Thanks, everyone. Definitely expect a report later today. I went and drove the course last night. It is hilly. But not as hilly as I remember. Of course,I was in a car so that is really different than running on it. There seem to be quite a few long downhill stretches that I don't remember from last year. I'm going out at a 7:00 pace and hope to stick with it. I'm leaving in a little while to get my packet and do a couple mile warm-up.

I don't feel like writing a report right now but to let anyone who cares know, I missed my goal by just a little. I ran a 1:06:06, good enough for second in my age group. Good run.

The hills were still there! lol I finished a little off my goal, but I really didn't know what to expect today. Between the hills and being the first race of the year I figured a nice evenly paced run was going to be out of the question. Here's an elevation map of the course:
After the race we went and drank wine while sitting in the hot tub. Talk about catching a quick buzz. I think we're going to celebrate a little more tonight.
I finished with 13.75 miles today. In addition to the race, I ran a 1.25 mile warmup and 3.2 miles just this afternoon after my wine fuzziness wore off.

Congrats Twins.
I haven't been checking in to JPF much the last 2 weeks, so missed that you were racing - sorry I didn't get to wish you luck.
That's a good time on any course, but on that course it's fantastic. And an almost 5 minute improvement in one year is great (about a 7% improvement!).
You're gonna blow 'em away at the Bayshore!

Nice run, buddy. Too bad I couldn't be there. I wouldn't have been there to see you finish, anyway I'm stoked for the next one!

Nice race Jim, considering the hills it looks like a pretty evenly paced run.

Dave, I set my sights on some guy that was fading at that point. When I passed him he said some crap about being sick all last week. Yeah, right! lol
Gregg- Thanks, I appreciate it. Maybe the few hills I ran last month over in your neck of the woods helped a little.

Well, you're in the speed range now where the majority of the jerks are, as far as I can tell. Most runners are really decent people, though. One guy I passed in the final two miles of the Huntsville Half in November gave me a lot of motivating and encouraging remarks. I'm usually so wiped out at that point, it's almost impossible for me to return the favor!

Good racing. And yeah, Dave's right, the 7:00 milers frequently are jerks. Get into the mid-6s, and they just become competitive.

I actually haven't really encountered jerks in local races, aside from a few who try to run you off the road near the end of a race to try to ensure their placement. I'm just going by the speed range where most of the jerks appear on the running forums. I think the mid-6'ers still have their share of jerks! LOL.

Eh, the RW guys are like so many online trash-talkers... lacking in actual self-confidence to really confront you in a real-life situation. And plus, Dave, you're larger than most of them so you could probably kick sand in their faces.

scheduled: 6 mile recovery run
actual: 6.31 miles
53:48 (8:32 avg pace)

Nice slow jog outside campus today. Beautiful weather, though a tad windy, if I had to find something to complain about. I'll take it. I heard highs in the 40s and snow for the weekend. Tomorrow: 12 miles with 7 at tempo. I'll have to do it late at night again. I have 2 exams during the afternoon/evening. I'll be studying all morning.
