I'm actually pleased (and surprised) with the deads. The was for my performance on the DB presses that were supersetted with the deadlifts. I didn't make that very clear I guess. Anyways, thanks for the good words guys. I went through a little post marathon funk again, but I think it's helped to get back onto some sort of plan right away.

Thanks, Jamie.
--------------
07JUN07

scheduled: 4 mile tempo run

actual: 4.16 miles
28:15 (6:47 avg pace)

splits - 1.04 mile laps around the block
1 - 6:50 (6:34)
2 - 7:04 (6:48)
rest to stretch (5:00)
3 - 7:05 (6:49)
4 - 7:16 (6:59)
--------------
Maybe I shouldn't call this a 4 mile tempo run but 2 x 2 miles. I had to take a break halfway through because 1) my hammies were tight as hell and 2) I was dying. My legs are pretty fatigued seeing they haven't had a day off all week. It is also quite windy out today. Even with all these excuses it was still a pretty good run. Tough, but it was a tempo run and my pace was right where I would like it to be right now.

tomorrow: break-in B2 (I'll try to do the right workout this time)

Hell if I was having that many problems I would have called a cab.

08JUN07

NROL Break-in program

sets x reps x weight

Workout B2:
Straight Sets:
Deadlift – 1 x 15 x 205, 1 x 13 x 205 (failed on second set)

Superset:
Step-Up – 2 x 15(e) x 35 e.h.
DB Shoulder Press – 1 x 15 x 30 e.h., 1 x 15 x 35 e.h. (increase in second set)

Superset:
Close Grip Lat Pulldown – 2 x 15 x 110
incline reverse crunch - 1 x 10, 1 x 6 (holy crap these were tough)
----------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't have it today. I slept like crap last night and really didn't feel like going to the gym. I'm glad I did but it was a pretty uninspiring effort.

Looking good on the lifts and the runs Jim! Must feel good to be doing all that speed work after the marathon training.

09JUN07

scheduled: 8-10 miles

actual: ~10 miles trail
1:33:28 (~9:21 avg pace)
-------------------------

Beautiful. This is why I run. I wish I could bottle the feeling I had today out on the trails and give it to people when they ask me why I run.

I did let my mind wander a couple times, however. Unlike road running, I feel like I need to really concentrate on what I'm doing on the trail. I took two pretty good diggers today. The first one I kind of laughed off. It didn't hurt; I just rolled over on my right shoulder on a relatively flat part. The second hurt. I tripped over a root and caught myself by slamming into another big root. I got back today covered in dirt, blood, and God knows what else. I talked with a neighbor for a few minutes when I got home. I wonder what she was thinking. LOL

With your neighbor, did you drop a reference to "the body"?

Yeah, trail running doesn't allow for much of getting "lost in thought" .

Good to hear you're enjoying yourself. Besides the tripping, how was the terrain? Hilly, flat, switchbacks, etc?

LOL. No, we kept our converstaion a little more innocuous.

As for the trail, it's all single track with some overgrowth- it's not used too much. (Maybe I can change that this summer ) Some extra windfall to hurdle after the really high winds we had this past week. It's relatively hilly with lots of switchbacks and turns. There are also a few stream crossings but there are some makeshift bridges across them so you don't have to do any fording.

I'm going to have to call BS on this one Gregg. I've seen you gut out some tough runs in nasty conditions yourself.

Thanks, lance. I'm really glad that I went in and didn't blow it off because of the way I've eaten in the last day or so.

Oh, you know it, Jeff! (If you can really call it "speedwork". )

You're not kidding about having to concentrate on the trails! I think that makes trail running seem so much longer than the distances actually are, aside from the fact that it is actually physically slower.

Been catching up with some logs, and finally read your Indy and Bayshore reports. Great work on both of these Jim.

Especially given the issues you have had to deal with in the preceding months. I look forward to being around a bit more to keep up to date with your efforts once more

scheduled: 4 mile tempo run

actual: 3.12 miles
20:47 (6:40 avg pace)

splits - 1.04 mile laps around the block
1 - 6:56 (6:40)
2 - 7:00 (6:44)
rest to stretch (2:00)
3 - 6:50 (6:34)

I had to stop again after 2 miles. WTF? After the third I had nothing. I couldn't even have walked another mile. I don't know that I'll be able to break 21:00 in the 5k this weekend. Sub-20:00 next month is looking sketchy, too. We'll see.
