Default My first log

Thought I would start posting my workouts. Don't expect consistency with me posting, but I'll do my best. Without further ado

Weight ~180lbs
Height 5'9"

Dynamic Mobility/Warmup

bodyweight squats x10
modified lunge x6/leg
spiderman pushup x3/side

repeat once more.

inchworm x5

modified lunge was done with a rotation to each side with emphasis on hip flexor stretch

spiderman pushup was performed by bringing knee up to elbow or as high as possible in the "plus" position

workout

Olympic Squats

225lb x1,2,3:1,2,3:1,2,3

these were done using the ladder method. not too hard, felt pretty good. next workout I'll bump it up to 230 or 235?

Hammer Strength Free Motion Shoulder Press

80lbs x3x3r

I am so weak in upper body exercises it's pathetic. used to be able to do pullups with 2 fingers now I can barely get a double with a supinated grip. i actually have cubital tunnel syndrome so hopefully I can get that cleared up. it sux as it kinda uncomfortable/burning to be typing this

Standing cable row

~30lbsx2x6r/side

kinda like this movement.

that's all folks. nothing exciting or fancy. diet sux btw, so don't ask

So what's your diet like Chris?:p It's getting easier for me to understand why diet is key. You think you work out a lot and...but it all seems to come down to what you eat.

Keep up the posting. I noticed a lot of people including every single thing they ate in their log. Maybe try it and see if it helps. I don't know...I'm still thinking about starting a log myself. Until then, I'll pop in on some people and get ideas, offer encouragement, etc...Good luck!

yeah, i don't have a problem eating right per se. it's just eating often enough. due to my job, it's hard to take a quick break to go eat. due to the fact that i'm in sales and work on commission, I need to be there. know what i'm saying? no one to blame but myself though.

Thnx regarding the Front Squats. I "tried* 275 a few weeks and almost literally passed out. Fun day lol

Thanks Buster. Personally, I think my DL sucks. I did 315x2 a few weeks ago and it wasn't bad. My problem is with my grip on my left hand. Heck with "normal" grip strength, I know I can rip 405 off the ground in under 6 weeks. Oh well, I'll make due for right now.

Chris ,don't compare your #'s to mine or anyone else's. Lou, talks about that in NROL. Just eat as big and clean as you can and keep pushing around as much iron as you can and you'll start seeing the #'s you want. The problem with getting to where you want to be is when you get there you won't be satisified. That's the way you and me and everyone else on this forum is.:p

I don't recall comparing my numbers to anyone lol. I don't have time to get hung up on that. It's a personal battle within myself...knowing that I can do something but can't. Hopefully I'll get the soft tissue work done at the end of the month.

Forgot I posted in your log lol. You didn't offend or disrespect btw. I'm envious of everyone's bench numbers lol. Due to this little injury or dysfunction whatever you wanna call it...I am a bit envious. Which is kinda good, cause it causes me to push a bit harder of my squats and deadlifts.

From what the orthopedic surgeon said, I have cubital tunnel syndrome. Something like the nerve that passes underneath the elbow has slipped out of it's groove. Compression on it..causes tingling, burning, weakness. It doesn't hurt but it affects my workouts and when I type. Like right now, as I'm typing this I can feel a burning/numbing sensation starting to build up in my forearm. Just more of an inconvenience more than anything. It's not like I can't function or anything. I will not opt for surgery as people who have had the same surgery are still having problems, one actually has it worse now. I will exhaust all other options before I even seriously consider surgery.

Chris, I was just curious because I'm a surgical scrub nurse and I specialize in orthopedics. The doc's that I work for see this alot more so in younger guys that train hard than in the general population of guys that don't. What has your doc suggested for you. Injections? Physical therapy?

He wanted to do surgery and then have me do rehab 2-3 times a week. I decided not to go with it. He just made it sound so simple describing the surgery procedure. I actually exchanged emails with a chiro who strongly recommended that I do not have the surgery as people he know's who have had it done still suffer if not more.

Chris, have you gone to another ortho guy for a secong opinion? Unfortunately most times this condition doesn't get better by it self. I don't know if this chiro guy is a friend or not but I would be hesitant to put alot of trust in a spine guy when it comes to my elbow joint. What he said is true in some cases, those cases being someone that is usually a good bit older with a slower recocery time, patients that are non-compliant with rehab, smokers, etc. Have you gone to the injury forum and tossed the question to Bill H?.I know this is non of my business so if you want just blow this post off. just trying to help and give other options to think about. Good Luck man, sincerely hope you get better.

Bill is the one who actually recommended that I get some ART. I was thinking about that before I emailed him, but just wanted to get some sort of "confirmation" so to speak. I emailed the chiro and said he has seen numerous cases very similar to mine and is very confident he can help me out. According to his website he is an elite or at the highest level you can get in ART. Certified in sports biomechanics, member of the PGA Tours
Sports Medicine Team. Chiro to the Dallas Desperados and works for the NHL/Dallas Stars and has worked with athletes from the NBA,NFL,AFL,MLB,PGA,NHL and National level track and field athletes. So, I think I will be in good hands lol.

Another great workout today.

Dynamic warmup/mobility circuit x2

Squat

235x1,2,3;1,2,3;1,2,3
pretty easy

Barbell Lunge

65x2x8/leg

couldn't seem to keep my hips squared when my right leg was the lead/working leg. definitely need some tissue work there

cable row

50x3x8r

weird thing..I don't know if the weight is in lbs or kilo's. too embarrassed to ask lol

kneeling lat pulldown

worked up to 60x1x8r

overall, a very good workout. I'm happy

Your squats are looking killer man. Also sounds like your guy knows what he's talking about. Best of luck.

Thanks. Squats felt really great. Averaged about 90 sec rest between sets. I think I'm really going to enjoy this ladder method. Everytime I achieve all 3 ladders then I'll bump up the weight by 5 or 10lbs, probably 5. Then I'll either add deadlifts, good mornings or barbell lunges.

According to his website, he does know his stuff. You know what they say though, " the proof of the pudding is in the eating" lol. Seriously, I think he can help me.

Had a so so workout cause the order of my exercises performed were altered due to some guy using rack. Sucks that we only have one. After the guy was finished with rack and I was warming up, he asked and pointed if I wanted to use the barbell cushion. almost chewed him out, but just laughed and said no lol.

Dynamic warmup/mobility circuit x2

Snatch grip high pull

135x5x2r

kneeling pulldown

37.5x3x8r (kinda like this movement)

bit core work

Squat

135x5r
185x3r
225x1r
275x1r
315x1r

shut it down after that
