Jim, I noted more than one person complaining on RWOL about the winds at the Martian Marathon and Half. Not only did you blow away your goal time, but you did it under some rough conditions!

I think sub-2 hours for you for a 25K is a given at this point... It's only 2.5 miles longer than a 1/2-M. If you matched your half-marathon pace, you would finish in 1:56.

I wish we had a half or a 25K around here in late Spring. We don't have enough longer distance races. Everything is 5K's it seems.

Come on up! The River Bank Run bills itself as the biggest 25K in the country. Supposed to be a great course with lots of support. After living here for 5 years it's about time I do it.

04APR06

dips
30x 18, 18, 15

squats
155x 18, 18, 15

wide grip cable rows
100x 18, 18, 18

weighted swiss ball crunches
25x 20, 20, 20

EZ curls
55x 15, 15, 12

My legs were pretty fried doing those high rep squats. Come to think of it, I was pretty wasted for this workout because I stayed up late last night studying for a test. Even so, after lifting, I went out for a short run in the wind tunnel.

3 mile run
22:58 (7:39 avg pace)

My legs were definitely dead doing this. My left calf is pretty sore. It almost feels like a cramp, but I don't think that's what it is. Stretching doesn't even seem to make it feel better.

I don't know if you're looking for another half mary to do, but South Bend, IN has the Sunburst half/full marathon around June 10. You might want to consider it...

I may be doing another local half-M either that weekend or the following. I think I could become hooked on running races. I'm looking to run a 10 mile race next weekend. Either I spend my limited fun money on beer or on entry fees. Hmmm....

6.2 mile run
47:48 (7:42 avg pace)

I really ran out of gas on this one. The first 2.5 miles were under a 7:30 pace, but then 3 days in a row plus squats kicked in. Not to mention some more wind. Miles 2.5 - 6.2 were a 7:52 average. I'm ready for my rest day tomorrow.

upper body pseudo-workout

DB bench press

85s x 5x5

BB row
175 x 5x5

weighted swiss ball crunches
35 x 5x10

military press
95x5, 105x5, 115x5, 5, 5

DB curls
40 x 5x5

I say pseudo because I didn't follow any plan, I just did some upper body stuff while I talked with hot gym chick. I'm letting my legs rest a little.

Tomorrow I plan to do a 3 mile tempo in the morning and Saturday I'm shooting for 14 miles. Crazy, this soon after that race? Maybe. But I'll try to take it a little slower- maybe a 7:40-7:45 pace.

They've got pics up from the race, but, bummer, none of me. My mom got some. I'll post them as soon as I get them.

3 mile tempo run
21:30 (7:10 avg. pace)

splits
mile1 - 7:12
mile2 - 7:12
mile3 - 7:06

Great run. It felt so good to get out there. I did it early because the slight drizzle we're getting right now is supposed to turn to snow later this afternoon. Should be nice tomorrow for my long run. I'm going to go down to the running store later today to sign up for a ten mile race on the 15th and buy a fuel belt to try out on my run tomorrow.

08APR06

14.43 miles
1:53:17 (7:51 avg. pace)

7.2 mile turnaround time:56:20 (7:49 avg pace)
return 7.2 miles: 56:57 (7:54 avg. pace)

Not a bad split. I really began to feel it at mile 12. It was great to run with water and I even tried a GU pack about halfway. Don't know how much good it did. The water definitely was great. Temps were great; rose through the thirties by the time I finished. This will probably be my longest run before May 13th when I run the 25K. I should be able to pull off a faster race pace and beat 2 hours.

Edit: This completes my first 30 mile week!

4.5 mile run
32:20 (7:11 avg pace)

splits
mile1 - 7:02
mile2 - 7:27
mile3 - 6:58
mile4 - 7:25
mile4.5 - 3:25 (6:50 pace )

What an awsome day for a run. 62 degreess, only a slight breeze. I think spring has finally sprung! Wearing only shorts and a T-shirt, I was really able to speed it up as well. I want to go back out and do it again! Damn homework!

Thanks, Dave! Today's run was just great. As for the pics- I cherry-picked the ones I thought were better.
