I've got all kinds of excuses for my lackluster performance today. My legs are fried from deads yesterday. I way overdressed. I still haven't quite beat this cold. Killer 20 mph wind. Blah, blah, blah. Just didn't have it in me today, but I had to get out there. Shoot, they're calling for 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow, so I knew it'd be tough to get out then if I waited. Hopefully it will melt by Saturday for my 12 miler.

Yeah, yeah, yeah ..... what about the hottie??

That's normal variation in daily running. You're not supposed to be able to run every time balls-to-walls! You're supposed to be running really really really slow, and then suddenly run fast on race day. :p
Yeah, and what about the hottie? You just leave us hanging here...
I should start a new log: "The Jim Dating Experience"
LOL. Nice play on words too. Jim. Gym.

Sorry to disappoint you guys. I got caught up doing some homework and before I knew it I had only 45 minutes to get in a workout and get down to my daughter's school to pick her up. So instead of heading to the gym I decided to get in a short run. I'll have to see hot gym chick tomorrow.Anyways, this run felt great. I really put something into it. No warmup, just hit it right off the bat. Well Rush is over and I have to get my kiddo. I'll get my cooldown in the car!
No gym chick story? Don't you know we're living vicariously through you, Jim? Have a heart, buddy! :p

Sorry guys. LOL I don't know whats up. Studying and then running rather than flirting with a hottie. Ten years ago we already would have been broken up and I'd be looking for a new gym.
km- t'll just be like I'm playing hard to get. lol
This was just a great day. I wasn't going to go into the gym today, but I wanted to see hot gym chick. Well I wasn't disappointed. She showed me around her new office and the new area where she'll be teaching yoga. We're going out next week.
We didn't get any snow and the weather is supposed to be somewhat mild (mid 30's) tomorrow for my long run. Can't wait. I really carbed up this afternoon by eating a whole box of wheat thins.
On a totally unrelated note, my ex eloped. I am so glad that chapter of my life is now totally closed.
Thank for stopping by my humble training log, Mahler. My lifting is a little wayward now as I concentrate on these upcoming races, but hopefully, soon, I'll be able to take you on in a little virtual deadlifting competition, too. I always check out your log , but never say anything. It's very impressive.
BTW, I've never tried the honey version, but did see them. I have to avoid certain foods, or I'll eat the whole thing. Others are butter pecan ice cream and lime flavored tortilla chips. I got sucked into buying the wheat thins because thay were on sale. ugh..
Instead of 12 miles today, I decided to see if it was possible for me to run 13. Now I know for sure I'm able to complete a half marathon. The last 1.15 miles I felt like lasted forever. Checking my pace for that last leg- 7:34!! I'm so psyched for this race. In case you didn't know that already.
I went out trying to keep a 7:50 pace. I am pleased that I was able to pretty much keep it up. I figured that about 10 miles in I'd experience a big slowdown. But, nope. Now I begin a semi-taper. I'll run regularly throughout this week, but will only do 15k on next Sat (the race with the hottie) and the week after that I'll run Monday and Wednesday, then take a couple days off before the race on the first.
twin I seem to recall when I was using runners world training plan they advised a weeks lay off before the actual race?????
Well done on doing it tho Mr so now ya know ya can its just a case of how much ya can push yourself on the day
Good luck am rootin for ya
BFG...I'll cut down on my mileage somewhat the last week to only 4 easy on Monday and a 2 miler on Wednesday, so it'll be like doing active rest. It seems thast a taper is alot more severe and important for a full marathon just because of the huge dfference in distances.
Thanks for the rootin'!
*high five* (for the date of course ..... oh, your w/o's are cool too! )

splits
mile 1- 7:40
mile 2- 7:44
mile 3- 7:13 (some high school track guys passed me; I picked it up to try to stay with them- yeah right! )
mile 4- 7:31
I wanted to take it easy on this one, but... I did cut my regular Monday mileage from 5/5.5 to 4 miles. I'm going to skip tomorrow(running- not lifting). My right achilles and left knee are bothering me after that 13 miler. I'll do 4 again (depending how I feel) on Wednesday then rest Thursday and Friday before the 15k. I'll do something similar next week- I'll run shorter distance on Monday, maybe Tuesday and a two miler on Friday just to loosen up a little before the half.
