TG's PT Cert and Gym Comeback Log
OK..let's try this again. I'm tired of doing log after log only to let myself down because my body won't seem to hold up. Now that I'm slowly coming off of each RA med, I am feeling more myself. I still have plenty of joint pain to go around, but I'm not dealing with all of the side effects of all of the drugs. I'm working with 2 doctors to figure out what exactly is going on with my body, but I can't just keep putting everything off for it. I'm going to go through all of the TT programs I have, and decide which one is best for me. I'm going to start slow and with a beginner's program (it's been 9 months since I've been able to lift!) Also, I purchased Magnificent Mobility and I will incorporate that into my program as well (can't wait for that to arrive!)\
Thanks to a friend , I have also definitely decided to move forward with my personal trainer certification. I am very excited and can't wait to help others reach their goals! I am going through ACE for my cert. I see this as a stepping stone to my career. I already know I've learned more from everyone here than I can from any textbook. Thing is, I have tons more to learn! So I'll be reading, reading, reading! If anyone has any advice to offer, go ahead and give it to me
I will start at the gym on Monday, but I'm going to begin studying this weekend..woohoo!!

Good luck on the next phase of your journey, I'll be watching with interest and a little encouragement where needed. But you've definately got enough drive on your own.

Thanks everyone! After "talking" with Lisa this morning, I have decided to switch gears slightly and go for the NSCA-CPT instead of ACE. It seems to be the better cert and even though I have studied some of the ACE stuff already, it still seems worth it to switch. So I'm off to Ebay to sell my ACE materials, and then place my order with NSCA
Thanks again Lisa for your help!

Glad you followed Lisa's advice!!!
Great choice TG, smart girl! I have been ready (I think) for a while, just haven't been able to go to the US at a convenient date for the exam. I am signing up for April 7, since it's the closest date available near my in-laws. The NSCA materials are excellent and you'll love the learning process. If you have an ipod, throw all the CDs on there so you can listen to them when you are on the go, that has helped me a lot.

Since you and Galya will both be studying for the NSCA-CPT exam at the same time, you can be a source of support and encouragement for each other. It's always more enjoyable to have someone to share the experience with!
TG, have you chosen a date for your test yet?

Good idea with the ipod Galya...I may just have to do that.
Lisa, I was looking at the exam schedule and for the locations closest to me, it would be February 3rd. I could try for December 2nd, but I'd have to travel a little bit for that one. May go for the Feb one just to give myself a little extra time and to make sure I feel completely confident with the material.

TG, don't know if I missed it. But, are you going to look for a job at a gym before the exam? Seems like a lot of the more commercial gyms want to train you a bit, anyway. Not that 24 Hour is all that, but they've always got signs looking for people "to be trained" in training.

Not sure LD. The closest gym near me, and probably where I would end up working is a Y (also where I train). They are not hiring at the moment but I am going to keep in touch with some contacts there and let them know my plans

Does the Y allow outside trainers, or do you have to work for them?
