Thanks Jeff and the good Lord willing that will be the last time I run any farther than 4 on that damn track. If I ran faster it might not be so bad.

Thursday March 8 4:00 PM Scheduled 5 Mile Run Beautiful Day 34 Degree's and Sunny. Trying a new course today that is tougher at the start nice easy middle and a moderate hilly finish. Everything was going well up until the 2.5 mile mark when some lady pulling out of a gas station nudged me with her Frickin Soccer Mom Van. She looked my direction several times but my svelt 210# stature must have escaped her. Thankfully she was just pulling out to get a better line of site or we might have had a problem. A half mile farther and my abs started aching. It wasn't to bad at the start but after another half mile it really started to bother me After a brief walk I started running and as soon as I did the ache came back. At first I thought I might have pulled something when I twisted to push off of the mini van but later thought that it might just have been the effects of the morning core workout. I finished out with just 2 brief walks at a time of 1:05:54 a full 1:14 of my best for this distance but back then it was warmer and I didn't have to play bumper cars. Not to bad it is starting to come back SLOWLY but surely.

Actual Distance 5.02 Miles.

Default First 7 Miler

Saturday March 10 11:00 AM Scheduled 7 Mile Run. Sunny and 47 Degrees with 14 mph winds. It was very icy this morning with all of the recent meltoffs so I ran a little later and was I happy I did. It was absouletely beautiful day for a run. I was very comfortable in just shorts and a long sleeve tee, I didn't even need gloves. This was the first time that I had run this course for 7 miles but the first part I have used for a 5 and a 6 mile run before. It seemed like the first 2 miles went without notice and when I turned to head West into the 1st uphill section of the run it got pretty breezy. Fortunately the hills seemed to be knocking some of the wind down. When I made my next turn to head Northeast and pass my 4 mile mark the wind was at my back and I was still feeling pretty comfortable. I thought I actuall had a chance to finish with out any walks and that seemed to pull me up the last really hilly part of the run. Everything went well untill my hamstrings started to tighten slightly around the 6.5 mile mark but by then unless I all out cramped I didn't think that would be a problem. I made the last short hill with plenty of juice and the last 2 blocks down hill felt like a victory lap. I finally did it 7 whole frickin miles and no walking in 1:30:45. This was roughly 3 minutes faster than I ran 6.5 miles in last fall. This couldn't have come at a better time as the crap runs I have been having recently with 4's and 5's had me questioning what I was going to do when the mileage started getting up there. This is very encouraging for my training and it could not have come at a better time. Next week 8 Miles

You are correct Dave, just trying to get on a busy street in rush hour while yelling at your kids would not be challenge enough for Super Soccer Mom.

Nice run. It's always great to hit these milestones. Running 90 mins without walking is pretty awesome, and to do it faster than a shorter distance previously shows you're making some great gains.

Can't wait to hear how the 8 miler goes next week!

I'm a bit late but I saw your post in the Team One running log. Congrats! That is an awesome acheivement. I continue to be impressed and inspired by the way to stick to the running, even through the cold winter, and it seems like it is really paying off for you!

Thanks everybody the encouragement and advice that I get from all of you here is greatly appreciated. Just knowing that I would have to log in here and say I failed is often all I need to keep going.

Monday March 12 3:00 PM 58 degrees sunny with 15 mph winds. Today is even nicer than Saturday was for a run. I threw on shorts a sleeveless tee and was just loving the sunshine. Oh yeah I am supposed to be running and running isn't fun. I remembered that after the first 1.5 miles which is mainly uphill. It got a little easier after I started to head east into the downhill portion of the run. Other than jumping puddles I actually enjoyed this downhill stroll. The last mile got tough as I was running uphill and into the wind but I still finished it out with no walking. Final time of 49:11 for 4.04. This was a minute + off of my PB of 47:43 from last fall for 4 miles. Although when I checked my old 4 mile course on mapmyrun I found out it was only 3.97 miles and had fewer hills. Between that and bumping up my running schedule this week so I can get my long run in on Friday (NCAA Badgers play at 1:55) I was pretty happy with the effort. No walking to treks in a row Wooo Hooo. I might be able to swap the snail for a turtle pretty soon.

Thanks again Jim. It just amazes me how important of a tool this log has become to my running. Never had a problem getting motivated to lift but running is like work to me and be accountable here does keep me on track or at least on the road.

Wednesday March 14 4:05 AM scheduled 5 Mile Run. 58 degrees with a light breeze. I wanted to do this after work but they are calling for dropping temperatures all day and rain. Nothing interesting happening with the exception of a cop who circled back several times to see if I was up to no good or maybe he thought I needed medical assistance. Not having the few breaks for traffic that I would normally get during an afternoon run plus being in the dark made this run a little tougher than my previous 2 outings. I was happy that this made my 3rd trek in a row with no walking breaks. Hopefully I can keep the streak going with my 8 miler Friday. Final distance 5.09 miles in 1:06:46. Now that I have finished this distance again I know I can push harder on the down hills to cut some time.

Thursday March 15 5:30 AM Scheduled Lifting Session

Straight Sets with 90 seconds rest

Incline DB Bench 15@40# 8@60# 8@60# 8@60#

CG High Cable Pulls with 2 second hold 12@112.5# 12@117.5# 12@117.5#

Seated Arnold Press 12@35# 12@40# 12@40# PB of 5# @ 40#

DB Tri Extensions 12@45# 12@45# 12@45#

Standing BB Curls 12@60# 12@70# 12@70#

Standing Oblique Crunch With Weighted Bar 15 Ea @15# 15 Ea @15# 15 Ea @15#

Since I have been focusing on my running more I feel like I am going through the motions lifting. I am stilll trying to push (or pull) heavier weights but I just don't feel the rush that I used to get after a good lifting session. Now I seem to get that from hitting new running goals.
