Bill, the pushups are part of the pullup improvement plan I'm doing right now. Because I'm also doing NROL they are probably unnecessary. However, I like doing them. They are just a nice way to wake up in the morning. We'll see how long that lasts, but it seems like a good habit to acquire.

The Armstrong program is solid; I used it during college to train for OCS. However, I would say that since you are doing other horizontal pushing during your NROL workouts, you should cut out the pushups. The gain you would get from them is not as much as you'd get from saving a bit of energy and pushing a bit harder on your bench press, IMHO.

I couldn't do that many pushups if my life depended on it!! I think several of the gurus are big on pushups and consider them an overlooked exercise with a lot of benefits. Craig Ballyntyne certainly uses them in his routines in all kinds of variations.

Ah, there it is, complete with PDF link. I ought to read more carefully. I definitely need to work on pullups so this might come in handy.
Nothing wrong with a little exercise to get you going in the morning. That's when I do my shoulder rehab routine. As a matter of fact, I've come to prefer getting up and moving a bit to just crawling out of bed and hitting the shower.

Well, I'm back from Mackinac Island. What an absolutely gorgeous place. While I didn't get to rub shoulders with many of the candidates as I had hoped, I had a blast. I saw McCain again and met the Michigan Secretary of State and AG as well as a few state senators and congressmen. I did wayyyy too much drinking, though we did take a bike ride around the island to sightsee.
There are pictures but I'll have to get them from my friend.

I think I'm going to keep up with the pushups for the duration of the program, at least. As for the foot, it feel a little better even though I was on it a lot this weekend- in dress shoes to boot. It's still tender so I won't be running for a while.

FWIW, some dude wayyyy back in MH used the Armstrong program and said that he got some serious size increases in his lats and shoulders. I never noticed that, probably because I wasn't eating for bulk, but I guess if you've neglected pullups to begin with a specialized program could really lead to muscle growth.

The bike ride around Mackinac Island rules. Hopefully, you didn't ride through any horse poop.

Thanks, Jeff. Today the foot is feeling much better. It is healing. Just way too slow.

You've been there, huh? LOL I just noticed that the sneakers I wore up there have some manure stuck in the grooves on the bottom!

Custom made shit kickers.
Nice job on the push ups. Next step could be some weighted push ups using a cute 100# female trainer type. Or would having a cute gal on your back when you are trying too get something done to much of a marriage flashback?

I don't remember her being all that cute. She was always on my back about something, though.
