For my HIITs I use my .mp3 player. I recorded friends' voices telling me when to start, how much time there is left to the interval, and to the recovery.. so I can really concentrate on doing my max. sprint. For longer intervals it wouldn't matter that much, although it's VERY pleasant, not to have to check the time. But for my 15 sec/ 90 secs I really need it.

Run
Distance: 4 miles
Time: 45 minutes
Went with a guy from work for a lunchtime run. Alternated between running and walking...very warm and humid here, so sweated buckets. Ready for a nap...

Fin,
If only I could be as motivated as you when it comes to cardio, the walk to and from University (40mins each way) does it for me; sooo boring!
Great job!

Rest Day
Well, all work and no rest has made fin's knee really sore!
Just when I was getting back into running, I've apparently overdone it again. My knee has really bothered me today. Looks like I won't be running or doing squats until at least Friday.

So he can't hear me ring my bell as I ride up behind him on the MUP?
Not that it seems to matter where I live I passed like 10 pedestrians ringing my bell like a lunatic tonight, none of them turned to see, or really moved until I was right on them. I am sure they will bitch about those damn cyclists too!
ANYHOW!
Do you have problem doing the QUADs in a small gym? Or are you the only one who uses it?
Take care of the knee man!
Og.

Easy Swim
800 meters total - my knee hurt while kicking unless I really focused on keeping it stiff as a board.
What happened? Late Tuesday and all day yesterday, it was swollen around the knee cap and there was intermittent sharp pain while walking or when going down stairs. It's either 'runner's knee' or the beginnings of osteoarthritis (not confirmed by a doctor). I've had problems off and on with the knee since I was a teenager and bad, arthritic knees are common in my extended family. Most likely, I shouldn't be running at all and I guess I've overdone it in the last few weeks. Add to that all the squats and lunges with HGM and you get one aggravated ( ) knee.
I use ice almost always after running. And I iced it last night for 10 minutes or so. The knee is wrapped in an ACE bandage right now and I'm under the influence of ibuprofen, so it's felt OK today.
Og - my gym is small but not that busy, so I've not really had too many problems doing the HGM quads.
I plan on lifting tomorrow, but will need to axe the squats and lunges. Should I substitute anything in?

Finboy I hope your knee gets better fast. Let it heal up good before you get back into squats and such. I can't think of anything off hand that would work in lieu of those exercises for HMG. I would just take a good rest week and see what your doctor says. Good luck and hope it heals fast.

Nice workout Finboy. How is your knee feeling?? Hope it heals up fast, and when you go back to squats etc take it easy. Nice to see someone else doing the reverse crunches, are you doing them weighted?? Take care

Scott, how exactly do you do your reverse crunches? I was formerly doing them on one of those ab benches with the leg locks, by grabbing the post on the top of it... but we don't have a bench like that at my gym at home here.
By the way, hope the knee starts to get better soon.

No, you're correct. What I'm saying is that I use the decline bench for my reverse crunches. That way I have something solid to hold onto while I use a 20-lb DB between my feet...
What I'm asking is, how do I do reverse crunches without that bench for grabbing onto? (short of lying on the floor and grabbing the squat rack...)

ok whew.. I can tell you what I do and then you'll have afew different ways to do them once Fin tells us how he does his..
I lay on the floor with my arms straight down to the sides, put a 60lbs dunbell between my legs at the knees on my shins and crunch from there. So far it has worked great. Or I extend my arms straight up over my head and put them against the wall if I can find a spot that is free.
