds
Swiss Ball Jacknives (how the hell is this spelled?)
2x10
Tuesday January 9
Foam Rolling/Stretching/Mobility work
Buchberger 12 Day 1
Pushups
3x15
Once again these were hard. I guess it's something about Day 1 that fries my shoulders. My shoulders are definitely fatigued--transferring all of the effort to my triceps during these.
Bent Over Rows
5x5 @ 185
Had to drive to school today to get a damn piece of paper signed. But I was there, got it done, and talked with who I needed to talk to. It's over. I can enjoy what's left of my break, although I'm almost ready to go back. Notsomuch to do school; but to get back into my own little world and life.

I honestly don't know yet. I make sure to stretch, foam roll, etc before every session, and that includes my hips and glutes. Yet my shoulders still click, and in some cases, are clicking more than before. But at the same time, they do feel stronger and more stable. So...... yeah, that sums it up. I was definitely hoping that I would see noticeable immediate improvement, but at the same time, I've really only been doing them for three weeks, so maybe I need to give it some more time.

Definitely give it more time ... I have unstable shoulders ... and even had surgery to repair my dominant shoulder ( thermal capsulorrhaphy). I found that it took many months, but after religiously doing my shoulder rehab exercises on both shoulders, I no longer have even considered the surgery for my non-dominant shoulder! In other words, it is finally STRONG!!! I have only minimal clicking with certain movements ... no more neck and upper trap pain ... and normal scapulo-humeral rhythm.

Have you ever had a "shoulder bubble?" (my completely unscientific term)
My left shoulder--again, I think it's from the slight rotator cuff tear when I was 18 that never healed or rehabbed properly. (I was told to let it rest for a couple of weeks and that was that. What a doctor, even though I had felt and heard an audible pop one night throwing; and couldn't throw a baseball pain free for 2 months.)
The bubble appears when I move my left arm up and down like a chicken wing. It goes over my clavicle, and doesn't hurt, and essentially looks like what it's described and is about the size of a dime. It feels like fluid somewhat when I catch it, if I can catch it.

About the middle on the front. the clavicle is the bone that runs diagonal on the chest below the neck, correct?

Diagonal? Well .... maybe ... more straight out to the top of your shoulder from the bottom of your throat ...
Not sure what that bubble could be ... maybe a tear in the muscle sheath (fascia) allowing the muscle to bulge through ... but that would be a strange location for that ...

Right on the clavicle just to the left of the two tissues going down from the clavicle. (as you're looking at the picture).
Thanks for your help!

Thursday January 11
Foam Rolling/Stretching/Mobility work
Deadlifts
5x5 @ 225
Push those hips forward! It actually felt light coming off the ground. Maybe these mobility exercises are onto something. Did my air humps first too.
Single Leg RDLs
3x12
Almost fell over doing these a few times; which is why I am doing them.
Buchberger 12 Day 2
Plank
1xmax
No idea, couldn't see a clock, went until I fell over
Swiss ball jacknives
2x12
Probably leaving for school tomorrow to miss the ice/snow/God's wrath this weekend. Whatever.

Hmmm ... there's really not a lot that attaches in that area of your clavicle ... your sternocleidomastoid comes down and attaches around there ... is it lateral to that? The anterior part of your deltoid kind of comes around there, but a bit more lateral ... could be part of that ... has your trainer or physician seen/felt it?

Great work on the deadlifts, Nick.
But, I think that falling over is your best exercise. LOL

It's more lateral to the sternocleidomastioid. Just comes up from the outside to the inside every time. I haven't mentioned it to my ART guy, although I really should have. I am also very surprised that he hasn't seen it when doing ART treatments on my shoulder.
John--yes, falling over is my best exercise. I am very good at that.

I'm fat.
Nothing yesterday.... the drive back took 3 hours instead of 2 because of the weather, and there was no way in hell I was leaving the house. Today.... some douchebag woke me up pounding on the door at 10:15. He was pissed that his girlfriend locked him out. Well...... that's the reason she was with me, she doesn't like you. (kidding, he really was pissed that he was locked out, but turned a terrible shade of red and got apologetic when he realized he had the wrong place). Then braved the weather to finish grocery shopping, went to the basketball game--I hate Missouri--and am now watching football. I have a massive pile of clothing to hang up, and I feel so fat from my wonderful--but somewhat healthy--meal of chicken and cheese quesadillas (whole wheat tortillas, biotch.)
I'm going to do something tomorrow evening. I don't know what, it may be running, it may be lifting, but it's going to be something.
And when I do my scapular retractions standing up, I noticed the bubble appearing today. It's been making regular appearances lately.
