Default The New Rules Of JennMedic!

Ok so today I started Fatloss 1. All I can say is this- I was sweating and it got my blood pumping. I love it!!! Only problem is I have discovered that my back is still not 100% from my accident with a moron! So I did my best and I'm not sure what to do about tomorrow but we'll see. I need to make some adjustments on weight until the back is better. Some things need to go a lot lower Oh well! Todays w/o :

Workout A1

supersets with full rest (75 secs)

A1&2
squats- 95lbs/15; 115lbs/15; 115lbs/15
Cable rows-80lbs/15; 80lbs/15; 80lbs/15

B1&2
Supine hip extensions- 35lbs/15; 35lbs/15; 35lbs/15
Db push press- 25lbs/10; 25lbs/10; 25lbs/10

C1&2
lunges- 25lbs/15; 25lbs/15; 25lbs/15
Crunches- 50lbs/15; 50lbs/15; 50lbs/15

Ok so here's the deal. The squats were hard, on my legs and on my back. Why it hurt my back I have no idea! I had a trainer watch my form, no problem there. So I am at a loss There were no 20lbs db's left for my push press so I did less reps with 25lbs. Forget the rotation on lunges with my back hurting and forget trying the swiss ball too. I am very unhappy with the way today turned out. I need to workout but I'm not sure where to go from here. This sucks All from someone else's stupidity!

Jenn- I look forward to hearing about your progress, as I just ordered NROL. Sorry to hear about your accident, but of course there is no better way to take out your frustrations than in the gym! Making the commitment is your 1st step towards recovery.

Too bad your back's still sore. I was hoping you'd be all better by now.

If your back is sore, even perfect form can make it hurt. Is is sore, like muscle soreness or from there being "something wrong?" Maybe front squats would be better for a while. More upright stance.

I'm sure leaving the ball and rotations out of those last two aren't really going to effect the fat loss aspects much.

Good Luck with the new workout hopefully you will have as much luck with it as Mahler. He liked it so much that he is going into one of the programs for a second time. Sorry about the back I can sympathize as I am trying to nurse a bum knee until my running season is over.

Look forward to reading your log, Jenn! The back thing... is it like muscle pain, or is it actually the spine? You may want to have it looked at to make sure it's not something serious like a herniated disk... that would really suck!

Thanks everyone. I know it is not spinal, I'm not sure what is going on with it but it is muscular I think. I'll post a pic of where the pain is, maybe someone will have idea of what I could do to help it get better. I'm sad.

Happy to see your new log! Sorry to hear the back is still bothering you. It sounds like you are planning to do 4 workouts a week - is that right? If so, maybe you should consider scaling back to 2 or 3. That way you still get to work out, but you will reduce the back strain.

You know that I started Fat Loss I last week. I only did each workout once last week and I'm doing the same this week. Next week, I'll start 3 workouts per week, alternating A and B. I'm not sure if or when I would do 4 per week. But, that's just me.

I know it's hard to see your own back, but you should get that red rectangle checked out!

Jenn...wanted to wish you luck About your back....not sure if I can help a whole lot...does your back only hurt during the exercises? Did it hurt after the accident and before you started this program today? How long ago was the accident? Lastly, you may want to post about it in the injuries section and see what Bill has to say if it continues. Good luck girl!

Hey TG ok here are the answers to your questions.
My back hurts during exercise and the pain is usually gone by the next morning.
It hurt for a few days after the accident and hadn't bothered me really since.
The accident was almost three weeks ago, I used heat and advil to help ease the pain.
It feels more like an ache right now, but when I was lifting it was the kind of pain that makes you wonder if you can complete the motion you are doing. The first thing I thought of was "Wow I wonder if this is how old people feel when they try to get up from sitting?"
I thought about asking Bill about this but I don't want to bug him. I'm thinking of trying to re work the workout a little so there is less stress on my back. Crossing my fingers and advil don't seem to be doing the trick, nor has a taking three weeks off. I wonder if taking that much time was a bad idea and I should have may be worked through it. Who knows!

If the squats hurt, swap for something that doesn't put weight on your back, but keeps it in the hands. DB squats, for instance...

Or, DB split squats (not bulgarian ones). The normal ones. Since it's one leg at a time, you won't need as much weight.
