23APR07
scheduled: 5 mile recovery run w/ 6 strides
actual: 5 mile recovery/pseudo-fartleck run
41:21 (8:16 avg pace)
----------------------
My legs were pretty heavy today. I ran really slowly and threw in several not-as-slow intervals.
I have to squeeze in 10 miles before two exams tomorrow.
(Holy crap! My log just made it to 50 pages!!!)

Love the new signature man.
What is it now - 5 weeks 'til race day?

A little less. 33 days to be exact.
-----------------------------------
23APR07
scheduled: 10 miles w/vO2
actual 10.02 miles easy
1:22:45 (8:16 avg pace)
Ugh. My legs were leaden this morning. No speedwork today. Two finals, though.
tomorrow: rest and my biggie accounting final exam.

scheduled: 10 miles easy
actual 10.02 miles
1:23:42 (8:21 avg pace)

It took a lot to get out there today. I am so tired. I just can't wait for finals to be done after today. I felt really good, though I did run it very slowly- even slower than the same run on Tuesday when I felt like crap. I must've needed the day off.
Tomorrow: 5 mile recovery run and a road trip.

Thanks, rgv.
I'm back in internet contact. After my final final on Thursday I did a bit of celebrating and woke up Friday morning and hit the road to visit an old friend in Minnesota. I just needed to get away for awhile. I'm now in Milwaukee to visit family for a couple days and to see my grandfather whose health is failing fast. He's had a couple heart attacks in the past couple of weeks. I'm telling you what: When it rains, it pours. This shit with my ex, my grandfather, and a friend attempted suicide this month as well. Add to that finals and you've got a marathon training cycle in dire jeopardy of going to waste. I missed my last 20 miler this weekend. I'm going to do a mini taper this week for Indy and hopefully go into my marathon taper with a little less stress.
I hope this doesn't read like I'm trying to make excuses. Things have just been very rough lately. Luckily (or hopefully), I'll come back from this break recharged.
Here are my workouts to close out April (sorry I missed my goal team 2):
28APR07
6.9 miles in beautiful Minnetonka, Minnesota. Man, there are some RICH people in Minnetonka judging by their homes. It was quite warm for this late afternoon run. I also almost got run over by some prick in a 'vette.
30APR07
scheduled: 8 miles w/vO2
actual: 6.93 miles
51:43 (7:28 avg pace)
Pretty good run. My left leg, especially my calf, is really tight. I've got to get some rolling in. I was pretty well rested, so I'm not surprised at the pace even though I ran in the hills here outside Milwaukee.

Definitely a much needed break for you! I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather, though. You're right, it HAS been pouring for you lately.
I wouldn't worry about the missed 20-miler (saw that in the Team 2 thread). You'll get a lot out of the Indy Mini just a few weeks out. Perfect timing! You could always add a little distance to your long run the week after Indy if you really feel like you need to. You probably don't - this has been a pretty long training plan, hasn't it?

Thanks, Dave. You all have been great support.
As for the training plan, it really has been long! Hopefully all the extra miles I've run will do me some good. I'm running (not racing!) the same 25k that Dee is doing one week after Indy. That'll have to suffice as my last long run.

Well it's nice to see you again Sounds like a pretty serious heap of trouble this month. You needed the break. You've got plenty of running planned over the next few weeks. Just consider this some oddly timed taper

Jim enjoy the well deserved time off with your family. We are scheduled to have sun for the rest of the week so at least the weather will be pleasant. Hope all goes well with your grandfather. If you need to bust out and have a beer let me know.

I felt pretty good this morning but kept it at a real easy pace. I'll probably run only one more time this week before Indy.

I hope the break recharges you, Jim. You have been through a lot of shit lately, so don't worry about taking it easier on the running. See you at Indy!

Jim, hope you are able to leave your recent troubles behind and have a great race at the Indy Mini. You've put in some great training, so I'm sure you will do awesome.

Thanks, guys! I'm about to hit the road for Indy. I'm freakin' stoked! I did an easy 2 miles to shake the cobwebs out of my legs this morning. I'm ready. Except for a little bit of a headache from the couple beers I had last night with my friend Laura.
I'm really looking forward to meeting the guys down there. It's been pretty neat the past couple weeks. First I meet Dee at a race here, then I was lucky enough to meet up with Gregg for lunch while I was in Milwaukee. He's a really nice guy. Gregg, we'll definitely have to catch a Brewer's game the next time I'm out there!
Well, off to get a haircut then hit the road. Yay!
