Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Well after a lot of thought I have decided to begin the program by Chad Waterbury called Get Lean Without Dieting. The program can be fround here: http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=877549
Tomarrow (Jan 31st) I will begin the workout with Day 1. Starting next week I also will have intermural basketball 2 nights a week. I have decided on thoes days I will not be doing the program I will just do my basketball then continue the program the next day as if nothing happened. Still I will rest every 7 days.
My goals of this program include:
-Getting as Lean as I ever have (Duh)
-Increasing my total body endurance in hope of inproving my basketball game and overall athleticism.
-Eat 90% clean instead of the 60% good/40% bad like Chad outlined. basically if i go out with some friends I am not going to sit there and have a plain chicken breast and salad. But overall I will be eating clean. I plan on doing an Adam's diet like eating plan plus one more carb meal because of the amount of activity that I will be doing. Also 1 extra protein shake mid-way through the day.
Also check out gymrat's log because he has begun the workout as well. I will post how the workout goes tommarow.
Wish me luck.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
larrabee sounds like a good plan. Those that succeed are those that allow themselves the opportunity to live a little as well.
Just one thing tho if you do go out and have a less than good meal or a far too heavy drinking session dont overcompensate the next day and go under your minimum cal intake just get straight back on track as you have planned
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
WHHHOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Back from the first workout and all I got to say is I loved it. To put it into context todays workout was like the double sessions I had for the first 2 weeks of football. At the end of the last minute on the treadmill I started to feel sick. Some mind find this as a negative but for me it was a sign that i just kicked my ass harder than ever.
Here is what I did:
Rope Jumping 10 MINUTES
Barbell Hack Squat 1X5 (Rest 60 seconds)
Barbel back Squats 1X 2 Minutes (Rest 120 Seconds)
Standing Dumbell Military Press 1X5 (Rest 60 Seconds)
Standing Barbell Military Press 1X 2 Minutes (Rest 120 Seconds)
Chin-Ups 1X5 (Rest 60 Seconds)
Supinated Grip Pulldowns 1x 2 minutes (Rest 120 Seconds)
Medicine ball Squat Down Throw With Sprint 5 Minutes
walking on invert (10) for 20 minutes
All in all a great workout taking about 70 minutes (not too bad). I will let you know how I feel in a few hours but now its time to eat some food (oatmeal/whey protein).
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Just got back from day 2 of GLWOD and wow did it kick my ass again. Here is what i did:
Cycle Sprints 60/15 For 10 Minutes
Single Arm Dumbbell hang Snatch 4X25 (Rest 60 Seconds)
Medicine ball Throws 4X40 (20 With Each Leg Forward)
Backwards treadmill walking (6-8 incline)
Doesnt sound like much but workout came in at 70 minutes or so again. I dont feel sore from yesterday but I think i will tommarow morning. Its amazing what walking backwards on an incline can do to your legs. I will post some more later today when i got time. Now i must go to strength training class...(don't worry the teacher knows i workout in the morning before class so he just lets me stretch and read his fitness books)
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
I feel really tired right now about 6 hours after the second workout. Nothing I am too worried about. i am also battleing a little cold so that may be contributing to the tiredness.
Although the program is called Get Lean without Dieting I think I have to do a better job with my diet. yesterday I ate like shit. Has about a container of natural PB and alot of golean crunch. I just went too far. Again today just sat there and ate a half a thing of peanut butter.
Im done with that I know I can't be eating like that and expect any results. Chad says to eat 60/40 and I need to do something like 80/20 if i am going to be succesful with this. Again I will be sticking with Adam's Diet and his guidelines. Hopefully starting tomarrow I will have my diet back in check.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Hey Kevin. I'm glad you're liking it. that backward walking works muscles in ways you didn't even know possible. I don't know about you but after 4 days, my lats are sore. Weird. I've NEVER had sore lats before. I'm thinking it's got to do with that medicine ball workout. Keep it up!
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Ya gymrat I hear ya. Today after day 2 my shoulders are pretty sore. Thats about it though. Also my calves which never, ever get sore. Not even during b-ball season in high school. Starting day 3 in an hour or so... Need to wake up!
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
just got back from the gym. Did day 3's workout today. The waterbury walk (Sadistic Deadlifts) kicked my back's ass. Seriously it was sore. Also it was nice to do the hang cleans again. I havent done thoes in like a year. Getting a cold but got 10 and a half hours of sleep (yes thats right) last night to try to kick it but its still there. Here is what I did today:
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Hopefully the sickness passes quickly and you can keep going strong at this routine. It looks painfully fun, and I expect the results to be much better than the lame weightloss that comes with being sick. Are you keeping track of the reps you are getting in the times 2 minute sets? If you always shoot for improvement there you will astound yourself with progress, even while loosing weight.
Keep it up, I am glad to see a few people logging this workout. I will probably incorporate a few of the workouts once in a while.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
I'm curious what you've found the hardest so far Kev? I think day 1 and day 5 are the worst so far. 'Course tomorrow is day 6 so by then I'll be able to give you an idea of which day is the worst IMO.
