Sorry about the bad run on Saturday. Heat and hills will wipe you out for sure. It will get better.

17.73 mile long run
untimed (quality running time with friends in a beautiful setting)

So there I was thinking how gorgeous the scenery is in the North Woods so I casually suggested to my friends we go for a nice relaxed 17 mile untimed run. Instead we opted for a few hours of watching football and throwing back pints at one of the local pubs with a view of the lake. Who would have thunk.

About a minute off my PR which I set on this course 2 years ago. I'm pretty pleased, especially after that 21 mile debacle last week. Third in age group, 37/198 overall.
This race, those Yassos, and the fact I have not missed a long run or speedwork this cycle, gives me confidence that a 3:20-3:25 is doable in 22 days!

Nice job with the half Jim. I still can't get my arms around around a 21 mile debacle. 21 miles and still standing life is good.

Jim,
Congrats on the 1/2-M and the BLING!!!!!!
Looks like you are well-positioned for that goal marathon time. The timing on a 1/2-M race a few weeks out from a marathon is perfect for training.

Thanks, guys!!! I'm pretty excited. My legs weren't even thrashed today. I did take it off though. Time to ease into my taper.
Here are the splits from the half marathon:
27SEP08
Park2Park Half Marathon
Holland, MI
1:33:23 (7:08 avg pace)
splits and notes:
mile 1 - 6:35 (uhhh...)
mile 2 - 7:21 (ok, 6:58 avg pace for first 2 miles)
mile 3 - 7:20 (holding back some, maybe a little too much)
mile 4 - 7:14
mile 5 - 7:12
mile 6 - 7:07 (decide during this mile to pick it up)
mile 7 - 7:01
mile 8 - 7:17 (aid station, I think)
mile 9 - 7:05
mile 10 - 7:14 (dozed off, now it's time to start passing people)
mile 11 - 7:05
mile 12 - 6:59
mile 13.1 - 7:48 (7:02) (strong finish)
My pacing was pretty scattered, especially for a mostly flat course. I don't think I felt like I was really in a groove the whole day.

11 days, 1 hour, 58 minutes to go. Almost time to start obsessing about the weather and what clothes I'm going to wear!

Gregg, I'm running the Grand Rapids Marathon. I ran it in 2006 for my first marathon. I would have liked to be running a different race for the experience, but it's hard to beat the convenience of racing at home.
