Lauren the 50 pull-ups were mixed in with the push-ups and squats. I did 10 rounds of 5-10-15 giving me 50 total pull-ups, 100 push-ups and 150 squats.

My shoulder held up pretty well, but my intensity wasn't very high - 10 rounds of "Cindy" in 37 minutes; 10 rounds in half of that time should be a picnic. My chest is a little sore now, but that is it - push-ups have always been my biggest enemy.

GG, I am trying to avoid a canned program, unless it is something that someone here puts together and wants me to try out.

Greg, that looks good, but I don't have a great way to load GHR, so I will probably do 3x(Max reps) - maybe I will try hands behind head rather than on hips?

This reminds me of those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books I read when I was a kid. Very fun. BTW, to echo everyone else, 5 liters of pop?!?!?

Push-ups are hard for me, too. When I did the Tabata workout last Friday, I crashed really quickly on those, and my chest was sore as hell for two days. More sore than after bench press PR's! It makes me think I should do push-ups all the time.

Murph after tacos and DP sounds like you're pledging Delta house there at VaTech.

I'm with Dave on this one- just reading that nearly made me spew.

Guess I need to know how your shoulder is doing after today to gauge something for you.

Greg, good call on the cleans and rows.

I loved the chooes your own adventure books, but they were always offlimits when it came to book reports.

My chest is pretty sore right now, about 24 hours post workout. High rep tabata-type work is much more likely to cause soreness than max-effort lifting; PR attempts don't hurt me at all.

I sure felt that way.

My shoulder is feeling good, maybe I am in the clear?

Thursday, Sept 7, 2006
Weight: 207

Clean
115(50kg)x3
137(60kg)x3
159(70kg)x3
181(80kg)x1
192(85kg)x1
203(90kg)x1
214(95kg)x1
225(100kg)x1
236(105kg)x1

Bent-over Row
135x8
185x8
185x8
185x8

GHR
(bw)x10
(bw)x2F hands on head
(bw)x8

Today was much less embarrassing than yesterday. I didn't seem to loose too much strength during my off time. 105 either ties or comes real close to my previous PR for a full clean. So I hope I can gut that up a little higher for some new records soon. The rows were tough, but I fought through them. I did all right on the GHRs I normally do them with my hands on my hips, but tried with my hands on my head for the second set. That was significantly harder and only got 2 reps plus a very long iso trying to grind out the third. I went back to hands on hips style for my last set.

Now I need to cut some weight.

I joined a soccer league that starts this weekend, so I don't want to kill my legs right before my first game; likely Saturday, but maybe Sunday. But other than that I am feeling good and ready for my next workout.

I'll jump on the bandwagon... FIVE liters of pop!!? Let's see, at 400 calories per liter that's 2000 calories, and about 65 grams of sugar. Wow. That's a feat in itself.

Does that mean running is out?? If not, what about a sprint/HIIT workout... 14 to 20 100 meter sprints with 30 second rest intervals.

Here's one for you...if your shoulders will hold out. Quality over Quantity (http://www.rosstraining.com/articles...rquantity.html) .

I did 5 rounds in 17 some odd minutes. I'm sure you'd be able to smoke that time.

Friday I played volleyball and the soreness slowed me down to a comedic level. I decided that it would be best to take it easy till my soccer game. Which unfortunately got moved back to Sunday evening. So Saturday was all rest and Sunday was my game which was a pretty good spring/interval type effort. We completly dominated the other team.

I think I am going to stay away from burpees for a little while longer. I think I will save Dave's sprint workout for Tuesday, in hopes of getting in the gym after volleyball today?

Well now you have to do the sprints plus 500 Burpees for skipping it all weekend! :p

How many times per week do you have soccer games? You'll be pretty busy with volleyball and soccer alone!

Soccer is only once a week, either Friday, Saturday or Sunday. There are no Saturday games when there is a Virginia Tech home football game. This week my game is Friday. I don't mind working out ahead of time, but I don't want to feel totally trashed like I did last Friday. I will most likely be over the pain by the end of this week. Volleyball happens a lot, heading out now to play, but I don't think it will happen with any seriousness or need to be 100% for quite a while.

Weight: 207

Deadlift
225 x 5
315 x 5
365 x 3
405 x 1
455 x 1 + F (PR)

I wanted to save my sprints for tomorrow, so today I decided to get in and do some heavy deadlifts. Luckily I found some chalk laying around the gym. I really ought to buy my own I guess. I started to load 415 rather than 405, but wasn't sure where I would go from there, so I adjusted to 405. That went up pretty well, and not feeling like messing with adding 2, 10s on each side I added the 25s - this would be a new PR attempt. I had a very small audience of someone waiting for a spot on his next squat set, and I got it to go. It was tough, and the guy watching said that he didn't think it was going to go; and I will admit that it wasn't pretty but it went. Of course, my deadlifts are never pretty. I gave it another attempt and got it off the ground, but new best not to try to fight that attempt up.

5 hour drive isn't too bad, but I looked at the online training program, and there wasn't a 3 week option. Plus I am already in late registration. I may try to get in a long run this week to see how it goes, but I really don't think I am or will be in a condition for a half-marathon in 3 weeks. You should have given me a heads up about a month ago. But things like this always interest me.

I am going to try to talk dave into coming to Blacksburg for a 1/2 marry trail run on October 14, doesn't that sound like fun? I think it woulud be much better for him than a 50k in the midst of marathon training. Of course Chattanooga is a lot closer to him than Blacksburg.

Way to go on the deadlift PR!! Next time, please struggle for a few weeks before hitting a new PR after a long period of time off so everyone else doesn't look bad.

I think it is all of that Type IIB muscle conversion that occurs while sitting on the couch I have lost quite a bit of conditioning but my strength is doing ok. I am up about 12 pounds, but I don't expect that to be too hard to shed; and I doubt those pounds are helping my strength a whole lot.

What pace should I be running these 100m sprints at?
