Default Diary of a Small Planet II: The Omen

Something went haywire with my previous log, so we'll try this again!

9/19/06

Today I did 3 sets of 10 bw Squats
Upper Body Band Exercises emphasizing shoulders.
Lower Body Band Exercises.
Bridging.
Wheelchair pushups 3 x 10
The wall pushups are a little beyond my balance yet.

Went to see the surgeon today. He said everything is healing nicely. He couldn't help making a crack that my wife was pretty okay at looking at my foot to make sure everything is okay.

A little background. I was dying. My kidneys were failing. My heart was failing. My surgeon refused to come in for surgery because he was on a picnic. He was on call. He would not come in the next day either because he had church activities. My wife was liking a lion defending her cub. She read him the riot act. She told him what she thought of his brand of Chrisitianity. She ask him if he wanted off the case and he refused. So she got another Dr. who I now refer to as the Gunnery Sergeant and who the nurses at the hospital refer to as the Gunnery Sergeant. I don't know exactly what he said to the surgeon but he was in the hospital in ten minutes and I was on my way to surgery. Gunnery Sergeants make the world work. The rest of creation just needs to shut up and get out of their way.

By the way, my wife was nurse of the year last year and received recognition by both the state senate and state house. Twerp!

Uh, no sorry, I can't respond to an emergency because I have a souffle in the oven!

Will be watching your log with great interest!

Yeah, but I got great care there other than that. I was in the hospital for five weeks and the nurses and my other doctors (I wound up with six) were all super.

She has a face like an angel surrounded by curls so you would never guess it right off that she is so strong. One of my PT's described her as a nurse who took no crap but had an almost southern charm so that no one knew what she was doing until it was over.

Okay, back to rehab today.

Dumbbell Complex shoulder oriented:

Lateral Dumbbell Raise
Front Dumbbell Raise
Bent Over Dumbbell Raise
Dumbbell Upright Row
Dumbbell Curl and Press
5 - 1 reps

Lower Body Band Exercises
Single Leg Squats

This complex is harder than the first for me. Shoulders were really burning by the end. Sloppy on 2 reps and 1 rep.

Home PT was here. I showed her the dumbbell complex I was doing and she told me that I didn't need her anymore.

Greg,
I am sitting here kinda choked up at the fact that you have been through so much and now, here you are, posting a training log already. If that isn't motivational, I don't know what is. Get good and strong and kick some surgeon's ass.

I should point out that my wife, my pulmonary specialist and my infectious disease specialist saved my life. So they were all excellent.
As for logging, I need to keep on track. As for moving forward, once again, I have no other choice.

Workout:

Upper body:

Wheelchair pushups 3 x 10
Squats 3 x 10

Upper body theraband workout
Lower body theraband workout.

Need to get a black theraband.

Original dumbbell with 11 lb dumbbells.
Lower body theraband exercises.

Complex getting easier but jump is to 16.3 lb and I am not ready for that.
