I was thinking easy 4 today, maybe a couple either tommorrow or wednesday, and a slow jog or walk on Friday just to loosen up a little. What do you think?

Thanks very much Mk! I am impressed by people that can remember like that (it would come in handy for school).
I do have to be wary of the ankle and take it easy this week. It's going to be tough. The weather will be so nice out this week! It's looking decent for Saturday, too- highs near 50 with just a slight a chance of rain.

27MAR06
4 mile run
29:12 (7:18 avg. pace)
splits
mile1 - 7:28
mile2 - 7:15
mile3 - 6:56
mile4 - 7:31
I don't know why I say I'm going to take it easy on a run. I never seem to. From now on I'll just not say any thing- that way I won't be lying. Today was my first run in shorts outdoors this year and it was fantastic. I felt really good, especially for have done lunges and squats yesterday. My mile three split may be my first sub-7:00 mile in years- but it took it out of me for the last mile.
My algebra prof suggested she and I do some training together after the semester is over. (no conflict of interest, of course) It will be great to train with someone who has done someting like 12 marathons including an ultra.

Congrats on the sub-7:00 mile and the overall fast 4-mile run!
I think a couple of miles tomorrow or Wed sounds reasonable. You may want to skip that Friday jog if jog = 7:15 pace! Otherwise, give yourself a rest.

29MAR06
upper body workout
DB bench press
80s x 5
85s x 5,5,5
underhand BB row
195 x 5
175 x 5,5,5
dips
BW+50 x 5
BW+55 x 5
BW+60 x 5,5
neutral grip chins
25 x 5,5,5,5
No lower body workout today. Gotta rest the legs. Dare I say a slow jog tomorrow? My mother came into town yesterday and I've eaten out twice in the last two days. Not good. I'll have to cook something here for her tomorrow. I wonder if she'll go for plain chicken breasts and broccoli?

lol, Dave! 7:15 jog! I'm feling really good for Saturday. Not even as nervous as I've been. Maybe that will change. That 15k has really given me the confidence going into the half-M. Just as long as I'm not over- confident and stick to my conservative plan.

I just read over at RWOL that there are over 1000 registered for the half. Unreal. About 300 for the marathon. They've supposedly changed the course from the lousy one the past few years to a much better course this year. Guess that is bringing the people out. Plus the weather is going to be decent.

Ice cream. Ice cream and a lot of sleep Thursday night (and Friday if possible, but definitely Thursday). Those are the keys to success.
Good luck!

MMMMMMMMm......ice cream!
30MAR06
3 mile run
23:54 (7:58 avg pace)
As promised, a slow easy jog. I felt really good and this pace felt like I was crawling. It is amazing- a few months ago this pace would have been awesome. I feel like I'm ready. I didn't get much sleep at all last night , so I should be able to sleep great tonight. Friday night might be a different story. Today I'm getting things packed and ready to go. Tomorrow morning we'll drive across state and get our hotel. In the afternoon we'll go to the expo and I'll pick up my packet. Then it'll be time to get some dinner and off to bed early. My mother will be more than happy to watch my daughter so I can try to sleep.

Yeah, definitely get a good night's sleep tonight -- then Friday night won't matter as much if it's kind of restless. This race will be a slam dunk for you - so hopefully that will help put your mind at ease!

The night before the Indianapolis mini last May, we went out to eat at Golden Corral. I ate everything in sight, including a gigantic sundae and several cookies and brownies.
Next morning, 7-minute PR.
Clear cause-and-effect in action.

Thanks for all the well-wishes guys! I slept alright last night- had crazy running dreams. One thing I've realized- cutting back on mileage sucks. I just want to get out and run.
Weather update. Chance of rain and 10-20 mph winds with temps in the upper 30s to low 40s at the beginning of the race. Not too bad. About what I ran in last week for that 15k.
We'll be leaving in a couple hours to get to Detroit. I'm getting excited for sure. I can't believe the time has gone by so quickly. Be looking for a race report either Saturday night or Sunday morning. Hopefully it will be good news!

Cool, good luck; and don't forget to double tie your shoe laces. If I loose the pool because you have to stop to tie them I am going to be pissed off; I lost about a minute during my half(but I wasn't in near the hurry that you are). But most importantly have fun!

Again, good luck, and be sure to high-five the little kids at the aid stations!
