Thanks guys!

D- I work out at "The Gym" in Plymouth. It has a good atmosphere and nice bars, bumpers, platforms, etc. Pretty cheap, too.

k- After the weather we've had lately, I can't wait to get some sunshine and good southwestern air!

I was actually going to ask you if you had ever heard of The Gym. A guy I train strongman with works out there. I am thinking about picking up a membership there when I get back to the cities.

Have you ever seen a crazy ass guy in there working out named Paul? He is about 5'10" 225 lbs, glasses and totally nuts.

I'm back from New Mexico...

I got in one workout while I was down there. My friend knows a guy who played football for UNM and we all hit the gym. He was a strong dude so I had to raise my game a little since I didn't want to be embarrassed.

Other than that... too much boozin and too many ladies (if that is possible). A great time.

Wednesday 3/22 Break-in Workout

Warmup Complex

Front Squats
5x95lbs
5x135lbs
5x185lbs
5x205lbs
5x225lbs

Strict OH Press (from dead stop)
5x95lbs
5+4x115lbs
3x120lbs
3x125lbs

Deadlifts
5x135lbs
5x225lbs
5x315lbs
4x405lbs PR

Pullups
8,6

Done. This only took me 35 minutes, including warmup. Since I hadn't lifted heavy in a while I just did a Bill Starrish wednesday workout. I felt great. That is the most I've ever pulled 405, and I left a couple in the tank. Didn't feel like going to failure today. I was rushed because I was trying to squeeze in a lunch date with a hottie from work afterwards... but I still took too long. Oh well.

Monday 3/27 ME Bench

Bench Press
lots x bar
5x95lbs
5x135lbs
5x155lbs
5x185lbs
5x205lbs
3x225lbs PR

Tate Press
8x30s
8+7+6x35s

Pendlay Rows
warmup to...
5x5x203lbs

Face Pulls
20+10+15x60#

Curls
a couple sets

Done. This was my first workout without my training partner and I felt a little adrift. I didn't have a great plan going in, but I worked really hard once I got going. My "non-training" stressors have been really high lately: craziness at work and with women. I need to get my ass back in gear and start hitting the gym and eating well again. I'm supposed to train strongman with Danny soon, so I might modify the layout of my training a little.

Training with Danny? I'm jealous. However I might make it up to Chicago to watch him compete and cheer him on!

Wow, a single at 455 was a PR only a month ago, and today you did 425 for 5, that is awesome! Nice work on the Bulgarian split squats to, that is a lot of load for those. I need to remember to do some pullthroughs those are a great exercise, but I like the GHRs so well it is hard to pass on them. Do you do the pullthroughs dynamically, or under a controlled pace?

Damn dude thats a kick ass workout. Don't worry, you won't embarass yourself with numbers like that coming up. Well, as long as you don't fall or anything.

We should be good to go this weekend, I will let you know soon.

Thanks for checking in guys...

Buk- I've changed my deadlift a little after reading Starting Strength. I moved my feet out a few inches, dropped my hips a little in the starting position and keep my lats flexed. I feel like I'm a lot stronger off the floor and keeping the bar closer to my body. I was very excited to hit 5 reps with this weight. 500 will fall (rise?) this year.

As for pullthroughs... I do them explosively and I think they are great for helping the squat and dead. I don't have access to a GHR bench, and I've never really figured out a comfortable setup for natural GHRs (not to mention that they are way more taxing). Pullthoughs also seem to develop low back strength a little more than GHRs. Not knocking GHRs, just talking up pullthroughs! Do 'em!

D- I'm ready for saturday if you are coming down... and I usually find a way to embarrass myself in everything I do :p

Thursday SE Upper

Warmup Complex

DB bench press
warmup to...
5+4+4+4+2x90s I suck

Press
warmup to...
8+5+6x105lbs
suck x 2

Towel Chinups
8+6+3 blah
a few normal chins

OH Tri ext
10x220#
8+2x235# damn handle slipped so I quit

Get me out of here. Not a good effort today... I miss having a training partner on upper body days. This was supposed to be a "repetition effort" day but I'll call it "shitty effort". I did get to see a dude pull 630, which was kind of cool. Oh well... life goes on.

Saturday 4/1 Strongman with the King

To the best of my memory...

Farmer's walks (eh)
165lbs x 200ft
275lbs x 10ft
215lbs x 200ft
235lbs x 80ft

Tire Flipping
1x750lb tire
3x750lb tire

Yoke Squats
warm up to...
3 x 505lbs
3 x 685lbs

Sled Dragging (plate weight)
220lbs x 200ft
290lbs x 160ft
390lbs x 80ft
490lbs x 60ft

I also played around with some 225lb keg cleans.

Today was very fun... my first experience with strongman events. I really like picking up random heavy things and moving them around. I didn't have the technique down at all, obviously, but I was pleased with my effort. I even pulled the sled farther than Danny :p

Holy shit. You are moving some weight around. Glad I decided to check in on you. Those deadlifts are extreme.

I hope you had a fun time training. I had a blast. Seriously, you should stick with it, you could be pretty damn good.

275 lbs per hand farmers is no joke and not many guys pick that up their first go.

I will get revenge on that harness drag one day.

Great work with the strongman stuff. It is fun, espically when you have awesome training partners and a good environment - and now you are going to get hooked.

275 is a huge farmer's walk, even for just 10 feet. That is a big tire to get to play with. I keep thinking about getting one, but it probably won't be that big. Great work with the sled!
