Glad to hear you enjoyed your last run -- you deserved it! I hope your training goes as well this weekend too. Only one more week until your race, right?

Saturday May 5 Scheduled 7 mile run. 49 degrees with a 10 mph wind and a slight drizzle. I was pschyed for todays run as it is the last run of any distance until my race. I thought I was going to end up overheating a little as I was wearing a windreaker because of the rain and a ball cap. When I turned the corner for the 4 mile mark I was glad I had the jacket as the wind got fairly brisk. I think the off time has been helping as I felt pretty strong all the way to the finish off this run. I think I had a few more miles in me when I finished even though I was getting pretty warm. I tried eating a few lifesavers on the run and it seemed to help. At least mentally I didn't have the negative thoughts (I think I can't, I think I can't, I know I can't)that had been haunting my last several long runs. Hopefully I will feel this good next Saturday and pull off a decent effort. 7 .02 miles in 1:37:40.

Thanks Jeff, yes my run is next week Saturday in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. http://www.eagleriver.org/journeys.asp

I had my last long run today, too. I think there's a reason they shorten up your last long run on those training plans. Mine felt good, too. At this point, we're trained. It's more important to wrap up on a good note. Now it's all taper, baby

Monday May 7, 4:15 PM Sunny and 72 with 13 mph winds Scheduled 3 Miles. It's the first day of Taper Baby. A nice gentle easy 3 mile jaunt. If someone would have told me a year ago that I would think a 3 miler was easy even pleasant I would have thought that the were loony. Even with the wind I trimmed 1 minute plus off of this same run from last Thursday. 3.28 miles in 43:38. Starting Wednesday I get to start increasing my carb intake for carbo loading. God I love this taper stuff now if you just wouldn't have to run all those miles ahead of time to get here.

Dee you are right having a good outing on that last long run really changed my mindset back from "Just get it done" to "I think you can do this".

Tuesday May 8, 5:00 AM Scheduled Lifting Session Skipped the warm up today because its taper week and I can.

Straight Set with 90 seconds rest

DB Flat Bench Press 12@50# 6@75# 6@75# 6@75# 6@75#

Squat position cable Row 12@175# 12@175# 12@175#

Push Presses 8@95# 8@95# 8@95# 8@95#

Reverse Cable Flys 8@35# 12@30# 12@30#

Overhead Cable Tri Extensions 12@100# 12@105# 12@105#

Standing DB Cable Curls Alternating 12@35# 12@35# 12@35#

I was able to bump up the weight on the cable rows and the tri extensions this week. The increase on the cable flys was due to a change in machines not mutant strength gains.

Enjoying the taper? Any taper madness yet?

Days like you had on Monday are what making running all those other days worth it! To be able to get out, clear your mind of stress and enjoy a beautiful day is something most people don't experience.

I don't know if it is taper madness or race anxiety. I find myself constantly worrying about little race day details. What should I eat? When should I eat it? Go as far as I can running or throw in some early walk breaks? At least I am pretty busy this week at work so I can fret over it too much. Right now I just can't wait for Saturday.

lol. Don't change anything you've been doing. You've put in the training; trust it and enjoy yourself. I'm looking forward to hearing about it!

Thursday May 10 4:00 AM Scheduled 3 mile run 49 degrees with no wind. I was slated to do this last night but I got out of work late and had to go out for Mexican with my Sister and her Son for his birthday so I moved it to this morning. I ran the same course as Monday but seemed to lose a few minutes somewhere. I didn't do any stretching and I had just woke up so maybe that had something to do with it. The last mile I was also struggling with an internal issue which was not helping. 3.28 miles in 45:31. Only 2 more miles and 49 hours to race time.

Note to self no Mexican before running.

Jim thanks for the advice, I know that is what i need to do and hopefully it all works. Just like the whole Star Wars thing I guess I just need to trust the force. So my goal is to just relax, enjoy the scenery and be entertained by the other runners and a new load of tunes on the MP3 player. Oh yeah and finish before they close the course.

kmwest swears by it.

I forgot what you told me. Are you going up there tomorrow and spending the night or driving there in the morning?

I will be leaving on Friday AM so I will be nice and relaxed for the run. I will drive the course Friday when I get up there and run the last 2 miles of the course just to get a feel for the finish.

Well, in that case, I want to say good luck and have a great time in case I don't catch you between now and tomorrow.

Thanks Guys I am out of work for 9 days. Hopefully it won't take me that long to recover. If I am not too tired (or too drunk) I will post a race report late Saturday from Eagle River.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

Hey Gregg - have a great race and trip. Of course you CAN!! Don't worry too much about the race - I'm sure you will do fine with all of the training you have put in. Definitely don't change your eating/drinking much from anything you did prior to longer runs in training.

Don't know if you'll read this before you go, but have a great race! We'll trade race reports later.