Just an idea, but can you start listing your weights that you're using too? I just like to get an idea of how the workout went. No big deal though.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Just got back from the gym and heres what i did (with the wieghts as gymrat asked for):
Cycle Sprints 60/15 (10 Minutes)
Single Arm Dumbbell Snatch 4X25 (Rest 60 Seconds) 25 lb dumbbell
Medicine Ball Throwdowns 4X40 (20 each leg) 16lb medicine ball
Backward Treadmill Walking (6-8 incline) 10 minutes
I am feeling alittle worn down from the program but overall I am doing good. Shoulders are still sore and legs are sore as well. I will post later today when I have some more time a little more about the workout.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Right now I am heading back to the gym to play some basketball because I am just dieing to. Hopefully my body will hold up. Especially with a long workout tommarow:
Still I must say I love this program, I love getting a nice sweat going while working out. Again feel free to ask any questions if you are interested in the workout.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
This workout is awsome. Period. Seriously any who are interested really should give it a try. I just got back from doing day 5:
Day 5
Jump Rope 10 Minutes
Overhead Squats 10X5 (Rest 90 Seconds) 95 lbs
Bent Over Row 10X5 Palms Inward (Rest 60 Seconds) 145 lbs
Squat Thrusts 4X25 (Rest 90 Seconds) 2 20lb dumbbells (makes it so much harder!!!)
Substituted some basketball for the 20 minutes of incline treadmill walking.
I do feel alittle worn out still but believe it or not I am seeing results. And I havent even been eating very well. I would say I am at the 60/40 point that Chad said to follow. Seriously so far I am amazed. The workouts do take alittle longer than I am used to (sometimes 90 minutes) but its definatly worth it. I plan on sticking with the workoujt for at least 4 weeks, maybe 6 if I am still seeing results.
Another thing about this workout is that all the exersices are very functional. being that they actually contribute to an athlete's quickness and agility which I definatly love being that I am going into b-ball season now.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Decided to not do day 6 today. Instead I ran 6 intervals 45 seconds long at 11 mph, 6 mph for recovery.
Then played 1 on 1 for 35 minutes to get me ready for game 1 of intermural b-ball which is tommarow. basically monday is my day off but I will be playing 2 20 minute halfs of full court b-ball. So i guess no day off this week.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Like I stated before no workout today because I will be playing an hour of 5 on 5 tonight in my intermural b-ball league at school. I feel rested even though i havent had a true day off yet. I had made a stand with my diet going strictly adam's diet from here on out of the program. I have been over eating with the thought of not really having to eat perfectly because of the workout. I find I got to do all or nothing or I will screw it up. So I got everything I need for Adam's Diet now and tons of vegetables from the dinning commons .
Looking foward to being back on track and having this workout kick my ass. Back to day one tommarow.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
B-ball went good last night. Wasn't tired at all, legs felt great, didnt even need to come out of the game. My cardiovascualr endurance is really getting a boost from this workout. it really feels like doing 70 minutes of hard cardio, but with weightlifting included it has an extra jolt.
Today I did day 1 again:
Rope Jumping 10 MINUTES
Barbell Hack Squat 1X5 (Rest 60 seconds) 205lbs
Barbel back Squats 1X 2 Minutes (Rest 120 Seconds) 105lbs
Standing Dumbell Military Press 1X5 (Rest 60 Seconds) 55lbs X 2
Standing Barbell Military Press 1X 2 Minutes (Rest 120 Seconds)50 lbs first minute, 40 lbs second minute
Chin-Ups 1X5 (Rest 60 Seconds) Weighted +35 lbs
Supinated Grip Pulldowns 1x 2 minutes (Rest 120 Seconds) 70 lbs
Medicine ball Squat Down Throw With Sprint 5 Minutes 16 lb medicine ball
Incline treadmill (8-10 Incline grade) 20 Minutes
Felt like the workout was alittle easier, although the 2 minute squats are like someone stretching your quads till they snapped.
I plan on doing this program for a minimum of 4 weeks, maybe 6. Then looking at some mass programs like gymrat is doing. Possibly Chad's "Bodybuilding Next Fronteir":
Looks extremly interesting and really like his new look on workouts. And although I love Craig's TT programs (Being an AAP member) it is nice to switch it up completly.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Waking up this morning I am feeling really tired, same thing yesterday. I dono why, but it feels like i took nyquil the night before. Still getting in the workouts though. Doing day 2 today (in about 1 hour). wish me luck.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
Well after 4 weeks of The Waterbury Method I have made a goal of doing 4 weeks of Get Lean Without Dieting. I completed 2 weeks of the program and liked it, and was seeing results. But due to the b-ball season I had to put it off and just do a less intense program. The season is over now and my 4 weeks will begin in the morning (wednesday).
I thought it would be best to continue this log and give people a look at what 4 weeks of this program can do. In the 2 weeks I did it my cardiovascular endurance SKYROCKETED!!!! And my vertical leap increased 3 or 4 inches. This blew me away.
So after 4 weeks of The waterbury Method and puting a rediculous 50 lbs on my squat and 45 on my deallift I will be looking to cut as much as I ever have. So keep a look out for the thread I will keep you updated.
Re: Larrabee is \"Getting Lean Without Dieting\" Doing the Impossible
First day back on GLWOD and I can't say I missed it too much. This workout really kicks your ass especially with the 2 minutes of squats.... Well here is what I did:
Although tough its nice to be back on this program. Also again, if anyone is interested in the program I did a spreadsheat for it that I would gladly e-mail to anyone who wants it.
