My temporary leg was casted today. I will have to learn to walk all over again. In the room where my leg was casted there was a picture of a man sky diving with both legs replaced by prostheses. He also pilots a helicopter. Amazing!
Let's just say that I am not nearly graceful enough for wall pushups. I am not a big fan of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes which is how the man lost his legs in the first place. However, flying is a lot of fun and I wasn't sure I would be able to do that with a leg gone.
Today's workout:
Theraband upper body workout.
Theraband lower body workout.
Wheelchair pushups 3 x10
Walking with walker to build up balance and strength in hips.
I got the Better Body Blueprint by Mike Mejia. It addresses middle age beginning weight lifters and ex-jocks. My illness reduced me to a beginner stage and I am a middle aged ex-jock so it fits pretty well.
The book starts out with a diagnosis section and prescriptive exercises for weak spots. It then helps you put together proper routines for your fitness level, age and prior experiences. I found it fun to read and informative.
If you are starting out, you should consider it.
I'm with you... Even if I had wings, I don't think I'd want to jump out of an airplane. I'm glad to hear that you found a program that you feel good about.
Actually, it was a little tight but comfortable. I was amazed that I was able to stand and walk on it. I am sure that I will have to develop endurance and perfect my balance, but it went very well. I was very excited and my wife said I had a huge grin on my face the first time I stood. It felt great! They will make adjustments based on what Clay observed and the measurements he took. I should get it next week!
Dumbbell shoulder complexes with 11#.
Lower body theraband workout.
Wall pushups 2 x 10.
Get my temp leg Thursday at 12:15! I said tomorrow on another entry but checked my calendar.
Workouts are looking great, my friend.
You are in my prayers for a good fit on Thursday.
The term temp-leg gives me nightmares for obvious reasons. LOL
Good luck.

How about prospective leg? One of my legmen calls it that. I got the leg yesterday. I am not allowed to walk on it, but I am supposed to put it on and for increasingly long periods until next friday when I have physical therapy and can work on walking. They let me walk a little when I got it and I was surprised how natural it felt. I look forward to getting natural with it and then doing weight lifting with my legs.
As I said in another post my wife and I met a guy who has two artificial legs and we would not have known if he hadn't told me! That excited and inspired me.
Theraband upper and lower body workout. I need to get a stronger band. I have begun walking a little as I described in an earlier post in the training section. I am getting comfortable in my leg. I think that when I begin normal workouts with lower body work, I will have to do the lower body work as bodyweight for a while so I don't wreck whats left of my right leg. I possibly could do something like a box squat with moderate weight though.
Today I did the shoulder complex with my 11# dumbells + 1lb wrist weights. I don't have anything to go from 11 to 12 or 13# but I needed a little more weight. I wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.
I also did a lower body theraband workout. I had to make myself do it and was pissed off because I have to take off my leg to do the theraband workout at this time. Just a phase though.
I did theraband upper and lower body workouts. I was doing squats and testing my balance on one leg and I have discovered my one legged center of gravity. I am working on my two legged center of gravity.
